My suggestion would be to have some sort of identification system to allow people to easily differentiate friend from foe. Perhaps a group/team function that would allow you to add/invite members to your group or friends list who would then show a name tag when you are pointed at them? The advantage of this would be that it would only allow you to see the tags of people you actually knew and still mask the identity of others. More variation in player models would also help however, it becomes somewhat irrelevant once camo/ghillie suits are obtained so I think a friend/team list and tag option would work best. That's just my two cents though.

So I was making a run trough Cherno the other day and decided to hit up the hospital. I make my way up to the roof and I'm filling up my pack with blood bags and what not when I hear gunfire. I look down into the street and see another survivor running towards the offices across the street with some zombies chasing him. Not really wanting a shootout I message him in the server chat and say that I'm on the roof and I mean no harm...and suggest a truce. He agrees and I see him run off behind the office. A moment later I again hear gunfire and see him running backwards with another zombie chasing him. Something inside me tells me exactly what I need to do. I pull out my winchester, take aim, and fire a shot. "WTF man! You shot me and broke my leg!!" he says. I reply that it was an accident and that I was aiming for the Zombie. I tell him I will be right there to help and I have morphine. I watch as he is crawling away from the growing swarm of zombies around him. I then take aim and finish the job by pumping 2 more rounds into the survivor. "You asshole!!" he says as he dies. I proceed down to his body and proceed to loot it of a 1911, a shotgun, all ammo and an alice pack and then made sure to thank them in the server chat. I am a bad person. :(
