This is a survival game What is the point if you get everything handed. Back at the time when everyone spawned with a Makarov, I could easily walk on the beach and replenish food/water/ammo from player corpses. No need to risk going into houses / being chased by zombies, etc. Your friends just need to learn a bit main aspect of the game: survive
-
Not really. Spawning without a weapon is one of the biggest incentives for teamwork early on. Almost every time i bump into players on the coast, at least one of us has already found a hatchet. This guy usually takes the role of "protector" while the rest work as zombie bait, at least until we all find hatchets, but by then we already trust each other. I think spawning AS IS is spot on, and should not be changed under any circumstance. Especially with 1.7.1.5 zombies are much easier to loose (just run into a building, wait a little, and crawl out through other entrance). If you run into a house with only 1 entrance, then you deserve to be zombie food.

Temporarily expose Server-Hoppers to prevent hopping in general
Grunf911 replied to Grunf911's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Dreganius - announcements might not be a bad idea, but I believe a visual cue on the hopper would be beneficial. Maybe not as big as I suggested originally, but a cue that would say to ALL other players that can see him, that he is a hopper. And if it resets after 10 mins or so, there is not a such a big risk for the accidental player being marked. On the funny side, i think a big honking red icon over server-hoppers would be just hillarious. It would mark an open season on them :-) My idea came from a medieval movie, where ie. a thief (guy breaking the rules) was placed in stockade, and visually exposed to other people for ridicule (and or punishment). It is my opinion that all players breaking the rules (only cheating, NOT thieving, PKing or banditing) should be exposed. -
Temporarily expose Server-Hoppers to prevent hopping in general
Grunf911 replied to Grunf911's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Binding character to the server is problematic due to several reasons: i.e. 1. Servers are often full 2. Servers are sometimes not stable / bugged 3. Playing a nighttime - should not be forced (i.e. I choose not to play during night time yet (so i do change servers, but more like 2 per day not per 10 mins, or an hour)) 4. Persistant aspect is one thing that makes this game great. Cooldown on going back to same servers is a potentially good idea. And simple enough. Another alternative is to "Soft Spawn a player" meaning, spawn his character up to 30 seconds before an actual player can take control. That way he/she is visible to others, and can be killed / attacked, and cannot do anything about it. this would also not impact players hopping servers due to legit reasons, hopefully Izzie, what happened to you should generally be an exception, and in that case, all of the players would have a bullseye over their heads, not just you ;-). But i agree with you, you should not be penalized for that -
suggestion to make player think twice about PK
Grunf911 replied to Calcey's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I do not think that PKing should be penalized actively through game mechanic. (Just for clarification, I never play bandit) I ran into excellent post regarding PvP discussion which i completely agree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp6wNItfq_g Summary is: 1. Make zombies much harder (bigger swarms, more dangerous, or something) 2. Make more items like blood bags that force collaboration (i.e. reduce helth regen from cooked meat (so you need to spam much more), making transfusion even more precious The idea is that known PKs will be less self reliant than they are today. Survivors, even bandits will be in teams which is ok, but PKers that tend to be lone wolves will have much harder time surviving on their own. The bottom line is, if the environment aspect (zombies, weather, dangerous wildlife) is even more unforgiving, the sheer risk of dying would make people group up more for extra protection. -
Temporarily expose Server-Hoppers to prevent hopping in general
Grunf911 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I believe Server-hopping happens for several reasons, some of them could be considered legit: Legit reasons: - accidental login to wrong server - realizing it's night time - if you log out indoors realizing that some douchebag has fenced it, so you cannot get out - bugged spawn/server - server restart / high ping disconnect Cheating reasons: - loot farming - flank a player in main server and kill him/her But if you analyse it more closely, there is a very simple difference between the two. For most of the legit reasons there will be 1 server hop tops, and I believe in order to make things as simple as possible, the ideal way to solve this would be: - When player is logging in do: 1. Check number of logins within last 10 mins 2. If >= 2 paint a big red honking bullseye icon over him for the next 10 mins. And I am talking huge, i.e. size of a Huey or something. I know it does not sound realistic, but frankly, neither does Server-Hopping. And if you just consider it for a sec. PROs: 1. Players that accidentally spawned on wrong server, or chose another, still get 1 respawn, with no consequence. 