Hello potential customers! My name is Arcadies and I am a humble store owner. I am owner and sole-proprietor of the market in Elektro. I understand that with the zombie apocalypse, certain staples of society have fallen down. But please, I emplore you, don't resort to thuggery. Recently, there have been a rash of break ins at my store, I've caught armed robbers trying to steal cans of beans and Mountain Dew off the shelves. Because of the lack of law enforcement in Elektro, I've had to take justice into my own hands and shoot these would be thieves. I've even had to shoot people breaking into my apartment across the street. I understand that people have needs, but please, lets be civil about it. If I have something in my store that you want to acquire, bring something to trade for it. I can't just be giving away beans to everyone that starts out with nothing. I have to run a business here. So, to close, don't be mad if I shoot you if you're snooping through my store or my apartment.

NW Airfield might as well be Detroit. Shoot first or they will.

Enfield does around 12400 blood in one shot depending on variables. Shotgun slug deals like 6500 in one shot. Shotgun pellet deals about 2000 per pellet, and there are 8? pellets. Thats 16000 blood at close ranges. Of the five non military primary guns (the ones you get in farm loot.) The Winchester is your entry battle rifle - Mid to long range, 15 round mags The Crossbow is your entry silent weapon The Double Barrel Shotty is your entry... shotty. The Enfield is your entry sharpshooter rifle. The CZ 550 is your entry sniper rifle. None of these weapons is "best". It all depends on your play style.

About the watches... back before things got really bad and people were scrambling to stock up on supplies, the first thing of value they were willing to part with were their watches. Now I have tons of expensive watches people traded me for things like toilet paper and bottled water.

No one has been farming anything for weeks, all I have is beans and more beans. And I don't need bullets, there seems to be ammunition for days in Chernarus. What I DO need is medical supplies... I have no idea who runs the hospital in Elektro, but I'll be damned if I'm going near that place.

Oh man, you know a guy with AR15s? That totally makes you a badass. Lets team up. Meet you in Cherno?

And yet, I survive. But you, you die. Which one of us is doing it wrong?
-
This is a survival sim. You failed to survive. Then you come to the forums to let us know how stupid you are. If this was a real survival situation, your stupid ass walked up to some random person in a car while you had full military weapons then expected them to be your new apocalypse pal. After they drove off into a town, your retarded ass starts hearing explosions and decides the smartest survival move is to run TOWARD THEM. Nice survival instinct you got there. No wonder no one wants to team up with you. Youre a casualty waiting to happen, and drag everyone around you in.

Welcome to the Super Happy Bean Friends Zombie Time Hooray! mod for ARMA II. We understand that people arent being happy bean friends with you ingame. This is a serious concern for us as it goes against the fuzzy care feeling this mod is supposed to have. If you have any names of the people being mean to you, please let us know. They will receive a stern talking to and have their cookie privledges revoked. Thank you, on behalf of the Day Z Carebear Commitee

My first impression and the conclusion
Arcadies replied to Drumbardosch's topic in New Player Discussion
This is a simulation of an apocalypse. There are no laws, no rules. Why in the fuck would you stand near a random group of armed men, who are activly scouting one of the more violent cities, and then say "AW SHUCKS GUYS, ARE YOU FRIENDLIES?" Moreso, why the fuck would you be confused why you died? You died because you're mentally slow, possibly full on retarded. In a widespread catastrophic situation, you would be dead. Your survival instincts are poor, and you would be one of the first to die. I'm sorry, but your skills in Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas have deceived you. You would not make it. Here is a hint for you. Avoid groups of armed men who are scouting a place out. They were hunting for targets, and some dumbass literally walked up to them and asked "friendly? friendly?" You made their work easy. Really really easy. What should you have done? First off, once you noticed two guys, one with binocs not looking at you, you know you've got the drop on them. You must then evaluate fight or flight. Which option means survival for you. You stated you only had two shots in your weapon and that you're a bad shot. So taking a shot would probably mean you don't kill them both and they retaliate, killing you. So you must flee. Depending on your distance from them, and the area they are watching, you may want to just dead spring away from them, away from the town. Hope and pray they don't see you before you have enough distance to where its hard to shoot you. Once you've got some distance and you look over your shoulder and they're not chasing you... then you can stop running behind cover to check to see if they are aiming at you. If they are, try and flee through cover and concealment. Here is a cardinal rule for you: Evade and Survive. You broke that rule and died for it. -
Day Z is a survival simulation, right? "Bandits" stay alive for days on end. You all stay alive for maybe an hour or two. Who is playing the game right and who is playing it wrong?

