I found a fairly well-constructed barbed-wire maze in an industrial warehouse once. It created a nice kill zone for preventing entry to the upper floors/catwalks, but again - the zeds couldn't have cared less. -
Music you listen to while playing DayZ

I never listen to music while doing any "serious" gaming, and I don't understand those that do. To each his own, I guess. -
Basically how I play, only I don't go looking for people to help. If I happen upon someone in need, I'll assist in any way I can. I've helped several survivors with their zombie trains, as well as given away plenty of beans and ammo. I've even directed new players to relatively safe supply locations. Anyway, good on ya for being a force of positivity during the apocalypse.

Sounds like shenanigans to me. -
I have experienced darkness at night in the sticks when I literally could not see my hand in front of my face. It is a very real situation that is common enough that the phrase "can't see my hand in front of my face" was coined. That aside, whether or not darkness of that magnitude is conducive to enjoyable gameplay is up to the individual. I see no reason why people should not be allowed to play on a server that has brighter nights, an offset clock, or high timescale ratio.

Not for nothing, but when was the last time you cleaned the dust out of your rig? Performance degrading over time sounds like overheating.

What has happened is the moon's phase has progressed. We are currently at new moon, so it is as dark as it will get right now. A few patches ago, the moon was still visible - a little over two weeks ago, it was full, and so playing at night was easier. In a week or so, it will begin to get noticeably brighter again.

Just to show how different it is when the moon is out, here's a slightly more scientific comparison. DayZ loaded via SU, four shots taken from the same location and heading, 0000 hours - Clear sky, full moon: Clear sky, new moon: Foul weather, full moon: Foul weather, new moon: The difference is pretty startling when the sky is clear. With weather, visibility is restricted, but baseline visibility is actually better as everything silhouettes against the clouds/fog. This weekend is the new moon, so yes, it's dark at night. In a week or so, nights will start to get brighter. HDR and post-processing are two different things. Crank up the HDR with no worries.

I have spent several hundred hours in Arma 2, so I'm pretty familiar with what night looks like in-game. However - DayZ NZ server (@0015 hours), Komorova coast: vArma2, same time, date, location, weather: I can see better in DayZ.

Just for clarity, be aware that the night in DayZ is no darker than the night in vanilla Arma 2.

Currently against the license. The only way I can see it becoming payware is if BIS buys Rocket out and develops it in-house or works out some sort of licensing deal with him. I'd prefer to see Rocket keep his hands on the project, of course, and would be happy to pay for DayZ were it to come to that. -

Both maps have a 1KM grid identical to the one found in-game. The grid on your map is incorrect, a known issue with exporting EMFs. Same with buildings - I have never seen a map, in-game or out, that displayed everything.

The New Zombie Count is AWESOME

Don't mind the zed count, but they respawn far too quickly. I happened upon another loner today who was trying to clear a large farm (long barn, dairy barn, house). We teamed up and spent the next 15 minutes dropping zeds. We finally gave up and moved along, as we were using more resources than we were picking up, with no end to the zeds in sight. -
Turn post-processing off if you haven't already. The performance hit is enormous.

Multiple Bandit skins?

I don't really care for bandit skins at all. What I enjoy most about this mod is the general atmosphere of uncertainty - Should I avoid this group? Should I help that loner against that horde of zeds? The zombies are just ambient life for me - it's the humans I worry about. -