2. Players that loot farm, risk exposing their location in a very public way for quite a long time (and especially more so in high value loot areas). That would give bandits an incentive knowing there is a server-hopper nearby with possibly good loot, making bandits useful and very effective cleanup mechanism. 3. Players that try to flank and kill player by server hopping become an even bigger target, not just for player that they are trying to flank, but for everyone. CONs: 1. Players that respawn more than 2 times in non-loot area, will be exposed, however if the are is not that attractive, they do not risk much, as the map is quite huge. I am not sure if this would be the best fix, but it would be a temporary one that would allow some existing game mechanics to solve the problem: 1. Server-Hoppers risking much when hopping 2. Bandits giving normal survivors a slight break (due to hunting server hoppers, since they know there is better loot to be found) 3. No survivors would want to be near server-hopper This is just my 2 cents. I am very interested to hear comments on this approach.... -
DayZ Maintenance ~ Should be functional again
Grunf911 replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Well, I saw once a tactic to give DoS attackers a taste of their own medicine. It works especially well if you use a network of servers, like DayZ has. I believe it was called "An eye for an eye". I am not sure if it is legal, though, so I am not suggesting to use it, just for the sake of discussion. Just imagine if the central server getting hammered from some hacker's IP address. Now imagine that server relaying that IP address to its own network of servers, which start hammering that IP address back. So, basically counter DoS with DDoS. However, the problem is that in the case of DDoS, the machines used for it are most often of some unaware users who have ended up going to visit a wrong page, and are not even aware of what is going on. So combating DDoS is a whole different animal. I do not believe i have seen useful countermeasure against it.. -
A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [4/7] In the morning, as I was still laying down, I thought I heard something nearby. I could hear the leaves shuffle on the ground, and the sound of bushes as something was passing by. It is remarkable how when facing life-threatening situations your senses sharpen. I grab hold of my rifle, and slowly looked down the sight. It was a rabbit. A loud bang coming from my rifle echoed through the misty morning, heralding my dinner. I gutted the animal, took the meat and moved slowly towards the village I saw yesterday. The name of the village was Dolina (a valley in English), a well suited name for such a small picturesque village laying in the midst of misty valley. I have noticed a big barn, and a restaurant that I wanted to check out. I really needed a map. As I came to the village the silence was deafening. It was quiet. Too quiet. I checked out the barn, found a couple of bandages, a hatchet, and some spare car parts. Not much, but the bandages will come in handy. I took the hatchet as well, you never know... As I was approaching restaurant I saw a dead zed. The alarm bell in my head started to go off. Someone was here before. Is he still here ? I snook into the restaurant, took a box of matches from the floor, together with one can of coke. I could swear I heard footsteps on the top floor. One thing for sure, I will not stick long enough to find out. I went round the corner and ran as fast as my feet would carry me north towards the closest tree line. I never found out if there was someone in the village or not. Then again, I guess there are some things you just don't want to know. I spent better part of the day following the road northwards. At some point, I figured it might be a good idea to climb to a high ground and get my bearings. The climb was slow, but the view was well worth it. From the summit I could clearly see the outline of Dolina where I came from, as well as one other village towards the north. I chopped a bit of wood, and made a campfire in an abandoned factory nearby. I cooked the rabbit I killed this morning, and treated myself to a nice juicy steak. Life was good again. I put out the campfire shortly thereafter as I did not want it to glow in the night giving up my location. I have decided to hit the sack early, as tomorrow I will try to get that map. The next morning I have descended the mountain, and into the village of Polana. I gave it a quick recon before entering. It was a decent sized town, with