I really don't get this "pking guilt" that a lot of players talk about.
Arcadies replied to rokaraged's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because that fresh spawn has bandages and painkillers. That fresh spawn might just find a gun later and turn right around and kill you. I've led a freshie toward a safe loot area just to have him pick up a hatchet and kill me for my stuff. There was a forum post a week or so ago about a guy that tried to take a freshie under his wing, but then got killed the moment he gave the freshie a gun. Fresh spawned characters have nothing to lose and everything to gain by killing you. Seems to me that I would make a fresh spawn a priority one target. -

There is no such thing as a bandit. We're all survivors in this game. Sometimes, to survive, you have to kill other survivors. Sometimes, your best means of survival is by killing all the other survivors. I keep hearing all these complaints about bandit groups just killing people and not really playing the game right. But how can that be? It seems to me that this game is all about survival, and THEY are the ones surviving the best. Just because they're not surviving in the way YOU would like to survive, doesn't mean they're doing it wrong. They seem to be doing it very right, actually. You're the ones doing it very wrong. To sum up, do what it takes to survive. For some people, what it takes means killing anyone you see and taking what they have. For others, what it takes means forming partnerships and alliances to help one another. For me, it means supreme stealth and killing people when my zone of safety has been breached. -
I am assuming you're taking the success of the mod as making the case for a stand-alone game. This being said, you're going to have to do a lot of developing for a different game engine to escape some of the restrictions you're facing with the ARMA engine. This could mean licensing and adapting a different engine or creating your own. This will cost money. You'll have to start over with models and textures and sounds. This too will cost money. Once you get all that in order, you'll have to decide whether you want it to be mmo-ish or server based. If you go with persistent servers set up by you, this will cost recurring money. So, the answer to your questions depend on where you want to take Day Z. I say that you license a different engine and adapt it to your needs. Make regional servers controlled exclusively by you, no more player run servers. I say either go with a lower cost initial purchase and a sub fee to keep the servers running, as well as a cosmetic item or non game impacting item shop. That, or just have a sub fee and players can download the client for free as well as having the cosmetic and non game impacting item shop. You are going to have recurring costs associate with running Day Z regardless of your model. One time game purchases will not be enough to facilitate a living, evolving, always active game. If you want to escape the "just a mod for ARMA" territory, you'll have to start charging something regularly to keep everything going. Sorry for the long post.

Or.. instead of thinking all those tin cans and bottles are useless, you could pick them up...

For crying out loud give us something!

At the start, your best survival tool is your legs. Run from zombies. -
If you manage to sneak into Cherno or Elektro, you should be fine.
-
I have an honest question for all you that keep dying to zombies. Does your C key not work? Are you SURE you're fully standing and sprinting? Because The zombies can't catch me if I'm running and I can lose them easily. Its almost comedic how easy it is to lose zombies. Circle a barn, then run off. Run to the woods. Run through alleys. How exactly are zombies catching and killing you?

