    I beat DayZ!!!

So I just wanted to boast a little bit about my recent encounter! I was roaming solo, heading to Starry to look for some supplies and a little excitement. I swung north west around Novy, and ran into a downed Huey; AS50 acquired. So far so good! As I made my way to the northern Deerstand, outside of Starry, I scanned the area; no snipers/riflemen in sight. Collected some basic supplies, and prepared to make my way towards the northern hill overlooking the military tents to scout for players overwatching the area. As I'm about the leave the treeline near the deerstand, I hear a vehicle coming up from behind me. I prone under a tree, and wait a bit to see if it pops into view. My immediate assumption is that they are going to be heading into Starry for a quick, in-and-out loot run. I hear the vehicle's engine turn off. I crouch run around the hill between the two deer stands in the area, near the dirt road that terminates north of Starry. As I approach a rock to take cover and scan for the vehicle, I see it! A shiny UAZ! Until now, the only vehicle I've ever encountered/acquired was a Tractor. I've logged 200+ hours of mostly solo play. I've covered at least 90% of the map, and have been in nearly every scenario. To me, this was my end-game. Steal a vehicle from another player! As I slowly approach the passenger side of the UAZ, I don't see anyone around. I assume they parked far enough out of Starry, and were going to make a supply run and return. Just as I reach the passenger door to check it out, I hear the sound of someone repairing!! It's now or never! As I make my way ever so slowly around the front of the vehicle to engage the player, an opportunity presents itself as I hear the sound of refueling! I lean around the driver fender and open fire with my M4a3. Two shots to the chest and a third to the head. Target neutralized. At this point, my hearts pumping and my hands are shaking slightly. I'm not sure if he had company, but I did know there were players within 1000m (shots heard from Starry while I was at the deer stand). I acted quickly, retrieving the supplies the player had. Coyote Backpack, plently of STANAG mags, NVGs, Rangefinders, GPS, etc etc. I jumped in the vehicle, and bugged-out! To some, this may be a common occurrence. But as I mentioned, I've played 200+ hours, and this is the first actual vehicle I've had, let alone the first pair of NVGs and Rangefinders! In my mind, until they bring back the Heli, I've beaten DayZ! To the player I killed (if they read this by chance), it was nothing personal. I do not set out to kill others, but in this circumstance I had to make an exception. I don't intend to keep it forever, as I'm sure the same will happen to me as it did to you!

    Servers not showing up?

Make sure the "Address" button at the bottom left isn't set to LAN. Mine was, for some reason. Once set to "Internet," servers popped back up!

AHHHH ArmA 2 OA Down for Maintenance!!

Just updated the Beta patch, and went to multiplayer. No servers were showing; until I noticed the Address button at the bottom left was set to LAN. Switched it to Internet....servers showing again.

    Girls first time

The ending pretty much sums up DayZ! "What now?" It only took her an hour to beat the game!
  6. Yeah, I chucked one on the ground as well. Since a lot of servers reset to keep daylight (the servers that are worth playing on since there's a lot of activity), the scope is counter-productive. Hooray for an extra 12 slots!!

    epi-pen?

As others have mentioned, they are vital if you are running with a group that seeks out hot spots. During a firefight, it can mean the difference between success and failure!
  8. I rather like the random, zig-zag pathing of the Zeds. However, being that DayZ and Arma are "simulations," it is hyper-unrealistic that these "infected" are all able to run at the speeds of Usain Bolt!!! I find it extremely hard to believe that a slightly overweight man who wore a beret had the musculature to run at such speeds! I think it would be much more intense for the infected to chase you for miles, at a constant speed, while you simply slow down due to exhaustion! So keep the endurance, but slow them down to human speeds. No amount of drugs, or infections, could ever allow a bloke to run like an Olympic sprinter! But they do affect stamina (Lance Armstrong *cough cough). More specific to the topic, I prefer the Danny Boyle "infected" over the "walking dead." Infection is the only plausible hypothesis to the cause of any kind of "zombie" outbreak. The dead will never walk, see, hear, or smell (necrosis, atrophy and rigor mortis). It's just not possible.

    Levels?

A few of those ideas would work in a realistic "simulation." Faster reload, sprint, vault etc could be implemented without any loss to the "simulation" aspect. In reality, the more you do something, the better, faster and stronger you can become at said thing. Stuff like exploding backpack and self blood-transfusion (which is impossible as you need a source from which to transfuse) shouldn't be implemented in a realistic "simulation."

A friendly face in the Wasteland!

Hey there. From the sounds of it, your system seems to be what I'm looking for. I'm not necessarily looking for a "clan" but more of a group of people that are willing to share resources (both equipment and personnel). I am an experienced survivor, and currently equipped with enough to survive solo. However, the current server I'm on is having issues and I'm looking to relocate, as well as establish a "basecamp". Since you already have one started, I would like to ask to join you. My current setup: Primary: MP5SD, AK74-Kobra Secondary: G17 Tools: Enough to sustain isolation Bonus: I currently have 3 tents that I could contribute to the group. My Steam: Newbitect My Skype: Newbitect My IGN: Bri4n Look forward to speaking with you.

    Found my first vehicle

I tend to play solo most of the time, and I have to say that vehicles are AWESOME if used properly and safely. What I mean is that they are great to move from city to city, but do so cautiously. Park well outside the city as to not draw attention to yourself from infected or PKers. Oh, and hitting things can and will blow you up!
  13. I'd be down to roll with you guys as well; so long as everyone is level-headed and understands that there is strength in numbers. Unlike a lot of players that many of us have encountered, I engage in this simulation for 2 purposes. The first is to survive. The second is to eliminate as many INFECTED as possible. It is not in my least intention to kill other players, bandits or not. I will however fire if fired upon. If you guys do in fact wish to organize a group of individuals, then I'm all in. My steam: newbitect
  14. I'm like many here; sick of being isolated and gunned down by uncivilized individuals. Steam account: newbitect Steam name: Yam4gata Location: Detroit, MI Age: 30 Required Communication tools: yes I have 60 hours of survival experience and a good understanding of the in-and-outs of survival in this game. I'm fancy myself an expert stealthy, and could assist scout/recon/loot missions to help the team. I agree that a goal should be to obtain operable transportation and enough supplies to sustain a livable community. I also think that establishing a strong base-camp would be essential to survival. Let me know if you have room in your collective, and I will seek you out and join your party! This is a S.O.S of sorts, as I'm looking for a spark of hope!
  15. I'm going to add you on Steam. My steam is newbitect, IGN is Yamagata. I have decent equipment and any comm. software needed. You're play-style is in sync with mine as well!