a supermarket in the centre. Bingo. That is what I should hit. This town was swarming with zeds, but over the time I have somehow learned on how to deal with them. I was unsure if I was glad or not to see them. At least I knew that they will be my eyes and ears while I sneak through the supermarket. After an hour or so of sneaking around I have managed to gain access to the supermarket. Great success !!! The supermarket was loaded with goods. I found my map, finally, together with a pair of binoculars, a M1911 gun, and 5 clips. I had one of those in the army, and I knew what damage it can dish out. Time to leave my Makarov behind. In the back of the supermarket, I hit a jackpot: a czech backpack, and lots of food and drinks. It was like Christmas has come. I was so busy stocking up that I did not notice a zed creeping up from behind me. A sharp thud followed by a growl brought me quickly back to reality. I took out my M1911 and fired a round in him. He was gone, but his buddies were not... A couple of minutes and a dozen of corpses later I was back at the beginning. Zeds chasing me out of town, through some dirt road, and up the hill. I took them out one by one eventually, but some of them managed to hit me. No bites though. I could not believe my luck. I patched up, and ate a couple of beans, to recover my strength. As I looked towards the valley below, I saw a gust of black smoke coming from just outside of the Polana. Could it be a campfire ? No way, the smoke was far too thick. I took out my binoculars, and I could not believe my eyes. A helicopter crash site... I ran over to investigate, but the zeds have beaten me to the punch. I could not save the crew. They were already undead. I dispatched them with several shots from my Winchester, and checked the helicopter for some supplies. I found a frag grenade, a smoke grenade, and some camouflage clothing. I quickly ran off, knowing that if I saw that smoke, so could someone else. Given the fact I was short on medical supplies, I have decided to go for the city of Berezino, and get some from the local hospital. Now that was a mistake, and the one that would cost me.... A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [5/7] I knew that cities were teeming with hordes of zeds, as well as survivors desperately trying to scavenge for food, ammo, and medical supplies. Berezino was no exception. I managed to sneak passed the zeds to the hospital but the door was closed. The only way in was through the glass doors. Screw it, I figured, I did not come all the way here for nothing. I shot the door, breaking the glass, and inviting every bloody zed in a nearby radius to join the party. They were coming in endless waves. I do not remember ever seeing so many zeds. It was like the whole town was coming for dinner, and I was the main course. I decided to make them work for their meal, and sure as hell I did. I can not remember how many of them came, all I remember that I have expended all of my ammo, both for the rifle and gun alike. I was out. I needed to come up with something fast. I threw a smoke grenade to lure them away from me, and made a sprint for a nearby supermarket. Thankfully, this one was loaded with ammo for my rifle. Just what I needed. I also swapped my M1911 for a revolver with 4 clips and taken out the remaining zeds as they came after me. I was safe...or at least I thought so. As I scavenged through the supermarket, finding an ALICE backpack, and filling it with ammo, food and other supplies, I turned my back on the supermarket entrance. Big mistake. One would think I have learned my lesson last time. Evidently, I did not. Several shots and a sharp pain in my leg reminded me of my stupidity. I knew that sound all too well. I fought against it in the 'corps. It was an AK74... Instinctively, I dropped to the ground, and with almost cat-like reflexes turned around while doing so. I saw a guy in a cap holding an AK74 firing directly at me. Bastard. I rolled to my left and fired a couple of rounds from my trusted Winchester, hitting him in the chest. Next couple of seconds seemed to last an eternity... The world was starting to go black, my vision was blurring. I knew I hit him, but I did not think he was dead. I gathered my strength and lobbed my frag grenade towards the supermarket entrance. I heard a deafening explosion, and then all went dark. A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [6/7] I regained my consciousness shortly thereafter. While still bleeding badly, I somehow managed to bandage myself. My vision was blurred to the point I could only recognize outlines, and I could hear my heart pounding. I was so weak that I was constantly drifting in and out of consciousness. I used brief moments of sanity to try as recover as much as I could. Fortunately, I had an ample supply of food and drinks in my backpack, and there were still some cans left on the supermarket floor. I still had no knowledge what happened to my attacker. I tried