It's an option but exposed underpants is needed to complete the look.

Community Server Blackout Protest: Saturday JUL 21
{sas}stalker replied to Adron's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Reserved. I'll say this though, it has nothing to do with what works or not. I couldnt care less how broken it is and I'm fully aware of its alpha status. For me this would be about the level of outright contempt that the dev team hold the hosting community because of the actions of a minority. Rather than deal with a tiny percentage of abusing admins / hosts they have tarred us all with the same brush and appear to actively support and encourage the cheats and exploiters that play this game. -
LU131 - Admin constantly kicking players

Thats not necessarily an admin kick though, you will get that from a wrong version violation or a botched install from SU -

I was more than happy to deal with Omega’s issue with him in that thread but you must understand how hard that is when the player in question starts with an overly aggressive thread title that accuses you of abuse then not only refuses to tell me who it was he killed in game but even what he is called. What possible assistance could I have given him in that instance ? On top of all that I was actually in bed at the time as well :P -

You get 8/10 for effort at trolling but 1/10 for factual content as there are several issues that you have failed to include in your lovely post; 1. The server underwent an announced server restart that Omega failed to read the chat about and his immediate thought was that he had been kicked. Note, this was proven by a 3rd party in this post - http://dayzmod.com/f...me/#entry286801 The server spams chat regarding the restart for a period of 15 mins prior but Its also worth pointing out that for a period of 5 mins prior to rebooting the server is automatically locked, this is done to prevent people getting stressed with joining a server that is about to reboot. 2. There was only 1 {SAS} member on the server at the time and he wasn’t killed. I miss wrote (as I stated in that thread) that I thought there was no body on the server at that time due to nobody being in TS at that time. How Omega killed 4 members when there was only 1 member on and that member wasn’t dead is still to this day a mystery. 3. He failed repeatedly to tell me who these members were, thus more or less proving that he had indeed killed 4 randoms during a server reboot, got kicked (along with everyone else as the session was lost) then put 2 and 2 together and got 8 and started to cry. 4. The reasons that he wouldn’t give me his in game name were, I suspect due to malicious circumstances. I’m not going to accuse him of anything but lets just say that there was only 1 kick command issued during the time he says he was kicked and it was for a BE script violation that resulted in the person in question being globally banned. Lets leave that one there shall we. The reason that, that thread was locked was because he failed to give any evidence what so ever to back up his claim and everything pointed to at best him making a genuine mistake and not noticing the server announcements or at worst malicious intent. He is not on our ban list, if he is banned its due to BE. For the record, we run the 4th most popular Dayz server in the world, our ban list contains 4 people all of which were added by me personally and none of them on the day the above shit storm was released (we have 3 for scripting a heli and 1 for a racist name and thats it). I fail to see how that can be construed as abuse. Would the server be as popular as it is if the admin team were idiots ? -

Yes but there are multiple instances of it daily. Should we send the entire log with each case? That would just amplify the issue 10 fold. If you were going to be vigilant (and indeed an arse about it) and send them every questionable instance and occurrence then you could quite easily generate 20 – 50 support tickets daily and attach a 300meg log file to each ticket. -

One of the issues is actually uploading them. Our server will generate a log file (daily) in the region of 350 - 400 meg. Times that by even a fraction of the number of servers out there and you can see the problem instantly. Its approximately 100gig of logs per 250 servers. There are 3000 servers so they could be staring down 1.2 terabytes of logs daily / 37.2 terabytes a month. Thats a lot of hard drives needed, never mind transit -

Apologies if this isn’t the case but I fear you don’t understand the magnitude of the task needed to wade through daily submitted logs. It’s not about shooting it down before it’s started, it’s about pointing out an obvious flaw in the proposed system in the same way I would if I saw someone get on a bike with no wheels. -

