Bear Traps - Why Were These a Priority?

This is not how people are. If you believe that, there is something wrong with you. Most people will not pull the trigger first. Want to know why? You don't respawn. Simple as that. Most people in real life will try to work together to survive against a threat like crazy infected zombies. THis is a game, where you do not die for real. There are no real consequences. Yes, the reason why people kill in this game is for fun. But, it wouldn't be fun if you fired off a shot, killed a person, and then ten zombies ate your face off would it? Things would be different in real life. Apparently you just haven't really thought about it. I guess most people don't. They are just too interested in killing people and taking their goodies than to actually use their brain. I still thought my idea was good. Whiskey needed to calm the shakes that came from murdering too many people. It doesn't stop anyone from killing. It just requires them to have something more than just food and water to be efficient in the game world. You have a bottle of whiskey? There's a free murder. If you don't, after a certain amount of kills, it's going to be really hard to iron sight effectively. And, it explains all of the empty whiskey bottles laying around.

    Where's my shootin' iron?!

You should spend more time helping new players rather than insulting them. It does not make you look cool. To the OP. I would suggest playing on an altered time server, so that you can see where you are going. I've been playing for quite a while and I never play on a dark server. It's dumb. See that Rocket? That part of the game is dumb. Fix it please. Anyways, and yes Rocket, keep reading. Players should be spawned with melee weapons. Not hatchets, but something that you can defend yourselves with. As survivors, we should have had some means to survive to this point. It only makes sense and it gives new players something that they can defend themselves with. No one really wants to run around with only a melee weapon, but at least it's something. Right now, you get nothing. You don't get food either. So, basically, you need to run through buildings with back exits to slow zombies down and try to lose their line of sight around buildings. They will sometimes stop and search around. I would also suggest crouch running when you are fleeing other zombies, but there are more fairly close to you. They usually can't hit you much when you are moving because they have to stop to swing at you. Just try not to aggro other Zeds while you're trying to get away. Don't forget to bandage yourself when bleeding...

    Game needs Standalone

No it's not. I did like the EvE idea that he mentioned in one of the videos, but I don't believe that it would actually be possible. It needs a tremendously efficient engine, as well as a server structure that can support the game. The big problems right now are because of having multiple shard-like servers. Being able to relocate, log off to avoid death, alter files locally.. things like that. That's the biggest problem in my opinion. The rest of the game mechanics and such can be worked on and improved upon in updates, patches and even migrating to the Arma 3 engine. Ultimately, it will need an engine that can specialize in certain things that DayZ is trying to do though. A server structure that can help secure date and make the world more immersive and less exploitable is needed. So I do see what the OP is trying to say. MMO style game-world, not mechanics. Being able to log into a server persistent server with hundreds of other players who are online like in MMO's is ideal. Then what would DayZ become? I would surely be interested in it if it were a MMO as well.

    Use For Whiskey!

These may or may haven't been mentioned. I did a quick search and didn't see anything super obvious, but I didn't dig through too many pages of threads either. So, we are all aware of all of the empty whiskey bottles all over the place right? Well, who exactly is drinking all of them? I have a few ideas for uses of this whiskey. - Molotov style weapons - Silent grenades - Requires matches - Whiskey - Doubles as a painkiller And as I didn't want to bury my piggy backed idea in someone elses thread, here's the other idea that I had. A sort of punishment for murdering players. After a certain amount of murders, you will get the shakes after each kill. These shakes are only curable through drinking whiskey. It calms your nerves. Bandits can keep killing at will, as long as they have something to keep them calm. Bandits will have less inventory space because of this. If they kill someone and forget to stock up on whiskey, then they may have a hard time getting it on their own. As they continue to rack up kills, perhaps it will take more than one drink to satisfy your addiction. If you decide that you aren't going to drink any more, then your character will have coughing fits and get very ill for perhaps a few hours of server time. Survivors will have the choice to risk using them as weapons or destroying them. Bandits may try and kill you for a quick fix, but if you don't have any on you, they may just end up shaking for quite a while longer =) A system like this kind of makes sense. I've only killed one player in 4 weeks. If you surpass more than 3 kills a day, you should be subject to this game mechanic. I think it would do well to protect players who kill in self defense and help prevent death match style killing spree's.

    DELETED BY USER

I had this idea the other day. We should have three weapon slots instead of two. I mean, we all know that the inventory system needs a rework all together, so why not? I should be able to carry a knife, pistol, and rifle.

disable the out side of the map

Whatever it is, it should be implemented. Let's stay on the field of play please.

    Use For Whiskey!

I hate to bump my own post.. but I did post this in the middle of the night. In addition, you can just get drunk by downing a bottle as well, for no other purpose than to get wasted.
  9. DAS1337

    Please add a defib!

Clearly defibrillators only exist in L4D or L4D2. Do you have anything else useless to add? Sheesh.
  10. DAS1337

    Body Armor

It is a very good idea. It's another thing that may reduce a bandits desire to kill you. If they don't hit you in the head, you may have a chance to actually get your bearings and fire back at them. Small steps guys.
  11. DAS1337

    Please add a defib!

