The reason that I never pick up the crossbow is because of the single bolt being non-stackable. I understand that it is a silent weapon and should be considered strong due to it, but I don't think most players feel that way. Two things are needed. A scope or iron sight and a quiver or stackable bolts. Stacks should be no larger than 3, as to not make it too powerful.

Uh, how is that? You are dead. You can't loot your own body because you are DEAD. Why is this not sinking in?

Congratulations... 1,000,000 Murders

Yeah.. I've killed one bandit and have been killed twice. The one that I killed was in self-defense AND after they fired first. I don't kill people. If I want to protect a loot spawn that I am scouting, I will fire a warning shot. If they do not vacate, I will fire to kill. Both bandits shot me without warning. If I've been playing for three weeks and only have 1 kill, someone else is picking up the slack in a large way. I bet I'm not the only one. If you can't admit that bandits are a problem, then something is seriously wrong with you. Sometimes you need to put limitations on things, even if it means adding an artificial system. Things will devolve into chaos, and it certainly has. -
Yeah I'm really not have any problems.. You need to adjust to the zombie aggro radius.

How is it a bad idea? Think about it. Why should you be able to loot your own dead body after you DIED. You are dead. There should be no looting of YOUR dead body. I agree with this. Your friends can pick up your gear. Bandits can take it and you can get lucky and kill them to regain lost items. But you shouldn't be able to loot yourself after you've died. If you actually think about it, it makes zero sense.

No lol.. Even if zombie AI was perfected. No. Can opener should be a tool that you need, and super common. Cool idea.

Add lootable item - Duct Tape Macarov + Duct Tape + Flashlight = flashlight mounted Macarov? Any takers?

Let's see. We already have crawlers, monkeys and sprinters currently. Some dressed in civilian clothing, police, military as well. I think we could start messing around with new types of zombies here and there. I like the beast mode zombie. Slow, maybe a slow jog. But does 2x/3x the damage of a normal Zed. The fake dead zombie was a good idea too. This would make you think twice about walking past them. Their alert radius should be very small though. Speed on sprinters should be reduced a little bit I think. Their ability to make you bleed and break your bones should be reduced with the more blood that you have. What about a :D howler zombie? A zombie that is extra vocal, which can call other zombies to aid. You would have to be careful when sneaking around these. What about simply, a walker? They are alerted to you, but do not run at you. They could be like your Night of the Living Dead style zombies. I like this type of conversation. We can add potentially more challenging zombies to that game without actually changing how they are alerted to you. It's an alpha' date=' and no one has suggested any super spitting or behemoth crashing through walls zombies. No one has suggested anything as ludicrous as a zombie with a 20 foot tongue that can pull you up buildings. If everyone said that everything was perfect, we would never progress. Alpha is the time to test things out and see if they work or not. [hr']

I won't even play in a dark server, the way that it is now. I will just switch to one that is daytime. Night vision goggles are way too rare. Flares are targets. Chemlights aren't even effective at all. Flashlights are okay, but again, another target. It's hard enough to avoid bandits as it is.
-
I also think bleeding upon every hit is a bit over the top too. But if they just went back to how it was before these patches, I wouldn't mind the bleeding. I hope this was just a sadistic test by the devs. I really do.. lol

Two days ago I would tell people to buy ARMA for this mod

You guys are hilarious. Yes it's alpha. We know. There are always elitists. Stop being one of them and use some logic for a moment. The game is way too hard right now. The ones who see it are just giving their opinion. -
After logging some significant time before and after the zombie AI was significantly altered, I have come to a few conclusions. I believe that it may be possible that the developer took the wrong route when trying to push the game away from the death match mentality and made several(obvious to me) oversights in these recent patches. One of them is the mindset that zombies were too easy. I completely disagree. Before the patch, I felt that zombie aggro was near perfect. You could get around them, but you would still have to move relatively slow. You could keep your radius distance away and be fairly safe. You could still crouch run in spots, and this is sorely needed due to bandits. I still had several encounters, running into buildings, defending myself and freaking out before the change. You can't be crawling all over the place. You, (Rocket?) are just making it easier for bandits to kill us. If you wanted to make zombies more powerful, you should have done just that. Increased their strength. Not made them almost impossible to even look at from a far distance, even while prone. Secondly. This one is huge. Why is high grade ammo spawning on the south coast? How was this not missed? This alone is allowing bandits to come south and STAY south for far longer than they should. This loot table system in the south is one of the direct reasons that geared out players can come back to kill noobs. If I'm not running from zombies(which is almost always), I'm looking at STANAG or MP5 ammo. Why is it even possible to get loot like that where new players spawn? It doesn't make any sense as far as balancing goes. We should see Macarov, Lee Enfield, Shotgun, Pellet ammo fairly plentiful, not sniper ammo. You know, things that we can actually use. Another thing. I understand that you can lose zombies inside houses. But are we really pushing this game towards forcing the players to use an exploit to a technical issue with the game? We are telling players, exploit this, because it's the only chance you have. Play our game as it wasn't actually intended in order to have any chance. Come now.. really? Right now, nearly every new player that I've come across has been friendly. The problem is that, while they like the feel of the game, they all believe it's way too hard as it is. I get that there must be a challenge. I get that zombies must be feared at least as much as players. But, I believe that there are much bigger issues than that. These AI patches have stopped a lot of people from playing. That's never a good thing. And that's ALWAYS the bottom line. I know some will disagree with me. I'm not saying spawning without a weapon is a bad thing. I personally feel that since you are a survivor, you were obviously ready for the apocalypse. So you should at least spawn with a melee weapon of some sort. That was the whole point, people were upset that they couldn't defend themselves. Now they still can't defend themselves. AI needs to revert. Ammo spawn loot tables need to be fixed. The focus should be on ideas that keep bandits and PvP'ers north, rather than making unneeded changes to the core of the game. Just my opinion. Remember that when posting. Thanks