calling for help, but there was no answer. The fate has a twisted sense of humor it seems. I was lying, leg broken in the puddle of my own blood, with 2 blood bags in my backpack ready for transfusion, and noone near to administer it. The canned beans from my backpack gave me a little strength, enough to stop falling unconscious. The world was still a big blur and my heart was pounding like crazy. I was better, but still very far from OK. It seemed like I will be staying here for a while... The night was falling, I could tell by the big white blob, which I believed to be store window was going more and more grey, and towards pitch black. I decided to use little remaining daylight to scour the store for some supplies. I managed to find some extra bandages, and painkillers, so I put them to good use. No morphine though. Damn. I knew I could not get out of the store without one. I knew I could survive on in-store supplies for a couple of days, but then what ? I need to think about my next move. Ah, well time to go to sleep. I'll contemplate my plan tomorrow... A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [7/7] The next morning I have crawled to the supermarket entrance. It was the same entrance at which I have thrown a frag grenade yesterday. I wanted to scout the area a bit. The first thing I have noticed was a body of another survivor lying prone in a puddle of blood, hand still clinching to the AK74. I guess I got my answer. This clearly was the guy that attacked me. Idiot. He might as well have asked me if I was friendly instead of shooting me outright. I had more than enough supplies and would not mind sharing them. He had it coming. We, all do. It's just a matter of time.... The good news was that he had some morphine on him, so I used it to fix my broken leg. It will be a while before I will be able to run, but at least I will not be confined to this supermarket. Its appealing location is bound to attract more survivors or bandits alike. I decided it was time for me to go. On the way here I have noticed a small restaurant just a block away. I will try to make it to the restaurant, grab some food and drinks and stay overnight. Small steps. I got out of the supermarket and started making my way towards the restaurant. The sun was still high in the sky, and the occasional bird song heard here and there was interrupted by moaning of nearby zed. In the distance I saw a horde of zeds chasing some guy down the road. Eventually he stumbled on a road block, and the zeds were quickly over him. Poor bastard never stood a chance. For a brief moment I considered helping him, but I was not in a condition to fight. Besides, who would guarantee he wouldn't shoot me and take my stuff. Evidently, recent events have really taken a toll on me. I found it hard to trust people. I entered the restaurant and went to the second floor. Saw a guy with a shotgun pointed at me. I tried to ask him if he was friendly, but his shotgun fired interrupting our conversation. My number was up....

This is a true story based on a lifetime of my DayZ Character "Grunf". I have written it in severn parts (posts). I apologize upfront for spamming, and please note that this is my first attempt of posting a story :-). All feedback welcome though. So, here goes.... A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [1/7] I woke up washed up on a beach, with no recollections of how I got there. Last thing I remember was talking to my friend Tim that we will go for a hike in the wilderness. I remember packing my coyote backpack and going out...or at least I think I do. I looked around and noticed a lighthouse. I knew that lighthouse. It was the lighthouse just south of Solnichny where I used to play around when I was a kid. It was a quiet, warm summer afternoon. I figured I should go to the lighthouse and say hi to John, the lighthouse guy who was working there. I haven't seen him in ages. Maybe he knew what happened... I came in, but the place was empty. The only thing I found was a can of beans, so I took it. I knew John would not mind. Besides, I was starving. I waited around the lighthouse for John roughly 2 hours, but he never came. Since the darkness was creeping in slowly, I have decided to take a coastline stroll towards Solnichny, and visit Tim. After all, we were supposed to meet up today... or was it today... My head was still a mess... The moonlight illuminated my path as I followed the coastline towards the docks of Solnichny, when I noticed a glowing red light. It looked liked a flare. I haven't seen one of these since my days in the 'corps. I ran towards it when I heard a gunshot. HALT ! Who goes there, said the voice on the other end. Drop your weapon and don't move. I'm Grunf, I yelled, and I am unarmed. The flare now illuminated an outline of a man with a cap holding a gun. Are you also a survivor ?...he asked. I explained to him that woke up on a beach and that I remember nothing. I told him that I was on my way to