    General Survivor/Bandit Tips for Beginners

The DayzDB map is by far the best that I've seen.
  2. Haha.. I've been laughing the entire time, reading through all of these posts. I especially like the street to english translation. And of course, his balls fell off. Hahah.. Lordy..
  3. Not spawning with a weapon doesn't make you a better player in my opinion. It makes the game more tedious. I also don't think that spawning without a weapon makes people more willing to join groups. We all know that there is a very strong chance that whoever finds the first weapon will use it to kill the others in their group. I think it's finally time to do what we all know Rocket should do, give us melee weapons at spawn. It's the happy medium and it makes sense. How does it make any sense to be a survivor in a zombie apocalypse and not have any weapon at all? You can't answer that question because it doesn't have an answer, it's just ridiculous. It makes the game significantly more difficult for new players, even if they have read the forums and watched youtube videos before playing. IBy the way, you shouldn't have to go outside of a game to figure out how to play. That's a sign of poor development. It does nothing but add frustration, not good frustration, frustration that makes you want to quit playing the game. And no, you don't want those players to 'GTFO', you want those players to play. A melee weapon is generally a survivors last choice, at least give us that. It's not impossible. It's just stupid. I think the social experiment is over. I said it when it was implemented, and so did many others. It isn't going to work. And we were right. At least they aren't super zeds anymore.

What do youy do if you see a player

And you are a major problem for this game, you do realize that correct? No, of course not.

    M1911 vs PDW

m1911 is awesome, best pistol that isn't silenced in my opinion. Takes players down fairly quickly as well.
  6. Most houses you can't enter. If you can see through the windows, you should be able to enter them though.

    LOVE IT BUT THIS SUCKS

Guns don't help you survive. Food and drink helps you survive. A gun itself cannot feed you. It doesn't help you avoid zombies. Crazy I know! You can find guns outside of the main cities and you don't always spawn close to them.

    LOVE IT BUT THIS SUCKS

I agree with you and the only time I ever go into a coastal town is at the apartments in cherno, because I rarely ever see anyone there. Plus, the hospital is right next door and you can approach from the forest. If that's not an option, I almost always head inland. I have never died from dehydration or starvation.