I love how some people are so hell bent on defending this less than a day old patch that has obviously made the game significantly harder. Harder to a point where it's almost impossible to get going as a new player. Could you guys remove your heads a bit and try something other than 'learn how to sneak'. I'm at a point where I will have to prone everywhere in a city to stay somewhat safe from zombies. Good luck with that, as bandits love prone players out in the open...

Frustrations as a new player in Day Z 1.7.1.1
DAS1337 replied to Arcadies's topic in New Player Discussion
Up to the new patch, I was having fun. So there, we both have compelling arguments. Food and water should be fairly plentiful too, but it isn't. We've managed to survive, we are hiking with a backpack, then we spawn in on a character that doesn't even have food. That doesn't really make sense. All of the loot tables need major fixing. Night is way too dark and people just log off. Zombies are far too sensitive. I think there should be middle ground, where we can find pretty happy medium between before the patch and after the patch. Not having a gun is one thing, but a lot of people are having a very hard time living long enough to find anything. -
I'm not sure if it was a server problem or not, but I wanted to share this. A friend and I traveled from Kemenka to Komorovo, to Balota and finally Cherno. We found one can of pepsi on the journey. We didn't find a single can of food. I even managed to get into the Cherno supermarket and there wasn't a single can of anything, other than empty tins. This is a huge problem. If we aren't going to spawn with weapons, we should at least be able to acquire food and water. And/or we should spawn with some, so that we aren't dead in a few hours. Another problem is that we found a ton of higher tiered ammo along the way. Why are higher tiers mags in the loot tables for these cities along the coast? None of those guns spawn there. Why isn't there a crap ton of ammo for starter weapons? When we were lucky enough to happen upon a weapon, it either had no ammo, or very little. I agree that it was a little bit too easy to survive before the last patch. Though, now it's really difficult. The elitists will tell us to GTFO and learn to play. Most of them don't have a brain. Sad, but true. We should be able to find a middle ground. Right now I believe it's a bit too difficult.

Ah that's constructive.. someone wants to bring back the starter weapon and you guys insult him and tell him to GTFO. Typical sandbox game community. Elitists to the bone. I personally don't mind not having a gun to start with. Though, if that's going to be the case, some other changes need to be made. I played for a solid five hours tonight. Even had a friend with me. It seems that currently, unless you crawl, or are quite a fair distance away from a zombie, you are going to aggro them. Now, if we had a weapon or melee capabilities, I'd say we could handle ourselves against one or two. That's not the case. Our only recourse has been to run them into a house and hope to get them all inside, run out the back, and hope we can get far enough away to hide. This only works half of the time. As even if I am prone and a good distance away from a Zed and out of sight, they still see me. We run around for five hours, as I mentioned before. We visited Kamenka, Komorovo, Balota, and Cherno. We found ONE can of pepsi. Not a single can of food or animals to skin. There were ammo mags by the boat full. Most of the guns that we found, we didn't find ammo for. We found a ton of higher level ammo, but very little lee enfield, macarov, shotgun shells, pellets, etc. So ultimately, we found no food(Even nothing in a grocery store), one can of pepsi, a ton of higher grade ammo, a few weapson, but barely any ammo for those. I'm not sure if this was a server issue or what. If not, and we aren't going to get starter weapons, we need increased drop rates on food, water, starter weapons, starter ammo, hunting knives and there need to be more animals. Did I mention that we happened upon 3-4 survivors, all friendly. Of course they were friendly, most of them didn't have guns or food. Most of them running scared of zombies. It went from being able to survive for several weeks to not being able to do much of anything. I feel that we need a middle ground. If you guys don't agree, so be it. But I ask that you bring some form of intelligence to the conversation like I have. You just make yourself look like an idiot with the whole hardcore elite mentality.