Tim's place when I saw his flare. He sat me down, and started talking... As he spoke about a viral outbreak near Chernov, my memory started coming back to me. Flashes mostly. I remembered driving this morning towards Solnichny to meet up with Tim, when hearing news of an some viral outbreak outbreak on my radio. I also remembered nearly running over a person standing in the middle of the road, and hitting a tree. So that was it... a car accident. Yes, I got out of a car, my head still banging and ran to the lighthouse to call for 911, but I must have passed out before i got there. My thoughts were interrupted by Pete, a guy who nearly shot me. "I cannot believe that everyone is dead", he said. The guy you nearly ran over must have been a zed. What is a zed ?, I asked. "A zombie, a victim of the outbreak. If you are infected, you die, but you do not stay dead." I do not understand, i said. "The virus keeps you a walking corpse, hungry for human flesh. And the moment you are bitten, you have roughly 15 minutes before it turns you. That is why it spread so fast. Nobody knew it was coming." So how did you survive, I asked. "I am a cop, you notice when something is off. Besides, I heard screams, and when I ran out of my house, it was a mayhem outside. People biting other people. It was terrible. I shot one of them, but he just kept coming. It took a bullet to the head to finally stop him. I managed to grab a couple of cokes, beans, from the store, and an extra mag for my gun and a couple of flares before all hell broke loose. I have been running ever since. You are the first survivor I met, Pete concluded his story. After a short break, we decided to team up and check the docks nearby. We were looking for some supplies, and were hoping that the place would be abandoned overnight. Turns out, it was a bad idea. The place was teeming with zeds, moaning and snarling, as we were sneaking trying to find our way inside. They did not notice us. In the guardhouse, I managed to find an abandoned Makarov gun, two mags, some chemlights, and a couple of bandages. We continued crawling past zeds towards the main warehouse, when all of a sudden we heard a blood chilling scream... To my horror I realized that the corpse lying right in front of me was a crawling zed with an apetite. He hit me and I started to bleed like a gutted pig. We got up and ran in the main warehouse so I could bandage myself to stop the bleeding. It was pitch black. Pete lit up another flare, so I could tend to my wound. I was loosing blood fast. I do not know whether it was the screams of that zed, or our flare, but a horde of zombies started coming through the doors. I barely managed to stop the bleeding, when I saw another zed heading straight for me. I took my Makarov, and emptied a clip in his chest. "Save your ammo, aim for their heads", yelled Pete, who had his hands full guarding the front door against a stream of zombies. After several minutes the screams have stopped. We fought them off... A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [2/7] The warehouse turned to be a big disappointment. Apart from a couple cans of coke from a vending machine, and some spare car tires, there was nothing of use there. "I am on my last four bullets", said Pete. What's your status ? I had 2 bullets in a mag, and 1 in a chamber. What shall we do now ?, i asked. "We cannot stay here", Pete said. "The gunshots will surely attract more zeds, or potential bandits". Bandits ? What do you mean by bandits ?. "Desperate times call for desperate measures", he said. Why else do you think I was so cautious when I met you ? Before my radio went out, I have heard reports of survivors killing each other, and stealing their food. Apparently, it's easier to prey on unaware survivors than zombies. This is survival in a nutshell. Survival of the fittest. We have to move now..." His arguments were sound, so we carefully sneaked out of the warehouse and continued north along the coastline. I was still queasy from my blood loss, but we needed to press on. Then we heard another shriek. Zed was onto us again, so we ran. My eyes started to blur. I knew I would not hold out much longer. "Go on", said Pete. There seems to be only one, I will deal with him, you run onwards. That was the last time I saw him... I heard a distant gunshot, just before I passed out of exhaustion and blood loss. I hope Pete managed to shoot the zombie and escape. I'd like to think so. The next morning I woke up on a beach again with that strange deja-vu feeling. It was yesterday all over again. I just felt like taking part in the crappy fifties movie that repeated itself. Everything was black and white, and on occasions my vision went blurry. I needed to eat something ASAP. Fortunately, I stumbled upon a corpse of another survivor. Thankfully, it was not Pete. He appeared to be well stocked. I ate 2 cans of beans, and took pasta and a can of sardines in my backpack. It is bizarre how such mundane items