  2. I'll start my topic by apologising if this has been addressed a ton of times, but I'm curious to see where this game is going. This is my sole opinion and does not reflect all gamers, I understand this is early alpha. What are the aims and goals of DayZ and how is it going to be developed? I'd appreciate any links to anywhere that the developers talk to the community about their plans. I love DayZ, bought standalone to support it, but I'm worried that It might succumb to other games also in development in this genre. I keep coming across a variety of concerns when seeing dev vids, playing the game, and looking at patchnotes etc. I may have made some bad assumptions with these next questions but I'd appreciate if people can shed light for me, and possibly others seeking the same information: I played Arma 2 for a ton of time before DayZ, and it's great... however it's pretty clunky and as far as I'm aware its due to the engine?would it not be better to use Arma 3's engine?With the amount of money this game/mod has generated, It wouldn't surprise me if it has sold more copies of Arma2/standalone than the original game. Will this money be used to recruit more talent and improve the game or is it going to remain as a project amongst the current dev team?Can we expect a similar combat system to Arma 3 and other upcoming games in this genre?My thoughts: It baffles me that the technology behind Arma 3 hasn't been implemented and a huge dev team assigned to the game.I think it comes down to a choice whether the devs want to keep the game for their own project or make something better at the cost of sharing development.I always see the same debate of: "why is weapon switching so clunky?" and this gets the answer "priorities man". But I fail to see how the core combat/movement system doesn't take precedence over something like blood types, food eating/drinking animations, etc. It's my opinion that the core game is more important than fancy features, zombies hitting through walls, standing still whilst punching, cant move and eat, drink or switch weapon. If it was my game I'd be stuck with this decision... do I want to make the best game possible, or do I take on this project with a smaller team and possibly enjoy the process more (kinda like mine craft, which did turn out great, but imagine how much more content it would have if more people were on board (mods kinda negate this I guess)). I also heard that combat/movement will never be changed, I hope this isn't the case as there's other games that have extremely fluid movement at the moment, and this has always been a priority for me in games especially in a PVP environment. Sorry if it's "another one of these threads", didn't really have time to search around or structure this post properly but hopefully someone can help me shed light on questions people keep asking me about the mod.

    This is exactly my concern. You just don't feel like you have as much control as other games. it could have a thousand features and I'd still not feel fully comfortable. I feel like purchasing alpha was investing in this game, and as an investor Im hoping I get a good return instead of purchasing another game in the future that tailors to this need. Someone stated we shouldn't compare it to FPS's since its a survival game, but I know atleast 2 other zombie survival games that are currently in alpha what already have fluidity of movement and shooting in them, but not the sheer size/feature list of DayZ. That being said, I love the changes so far. Theyre all welcome. It's just knowing that the game will be fluid in the future which is the biggest seller to me and my friends, and whether they want to purchase the game or not (not that they should be particularly bothered about more sales).

    I appreciate what you're saying, but surely movement and zombie attacks / shooting zombies is the core aswell. If not more-so than battery licking etc but yea either way, I just wanted to find out if they're planning to change combat in the future or not, I heard they are planning on leaving it exactly how it is. Hopefully a bad rumour.

    Found this after snooping around, there's probably everything I've questioned, I was just trying to find out about it. Can see how my post might come across as malicious though. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ I'm just worried that the current engine isn't enough to support the kind of fluidity modern day fps games deliver. To sum up my post: most recent changes: licking a battery now displays the battery's state properly but I still have to stop running to take a drink from a zombie that no-clips through the wall. xD

  9. Been playing UK 1, which i found out was a private hive server. I was wondering what kind of rules these servers have to follow since the admins were power abusing and banning anyone who questioned it. They had all the helicopters in impenetrable fortresses and had what looked like spawned in gear. Obviously you cant remove them from the hive since they have their own private hive. I was wondering if servers like this can be removed from the server list as it would deter a lot of people from playing the game and people are being falsely recruited into playing the server and becoming bait to 4 helicopters. http://arma2.swec.se/server/data/262149
  10. Im suprised the animations havent been fixed right now... they are too jerky atm. They switch between run and attack with an almost audible clunk. Best when they run 90 degrees away from you for 20m then face towards you xD. Need to make the attack animation more smoother but I guess its difficult or it'd be done already.
  11. You must not have had chance to read the initial post, underlined my questions for you. And you just asked basically the same question: But yea, all I wanted to know is if there was a way to punish admins who abuse their servers on private hives. For the sake of the argument lets say you weren't abusing. If a server was abusing, would there be any action that could be taken against it? For instance, when a server is abusing on the hive they link ban logs... so perhaps when it's off hive they have to link the same log and if you're abusing the server IP is no longer displayed on six launcher. All it would mean is players don't venture into these abusing servers. The owners could still direct connect to the servers IP. It would be a way to enforce rules on servers regardless of their association with the hive.