What do youy do if you see a player

I don't like killing for no reason.. but I was in Prig, in the barn looting some supplies and I heard zombies sprinting. Since I wasn't moving and crouching at the top level, I figured something had to be up. I looked down and a survivor came bolting in, and luckily he ran up the opposite ladders to the top. I'm not sure why he didn't turn after climbing the first level to shoot the chasers, but he went all the way up and was looking in a pile of loot. I had a moment, with his head in my crosshairs, where I thought about calling out on my mic. Then I saw his lee enfield and an alice pack. If I called out and protected him, he could just turn and shoot me. Since those guns are one shot kills, I couldn't take that risk. So I shot him, killed him and then killed the remaining zombies that he brought in. I took his gun, his pack, ammo and food, and stashed it back in my tent. I didn't want to do it, but I did it. I still feel bad about it, because he could have been friendly, but this game forces you to play out of my comfort zone if I wish to survive a bit longer. So, I did what I had to.
  10. It's not freedom of speech when you actually don't know the difference, it's just not being educated on the subject. Thank you OP for clarifying, as I didn't actually know the difference. Now I do. Instead of being an ignorant prick and trying to make up an excuse as to why I don't want to use that knowledge, I will just be thankful.
  11. Ideally, as others have said, survivors don't kill others for gear. Bandits do however. Then there are people who do it just because they think it is fun, and there are far too many of those people playing the game. I don't like to do stuff that doesn't make sense, but even I have started protecting myself by killing others players around me.. thus, becoming a sort of bandit myself. Rocket refuses to add any systems into the game that alters a players playstyle. I guess he enjoys the deathmatch arena that his game has become. And if you think about it, his unwillingness to give some sort of repercussion for mindless killing is altering my playstyle. His decision is having the opposite of the desired effect. I like to be helpful, I don't like to shoot first, I enjoy some teamwork, but the way this game is structured, I'm being forced to play in a way that I would rather not.
  12. That last bit is quite ignorant in my opinion. The reason I say that is because you shouldn't have to do research on the internet to figure out what you're supposed to do in a game. If that is the game, the developers failed. I've had two friends play since I started and they were completely lost and very frustrated until I found them and showed or told them how to get by. It's not like people are friendly in DayZ. If you buy this and start playing alone, you are screwed. Only a fool would think that DayZ is friendly to new players. Only a fool would believe that it isn't hard to get into this game. Do you not remember your first days? It's not like there is a global chat any more to ask questions. The OP has a legitimate point and the developers need to continue to consider tweaking some things in the beginning. One, is a weapon. Quite obviously, if we are survivors in this world to begin with, you'd think we would start with at least a melee weapon. Who wouldn't grab a knife, golf club, crowbar or baseball bat if they couldn't find a gun? How many of us actually know how to use a gun? That one thing alone would make new players feel like they might actually be able to handle a zombie. The starter equipment needs a re-look. Baseball bat, painkillers, bandage, can of food, can of pepsi, a watch(Who actually uses this anyways? It should be removed from the game)... that way, not only will new players see what they need, they may be able to last a little while because of the ability to defend themselves and a free can of food and drink. Among other things, the UI needs to be more intuitive, if you're going to have it at all.. which I believe you should. Tooltips when you hover over your status icons and such. This would help out new players. Seriously, how many of you out there didn't know, or still don't know what all of those icons mean on the right hand side of the screen? A lot of you. This is the kind of post people need to actually pay attention to. New players who like the game, but dislike the community and the way in which you are introduced into the game. There are vets here that recognize these issues and it only goes to show that our opinions may have some merit when new players come in who really like the game, but echo our thoughts. You can't ignore it forever. Otherwise the next clone that does a better job will take everyone away.

    I have become a monster..

I will channel my inner RIck Grimes and push away my urge to kill innocents!
  14. DAS1337

    People are horrible.

What was the point then? You wasted bullets, morphine and pissed someone off who could heal themselves and run you down for being a senseless prick? OP has a point. There are other ways. Often times you can just ask. I saved a guy yesterday who was down under 2000 blood with a transfusion. He was going to repay me with a silenced MP5. It vanishes when he dropped it on the ground. Whether or not he was lying, I think I gained a friend. He genuinely seemed thankful and we both went our separate ways. Firing warning shots to move someone away from your spawn is enough. Warning someone over MIC is enough. I get that some people don't care for that, but it truly is getting to the point where the vast majority of people don't care, and will kill you for laughs more often than not. Perma death is not enough.

    first murder

I would shoot everyone but friends in airfields... they are all there for the same reasons... to take the good stuff. To take YOUR good stuff. My first kill was in one of the castles in the center of the map. I went in with a friend. No zombies.. interesting. Looked up on the stairs and a shotgun aimed right at me, or so I thought. I did not raise my gun to signal that I was friendly. He took a shot, he missed, and now he's dead. I do not murder. It's a shame that I'm the only person I've met besides one guy I saved at sub 2000 blood today. THough I do assume that if we met out and about on even footing, he would have been a bit more aggressive.
  16. I took care of him.. He's 12000 strong and off to face the world again =)

    Any 100% New Player Tips?