became such valuable commodity so quickly. I also took three more Makarov mags, some flares, and a box of painkillers. I felt alive again. Time to check if Tim was OK, his house was not that far now. And besides, I could really use some coffe to shake me up. I tried to stay away from the town, to minimize the chance of running into zeds. His house was on the western exit, little more isolated than the rest, so I was hopeful that the infection has not reached it. I was wrong. I have quickly recognized Tim walking among six or so other zombies in the area. Poor guy, he really did not deserve to go like this. I went into his house, despite the moral dilemma that was plaguing me. I was looting my friends house, yet he would not be using his stuff anytime soon. Pete's words were ringing in my head constantly: "Desperate times call for desperate measures. Survival of the fittest". Fuck. A week in life of post-apocalyptic Chernarus [3/7] Tim's house proved to be a treasure trove. In his house he had a couple of canteens of water, some food, some morphine, a compass, and a hunting knife. It was clearly obvious he was packing for our hike when the zeds got him. I have barred the doors and windows, and decided to call it a night. After sleeping two nights passed out on the beach, the prospect of sleeping in a real bed was too good to resist. I was awoken by a hissing of a nearby passing zed. It sounded like a dog growling against an unwanted visitor. Great, I thought. Yet another day in paradise. I gathered my stuff as silently as I could, and decided to head inlands. I figured my best bet of staying alive was avoiding towns all-together, and hunt my own food. I knew Tim kept his Winchester in the barn, and I was hoping I will still find it there. Success. I took the rifle, as well as four packs of shells, as much as I could carry. Now, if only I had a map, I would be set. When I was exiting his barn, I stumbled on Tim, or what was left of him. His face was completely twisted, with blood dripping from the mouth, dull look in his eyes, and his white teeth aiming for my neck. That image will haunt me for the rest of my life. My survival instinct took over, and I shot him in the face...with his own gun. Damn. Talk about irony of life. You give your best friend food, shelter, everything he needs to survive in this fucked up world, and what do you get ? You get shot in the face by your own friend with your own rifle. But what could I have done ? It was him or me. I did not have the time to think much about it as the shot has attracted three more zeds. I dealt with them quickly, and ran west towards the woods. Half way through I turned around. Good, I was not followed. I was safe. For now.... I have decided to follow the road, but stick to the forest, to avoid detection. I filled my canteen in a small pond along the way. I was still feeling little weak from acute blood loss, but much better now. The color has returned to the world, and I felt I was going to make it. A damn good feeling. I had no idea where I was going though. But it could not be much more worse than the stuff I have already seen. Or could it ? I walked a better part of the day following the road, when I saw a nearby village. It was already getting dark, so I have decided to stick to the woods, and investigate the village come the morning. I was not suited to go night ops. Last time it ended badly, and I still had some supplies. I figured I'd rather not push my luck.

Confess your sins here - The worst thing you've d
Grunf911 replied to Maedis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have been playing for quite a while now, getting shot every time I try to type "friendly" in chat. The worst case was just after 1.7.1, and I lost my Guillie, Camo clothing, AKM, M1911, and tons of gear (in my Alice backpack). I logged on from the day before in supermarket in Berezino, just in front of guys rifle. Needless to say, before i typed Fr... in chat, I was shot in the face. So two days ago, after 30 mins of roaming I stopped on 2nd floor of barn just north of Prigordky. I was quite angry as due to some server glitches I could not pick up double barrel shotgun, so I just logged off. Finally, yesterday morning seconds after I spawned I saw a survivor in prone position just in front of me (on 2nd floor of a barn, just north of Prigordky). Remembering what happened to me last time I emptied my Lee Entfield clip in his face, killing him instantly. He had M1014 and M1911 on him with full tool set, as well as some food and water. Sorry bro, but I did not want to risk getting killed....again. 2 Minutes later, still in shock and under adrenaline, I logged off for the day. My first murder. Thanks for the gear though... :-) -