Epi-pens are semi-useless. If you are in so much pain that you are passing out, chances are that you are near death anyways. How often do people actually use them? I'd say that it's a good idea, and I'm sure it has been mentioned before. It should only be useable if you haven't been eaten by zombies. So if you've been killed by a bandit perhaps. Your friend may be able to save you.

    penalty to sérial killer

You know, the whiskey idea isn't a bad idea.. As you murder, you get the shakes. You need something to calm the nerves. Drinking whiskey could become a requirement for players who want to live a life of banditry. Painkillers just don't do the trick. It will eat up valuable slots in their inventory as well. Perhaps it will make SOME players think twice before pulling the trigger for no reason. If you have to submit to your habit as much as you need to eat and drink, it may be a small step in the right direction. I actually kind of like that idea. It's not really an artificial system that punishes you. It doesn't prevent you from doing anything. It just requires a bit more work to do the dirty deeds. Plus, it gives innocent survivors a chance, when they happen upon bottles of whiskey, to take them and destroy them.

    Street lamps at night

I personally think it would be a great thing to add to the game. I'll actually explain myself, unlike some of these other posters who can't actually form any sort of cohesive thought in order to back their ideas up. Electricity could be something that requires some teamwork in the form of repairing generators. It adds community and teamwork to a server. It temporarily(Even if just for one night) makes people actually want to play when it gets dark. Some players could sabotage those generators. perhaps bandits. Wouldn't it be fun to see a group of bandits sneaking with their NVG's, only to have the lights come on and blind the crap out of them? Sitting ducks for survivors, no? There are so many cool possibilities for fun scenarios involving generating electricity in cities. Just to shoot down a potentially great idea without any sort of explanation is short sighted and ignorant in my opinion. You kind of make yourself look like an ass.

    Special infected

Some jerk always throws out the L4D comment without actually discussing the topic with any amount of intelligence what-so-ever. It's really annoying. Hey, why aren't there fat or really strong zombies? Are there not fat or really strong people? Would a 260 lb football player infected do more damage than a 140 lb geeky nerd zombie? I would imagine so. That's 100% realistic.
  15. DAS1337

    Batteries

I've suggested this before. Not this exactly in regards to NVG's. I suggested in flashlights. Then being able to duct tape your flashlight to a gun. You will have to replace it's batteries. GPS should use batteries, I agree.(And should be more common).. Batteries for walkie talkies? So we can talk on side chat? Megaphones? I'm sure we can think of some other ideas.

    Radio transmiter/ Walkie Talkie

Awesome idea.. love the walkie talkie idea. Still think there should be megaphones to speak at longer distances.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Sprinters are fine.. just tone down the sprint speed. Some Zeds are so far above the player run speeds, and it's quite ridiculous. They can still be faster, but only by a slight margin. It would probably also make them look more realistic as well. Seriously, watch a zombie chase a player. They run in zig zags at super speeds. Their animations are so fast and jerky that it actually looks the opposite of real. It looks like a scooby doo cartoon or something. Lowering their speed may actually make them look somewhat real. Just a thought.
  19. Dropping the spawn rate of ammo is a good idea. If you make ammo a bit more rare, then people may be less likely to kill you instead of letting you go about your business. It doesn't have to be a drastic change, but enough of a change to test to see if it works. Something has to be done. I have met ONE friendly person who had a gun in four weeks of playing. That is a serious issue.
  20. Not a bad idea. Could make for some good fun. Stalking players around with your zombie abilities. Smart zombies =) Your zombie should have all of your gear on it. Though, I want to piggy-back your idea with one of my own. Zombies should be able to loot corpses. This would entice players to kill zombies if they suspect a player died nearby. Wouldn't it be cool to find a MP5 or something off of a zombie? My lucky day!

    Balancing PvP/Bandits + End-game Goals

People won't get too close to you. Mugging won't work. People will shoot your from a distance and loot your body when it's clear. There's no sense in risking your life by trying to sneak up on someone. If they turn around and spot you, they could kill you while you're trying to be a ninja. A bandit/humanity system of some type needs to come back. It should take three kills to get the skin. You can regain humanity over time. (1/10th per day) You can also increase it by giving medical aid to non-bandit players. It was more manageable when bandit skins were kill on sight. Or, players should highlight certain colors based on their lifetime murder count average. Green for 0-2 a day. Yellow for 2-4 a day. Orange for 4-6 a day and Red for 7+ a day. Tags should be enabled and this will give you further indication as to what kind of player they are. I get that sandbox gamers hate artificial systems. I understand the concept. But something has to be done. Otherwise it's going to remain a deathmatch pvp game with zombies in it instead of a survival zombie game with pvp in it.

    fishing pole

I really like that idea. You would still need a fire to cook the fish, but you could find a number of interesting things from the ocean or a lake/pond. Not just food.
  23. DAS1337

    Looting your own dead body

I feel like the people opposed to this are just exploiters of that system. If I die, I accept that I made a mistake or someone got the jump on me. If my friends can retrieve my gear, great. If not, I start over and play as it was intended. I don't piss all over the forums about being able to get back the gear that I lost because I was stupid. Okay.. I'm getting angry. Time to give the forums a break.
