You could give back the starting makarov, but only to the players with a high humanity. They proved they will use it to defend themselves or to help other players. Survivors would still have a really good buff, but unarmed bandits wouldn't be able to kill them, and armed bandit wouldn't need to, as the makarov is a really poor weapon.

I can confirm this. I tried with a teammate on fr10 (1.7.1.5, yesterday), he was standing next to me, and wasn't able to read me via direct chat (And bafore that, I killed 3 guys who wasn't answering after I asked "friendly?" on the direct chat too...)

+1 . A lot of player have been brought to DayZ by videos like this one: I'm now playing as a bandit because it's easier, safer and more rewarding with how the game is for now, but having the choice beetween a PvP and a Co-Op gameplay would be nice.