Killing me with kindness with Update thoughts
Arcadies replied to loydmilligan's topic in New Player Discussion
Honestly, don't give him a gun. Why would you put a dangerous weapon in the hands of someone you barely know. You should have offered to take him with you, build rapport and trust with him, then help him to find his own weapon. In this instance, the guys best survival chance is to take your stuff. And you gave him the means to do so, so he did. -
I just started yesterday, and in the course of my gameplay, I have looted tons of weapons and tools, and even fixed up a truck and drove it up and down the coast, stopping at gas stations to refuel and looting roadside towns My frustrations as a new player have nothing to do with the gameplay, and everything to do with coming to these forums, wanting to share awesome survival attempt stories and reading nothing but page after page of shitty CoD players whining to the Mod creators. I am frustrated that instead of retelling to you how I managed to get all the parts for a truck solo, and my first experience driving past a gas station, honking my horn, then wheeling around and running over all the zombies; I have to tell other new players how not to be shitty CoD players in Day Z. If you don't know the warning signs, let me tell you a few: - If you complain about not starting with a gun, you're a shitty shit eating shit CoD player. - If you complain about zombies being able to see you, you're a stupid shitty CoD shit eater. - If you complain about having to focus on surviving in a survival game, you're a shit eating shitty CoD shitbird player. This is not an FPS. This is not CoD. This is not BF3. This isn't even Arma II. This is Day Z. This is a survival game with guns in it, not a shooter game with survival in it. Want proof? You don't even start with a gun. Show me a multiplayer FPS that doesn't give you a gun for over 30 minutes... case closed. With that being said, I would like to remind you that in my first day alone, I've had several survival attempts where I've looted lots of weapons and tools, and even fixed up a truck solo and drove it for the rest of the day, looting, surviving, and driving. This was on my FIRST DAY. So how did I do it? By not coming to the forums, shitting myself like a CoD player, and posting about how impossible the game is now for new players. Instead, I manned up, and accepted that you have to play from a survival standpoint in order to do well in a survival game. If you're new, you don't have a gun. Don't fucking stroll into a pack of zombies and then cry about how they killed you. If you were fucking running, even while crouched, don't cry when the zombies see you and kill you. If you're 2 feet away from a zombie, even while prone and he's around the corner, don't fucking cry when he hears you and kills you. I know you watched videos online of how all you need to do to get a high K/D ratio at the start is just crouch run everywhere and headshot with your free Makarov. But guess what, CoD baddie, this is Day Z! There are no free guns! You can't just run everywhere! There is no KD ratio! Zombies aren't retarded like you are! Learn to ACTUALLY use stealth. Learn when to walk away when there are just too many zombies. Learn to survival tactics. Learn not to come to the forums crying like a shitty CoD player when you just can't get it through your retarded head that this isn't a shooter... this is a survival game. Maybe next time I won't be so frustrated and we can share some survival attempt stories. I'll tell you about how I had to shoot a man in the legs in the Balota Air tower because he dragged a horde of zombies to us and it was him or me, and I was down to my last shotgun shell. Maybe next time, you can tell me something besides how much you suck at this game.

Frustrations as a new player in Day Z 1.7.1.1
Arcadies replied to Arcadies's topic in New Player Discussion
I see this tired ultimatum repeated on every gaming site I go to: if you are not with us on this unique/niche/special/non-mainstream FPS then you are a mouth-breathing, CoD playing, troglodyte. There is never any middle ground or spectrum of experiences with you peole. It's always binary: either you fall in line with our special FPS or you're a CoD lover. ("lawl! insert over-sized meme to drive my point home") I count 9 instances of the word "CoD" in your opening post alone. It's a lazy and sloppy way to get your point across. Yes, we all dislike CoD to some degree. But this obsession you people have with hating it, bringing it up at every opportunity to try prove your own superiority in gaming tastes is simply obnoxious. I'm sorry, I didn't realize this struck a chord with you. Here, let me better express myself. But this isn't just any other general game site. This is the dedicated forum to the mod itself. In fact, people complaining about a survival game being about survival instead of shooting and posting about it here is THEM invading a space with their ideas and telling the mod that it should get on board with mainstream FPS games. But there IS a spectrum of experiences when it comes to zombie themed games. Day Z is just on the survival end of the spectrum. If you started dragging it toward more arcade-y action shooters, like some recent posts would have happen, you would dimish that spectrum and middle ground. You would lessen it and this mod. I count 9 instances of the word "CoD" in a lengthy post that has references to CoD and the mindset of players that play it. There was nothing lazy, nor sloppy about it. Its not like I posted a single sentence stating "FUCK COD PLAYERS! DON'T BE PUSSIES!". I elaborated on the mindset of the person I was addressing, and why its wrong to think that way, and drove home that it is an unwelcome perspective. And I'm not "bringing it up at every opportunity". I'm bringing it up On the dedicated forum for the game itself. Its not like I'm on some generic gaming site or the Call of Duty forums talking trash about how mainstream CoD is or how cool I am for playing mods. And I AM superior to people of that mindset. They fail, I succeed... I am the superior gamer. This is what prompted me to post this in the first place. Those people fail, then come to the forum and gripe about being failures. The more they do so, the more sway it gets and the more it pushes this mod toward the gameplay of less skilled games like Call of Duty. If you cannot succeed at something, improve. Don't complain until its made easier. This mod exists not to cater to the mainstream CoD players, why should we have to sit and read post after post from them on THIS MODS DEDICATED FORUM where they bash the game style because they can't participate? -