Date/Time: 2012/06/23 11:35 CET What happened: Many faults regarding looting (Gear). See at bottom for detailed description. - BUG 1#: Could not pick up item on floor (CZ & ammo) - BUG 2#: When picking up shotgun (mouse wheel action) ammo disappeared - BUG 3#: Could not pick up ammo on floor (2rnd shotgun shells) - BUG 4#: Dropping all weapons when picking up a tool belt item Where you were: Prigordky What you were doing: Scavenging for weapons *Current installed version: 1.7.1.5 *Server(s) you were on: DE 73, although saw it on all servers, but not with 100% repetition *Your system specs: Core i7, 16G ram, Win 7 64bit, ATI 5570 *Timeline of events before/after error: I spawned near Cap Golova, ran to Prigordky, In first barn found a hatchet, put it in my hands, then moments later found CZ, put hatchet on tool belt, BUG 1#: tried to take CZ (using GEAR menu), pressed right arrow to get it in inventory, nothing happened, did not pick it up (despite the item was on floor, and it showed up in my gear panel on floor) BUG 2#: Then i went to other part of building, saw 2 barrel shotgun, with 2 round sets. I picked up gun, using mouse wheel, but the ammo was not picked up (and it disappeared after gun pickup). I triple checked all of my inventory, ammo was not in. BUG 3#: Then i entered barn (the building with 2x 2 ladders, and haystack, climbed up 1st ladder, saw 2rnd shotgun shells on ground, came over it, pressed G (for gear), saw it in the menu, pressed right arrow (on gui, not keyboard char) to loot it, again nothing happened. I could not get rounds ONE NOTE: I did not see this behavior when i did not have hatchet (so it might be that tool belt/hand switching mechanism, budged out something) I am suspecting this due to BUG 4#, please read BUG 4#: I have noticed that when i pick up tool belt item, i.e. watch, knife, compass, whatever, I DROP all weapons that i carry and their ammo. Rifle AND Pistol. It is as if i picked up another weapon. The only joint thing i think between tool belt and weapons is the hatchet mechanic, at least i assume. I hope my feedback will help iron out bugs with looting

Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
Grunf911 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Today I tried crouch walk on grass (no run), and I see a zed from approx 150 meters running towards me. Nowadays, most of the time i just no longer care for sneaking, I just sprint through the towns, playing chase with zombies. I know i can loose them in the buildings. This has taken away the tension (will i be spotted or not) The too sensitive vision/hearing has broken the sneaking mechanic. But i think the problem is in the noise level that run/walk/crouch makes. I love the no weapon part of the update. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
Grunf911 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yes, aggro ditching mechanic is a bit strange. I have noticed that when i run into building, zeds nowadays do not follow inside, so I cannot dispose of them easily. This would not be a problem, if they did not wait just outside. Maybe it's due that was at the docks. I find that it is cool if zeds come over to investigate to your last position, but it would be cool if there was some expire timer, after which they would just give up, and continue roaming landscape. I tried to test how will they behave, so I ran into warehouse, while knowing i had some 10-12 of them outside. I literally did not move a muscle for say 5 or more mins, due to the fact i was AFK. When i came back, and tried to sneak out, they were still there, and did not move an inch, so I had ZombieCon 2012 outside waiting for catering (that would be me). I would not mind if they were still around the area, roaming, all 12 of them, but just standing there feels a little bit unrealistic. Just my 2 cents -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)

I kinda agree with Atojar, Zeds now have spider senses which I find to be unrealistic. Previously they were too dumb, i could crawl over their feet without them noticing. So i'd say, have the line of sight, just turn it down a notch, just to make sneaking viable again. I'd also suggest (if it isn't already) that zed's vision is also affected by player's outfit (something like visibility modifier i.e. 1 for civilian, 0.7 for camo, and say 0.3 for Guillie suit). Otherwise fantastic game, and overall I like how taking away weapons changed group dynamic. I have still noticed frame-rate drops, although server loads and getting in is much more stable. Keep up the great work. -
DayZ 1.7.1 Discussion - Others will be locked/deleted!

Was it just me or did the spawn rate for the can of beans (food in general) dropped significantly. I was previously finding cans in barns, warehouses, supermarkets etc. As of today (first time with 1.7.1.1. i found literally no food spawns, and I have cleared towns Gorka, Polana, and a farm just south of Dubrovka. To me that sounded a bit overrated. I saw no players, and there were zeds in the cities, so i would guess, the likelihood of finding food should be there. (not cleared by other players that is). Can you just please check that the spawn mechanism for the food was working correctly ?