How is this achieved though when arguably it involves a longer drawn out process as well as more work than dealing with the odd idiot admin. Is it feasible for me (and every host) to upload hundreds of gigs of logs every day for a small dev team to deal with ? I am happy to be treated like a child so long as I am spoon fed like one. The only saving grace in all of this is that for the most part the dev team ignore most of the butt hurt player posts as much as they ignore us, the hosts. -

Well yes and no, the fact remains that there will always be servers because not everyone will take them down to prove a point. The bigger issue is that rampant exploiting and cheating does more damage to a game than a bad admin / host does. How many games have we seen fall by the wayside because of unhindered cheating? There is an inherent lack of trust between dev and admin at this time which is undoubtedly been created due to the actions of a minority of hosts/admins. As stated, the path we are on now will ultimately lead to a more damaging situation in the long run. For many people who are hosting, hosting isn’t something new, many of us have been at this for years and our communities foundations are built on intelligent admining. The solution as ever with these sorts of things is down to the community as a whole though, servers with idiot admins, what ever the game should simply be avoided. If you have a bad experience then move on, find one that you enjoy and support it by playing on it. Its not rocket science and poor ones will fall by the way side. Its been this way since hosting began. Right now, if I had my way I would pull our Dayz server and walk away from it because I feel like not only am I fighting a plethora of exploiting and cheating players but I feel like the Dev team are not only against me but are actually happy to support the very people who are causing the problems. -

The ticket system doesnt seem to be very responsive, i have just submitted my first 400meg log and report, I have a further 10 - 20 to do from the last few days but fear it may take quite some time to do so. Any chance the Dev team can start a dropbox shared folder ? -

All we need now is for the other 3000 odd server hosts to send their reports and logs in daily and hopefully the Dev team can begin the process of reviewing all of them and telling us who we should and shouldnt ban. In addition I get around 100 log entries daily from people that I dont understand. I assume Its fine to submit these as well for confirmation of what is happening ? -

Ander, under https://support.dayz...ubmitticket.php can you tell me which subject I can submit my enquiry under ? I will then submit each and every suspect person to you to evaluate and get back to me with information, bare in mind I may also need to upload serveal hundred gigs of log files so I trust you have provision in place for this. -

It's one of those live by the sword, die by the sword moments. Every one of the 3000 server admins needs to file support tickets every day on suspected players and let Anders deal with replying to 10k tickets daily. See how long it takes him, if he doesnt want sensible admins to deal with it then im sure he's more than capable of getting a responce out. In the meantime temp ban the player until you get a response. Also can we have a link to the ticket system please? -

Thinking of Hosting - Some Questions
{sas}stalker replied to eXcecution3r's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
In summary; Locking, no locking at all. Locking and looting will get you black listed. That said some servers (ours) auto lock for 5 mins prior to our automated 6hourly restart. Out of bounds clear up, nope its done at hive / db sporadically by the dev team. Admin powers. You can alter time, you can kick / ban but only for specific things. You can not kick to make way for clan members. The only other thing to bare in mind is that becoming an admin will, in the eyes of most people here place you in the social level of pond scum, you will be accused of everything from nuking your own server to creating save points for "your" loot. You will be a turd on the shoe of many butt hurt children. I think that's covered it. -

Trying to Setup a Clan Server
{sas}stalker replied to Deadly_Erik's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I would start here http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/7876-server-hosting-quick-faq/ You should also check with your data centre how much bandwidth you can use as a full Dayz server eats through the stuff like a hungry pig -
MaxPing issues - anyone else?
{sas}stalker replied to walkerbait421's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
it might be read only when the server is running. Have you tried killing the server then changing the value in the beserver.cfg file, then restarting the server ? -
Just wiped out 4 members of the SAS Clan and they locked their server after kicking me.

Go look at the link on the first page, you can see the server start times logged. They prove the 6-12-6-12 restarts. Or don't, I'm done here, I genuinely don't think you were ever on our server and just fancied a bit of drama at our expense.