I've probably looted 30 deer stands. Never once found a gun. Where are these fabled guns that people talk about? =P
  18. I'm actually right outside of zelenogorsk.. server? PM me? By the supermarket too. Can you even message people in these forums? lol Steam ID is DASdweezle I am friendly.

    another little story

And some people think this isn't a flaw in the game design. They should rename the game to Dayz Match.

    another little story

I have a similar story. It's short though. A friend and I were in Stary Sobor. We were circling around the back to the tents for some decent gear (hopefully).. There was some activity in the city, but after a while of sitting and watching, we decided to enter the camp from the east near the factory. Our backs were turned and three bandits shot us to pieces without word or warning. I do understand that this will happen. My buddy had an AK, and our packs were full of food, water and other supplies. We were clearly a good target for a bandit. I just wish they would have fired a shot over our heads and told us to leave. We would have obliged, since my friend was still fairly new and I was just showing him around. They could have kept their spawn and we would have gone elsewhere. I'm pretty sure we injured them though. I had some time to duck behind a bush and my friend did fire some shots at them. I was dipping in and out of consciousness, but even through the shakes and blurriness, I know I must have hit a few of them. Their fire became a little more sparse. Either way, we both died and I think it wasn't needed. THat exchange didn't have to happen that way.
  21. I would suicide. But you could go in Survivor HQ on these forums as give people your location. Ask for a blood transfusion. If you are too low, you will pass out regularly until you either eat enough food to regain a good chunk of your lost blood or get a transfusion. If a Zed sees you and you pass out, you are going to become their dinner. Good luck,
  22. And here is my point. Ignore the big problem and act as if everything in DayZ is perfect. Making posts like this does not make you appear smart to anyone other than the ignorant.
  23. So, you claim to not have insulted him... then insult him? Veiling your insults in big words and proper grammar does not mean it's not an insult.
  24. This is the same mentality that has made games like Darkfall and Mortal Online complete failures. This mentality ruins gaming communities on a regular basis. Try using your brain please, it's a powerful tool. Clearly a very large portion of the player base is having issue with the mindless killing. Do you even know what you're trying to say with the 'Call of Battlefield 4: Love and Rainbows' mention in your post? Or are you just trying to get a few laughs by saying something that you believe might be funny? When you actually look at it, you describe the game as it is right now. Call of Battlefield, DayZ currently has a general player mindset to kill first and don't ask questions ever. That concept is ruining the game, because instead of Rocket trying to find a solution through the trial and error of systems similar to the humility system, he's gone back and decided that a game where people never want to play with others is better. Then, your love and rainbows comment completely contradicts the first part of it. Here, you're trying to imply that the poster is a carebear for for wanting to play a multiplayer game with other players. I'm so sick of people using the carebear, CoD kiddy, noob, GTFO blah blah crap that people always use. It makes people like that look like morons. Like they have the intelligence of a five year old. It's not even funny that they don't understand that, it is just sad. Use your damn brains and discuss the topic in an intelligent manner. I personally feel that the suggestions here would not fit the game currently. There are no NPC's in DayZ other than Zeds. I can't see how having a salvation army (Or whatever you would want to call it) NPC standing in the middle of a forest would make sense. Completely invulnerable to being killed as well? It all flies in the face of what the game is about. I do think that we should, and by me, I mean the developers should take a long look at some of these suggestions and try to put some of them into practice. Test some ideas, it is Alpha after all right? If it doesn't fit the game in practice, scrap it and try something else. Doing nothing is not the solution. I have NEVER met a friendly player who actually has a gun in my entire time playing. How is that 'working as intended'? It's not even realistic at all. This is game, not wanting to introduce gamey systems to a game is an oxymoron. Be careful which gamey systems you introduce, that's fine, because they aren't all bad. I will keep throwing my idea out there about whiskey. After five murders, your character will get the shakes of guilt/madness after a murder. You will need whiskey to calm your nerves. This explains why there are so many empty whiskey bottles around the world. You can use whiskey for molotov cocktail grenades. See? Multiple uses. You can also get drunk on it too, so there's some pointless fun that you're adding to the game. It doesn't stop murderers. All it does is makes murderous types carry around whiskey in their valued inventory space in order to do it. I have not seen a system that is less intrusive and make more sense than this idea. Maybe I'm a bit biased, but I think it's a system that could at least be tested out. If it doesn't work, at least you get the molotovs and whiskey bottles to get drunk on when Rocket takes it out.