  14. Got back from holiday on monday night mate xD. Common bug. I was playing for a few hours... went to eat my chinese and came back and got kicked from the game. I had to go on arma 2 in steam and verify the integrity and it fixed the problem. They spawned stuff in like containers and rocks so you couldnt enter. Then when someone entered they rolled the server back, banned some people involved and said they were exploiting by vaulting in and added more rocks to the entrance. Replied to the constructive posts. And the initial thread was asking if anything can be done to these servers where the admins abuse, not "WAA REMOVE THEM NOW PLS". If the answer is no... they are allowed to down right abuse and not list themselfs as private then fine. As far as Excessions post goes "not abusing just exercising my admin powers"... you just banned me and many others and it just said "bye". Why are you being so defensive... lying and making hackusations if there is nothing rocket can do? Do you not have bases like the one in the video? Do you not rollback when you lose items? Do you not ban people who get into your base? Did you not ban us for asking about the above?

  17. What does "blacklisting" entail then? Since abusive admins usually get removed from the hive, but these guys aren't on it. Pretty sure they're hacking too, but I don't have evidence. Before they banned us for asking about the abuse we were having tons of fun, a lot of the problems in the game are avoided in private hive such as the desync and combat loggers.

  19. I've started making a camp on a server before and it's name changed, luckily I had it bookmarked in six launcher. But lately I've been losing a lot of servers me and my friends use because they change name while we're asleep. For instance last night was playing LU100, not sure if it changed name or just went down forever. Would be nice if there was a place for servers to post their new name where you could check, but maybe it's being a bit picky. :P Anyone experienced this ?
  20. Name: Nyxe ID: 4401030 Location: debug plains Problem: Logged out somewhere near/off edge of map with a friend. Logged in next day and I'm in debug plains and hes still there. Also a few of my friends are in plains too who logged out in various locations e.g. nw airfield. Looks like its something to do with something that happened last night if anything was changed, since a lot of us got the bug at the same time. One of my friends ran out but I only had one drink of water and couldn't make it back to land before i started dying. Lost M107, Ghillie suit (disappeared before i logged separate issue), coyote pack (24slot), most accessories etc.
  21. TL;DR bottom# So after mucking around with 3 of my friends who recently bought the games, we were on our way out of Starysobor. We decided to gut a cow so I took it out and proceeded to the treeline to cover my team, just as I sit down I hear multiple shots and Team member no 1# is down, 2# is hit too (6000 blood). Fight or flight comes into play. I hear an AKM in the distance and from the dmg team member 2 took I know they are a great deal away or he would be 1 hit. 10 minutes pass by as we flee away from the scene and my team mates assure me "he" has looted and fled, but being the paranoid Bast**** I am, I set up flanking position around the target. My team mate will not die in vain. I figured no Lone wolf would be dumb enough to attack 4 guys well geared especially from that distance when im sporting a m107 + guillie suit. Not to mention the other 2 guys in my team having m14's, they must have a sniper at least. We proceed far north and crawl through the tree line, all the time my team mates doubting my choices but I assure them as I see 1 guy head out the treeline to the corpse of our buddy. I notice its a guy with a DMR, so I know immediately theres most likely atleast 2 guys since I heard akm fire and wait. Soon after 2 more players emerge out of the treeline both with an AKM. Having already measured the distance to the target using milldot calculations I estimate they're 400m away, I zero in and wait for them to get away from the tree line. I decide to take the sniper first, I take the shot and the calculations were perfect, blood hit direct in center of cross-hair. The adrenaline is pumping and the second shot is fired before the first guy hit the floor, another perfect hit. By now the first guy has hit the floor and the third guy as figured out hes alone. He dashes for the tree line and I barely miss shot 3, but It's too late for him and I follow up with a 4th shot in the back. 4 shots, 3 kills. Not bad... needs work though. We lose a new guy, they lose 3 well geared players. Still I wish I spent more time spotting our escape as a more experienced team might have won the engagement. We aim at the corpses for a minute before I send out the worst geared of my troupe to retrieve loot. Job well done. Adrenaline raging and we finish off the bodies and bury them. Bandits should be sure of their kill before they open, if we had the drop on them they wouldn't have been so lucky. Pretty nice loot too, we got a DMR sniper, like 20 DMR clips which we all needed since we all have m14's, and now a DMR + m107. All in all this was the best survivors vs bandit experience I've had on DayZ. Hope you enjoyed the read I've never written my events before. The blood was definitely flowing. Forgot to set my stream going / recording otherwise I'd have a video. I'm wondering if anyone would be interested watching streams? A lot of DayZ is crawling the map looking for opportunities... But when they arise the content is unlike any other game. ################################ Escaping from starysobor a friend is shot, 3 of us run into the woods and flank around a few times before finding a good spot, They lose their patience and try loot, I take the shot... 3 kills... sick adrenaline rush. Story has more weight to it when you're attached to your character :D. On the downside my character is now a bandit... even though in my eyes they were all bandits since they killed my friend. Guess the server doesn't see things that way. Nyxe, Friendly bandit.

    Big plays and Adrenaline

    Yea, I once saw a guy like 700m away on the hill before I learnt to judge distances, and he was laid down with an anti-material sniper... shot 2 shots with my m24, hit him once and he disconnected -.-. Luckily I'm using m107 now, 1 hit kill xD. I'm glad that death is such a punishing factor in this game, it makes PvP so much better. Even if I don't really want to lose my stuff ;P. The best thing about our experience is we chose to go back, we could have cut our losses and got out of there (even disconnected). But instead we faced them, the hunters became the hunted. What a rush though, you know how bad it is when you shoot one guy... nevermind 3 in a row. If i messed up the distance calculations I wouldn't have hit the first guy and it could have been devastating for us xD.
