Players need an Incentive to value their life above gear
stilton replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
A couple of probably retarded ideas: >> Give 'facial stubble' depending on how long their character has been alive (ingame) . Or a better idea of a visible indicator of a fresh spawn / old character. ...Adds a reason for bandits to hide their faces... Adds incentive for real 'friendly' players to not. >> [this is lifted directly from mount and blade] Give carrying certain books minor 'stat bonus' to characters such as a slight benefit to camping/medical/mechanical/explosive actions.... That increase over ingame time... This also increases/adds the value of 'knowledge' ingame and books... And trade of these items... It also means you can 'learn' the stuff from the book and then destroy it meaning you [your toon] are more valuable than the item... The problem is, these ideas steer the game more towards an RPG direction than a FPS and put the weight more on your character than the transferable skills your learn from actually playing the game, which is probably a terrible idea.... ...Especially considering none of these things worked in 'Ultima Online' to stop murdering/PKing.. some people just like to fuck others over :) -
Would You Want To See a Player Report Button?

Thread won, retarded suggestion dodged. +1 sex appeal for that man. -
It looks like a teleport hack at 2min But obviously because it's from your perspective you cant really be certain... You say you're not lagging.. But if he's lagging, that will still negatively effect you and your perception of him. Looks like the ol' lagswitch trick from quake days, although i'm quite certain that doesn't work on arma and thats why people use addon-hacks, there are addon hacks that allow teleporting...

Doesn't it make you feel superior though? Come on the forums, read all this retarded tripe and just think, what reality do these people live in... ..It's about as ridiculous as people bitching about dev/staff 's amount of time-off... Because they made a one-time payment of $30! That's the price of a meal in a decent restaurant... ....or it would be, if server rental was a requirement. It's not, its optional.

...And he's actually describing Wasteland mod on Arma2. The game you want is already out there. -

No mate, that's called.. Team Deathmatch. or Wasteland mod for Arma2... You can also do the whole Dayz lone-wolf on that thing... ..And they have doritos over their heads... Imagining that these ideas were truly 'free' to implement -- meaning its not going to cost time and money away from actual development of new features / bugfixing that's actually a good idea.. ...What i honestly don't understand is what possible benefit people think these armbands will provide? So it says you're a friendly? I don't know you... If you get into my 'personal space' of about a mile around me, and start pointing a gun at me, i'm still going to kill you out of self preservation... I can recognise my friends / guys ive just seen who dont kill me, through communication or clothing already? -
What is the eyeball fov setting in real life? Also - you don't know what you're talking about. Clearly you don't have 3 monitors, so how do you know if it's just a 'gimmick'. The peripheral advantage alone is worth it.... (Yes, people with widescreen monitors get an advantage, i said it. deal with it)

I kind of pity the naivety... You honestly think there will be some sort of foolproof way to implement a system of benefit to you? Like i said already, my playstyle is that of the voyeur, i enjoy what some people would consider the 'boredom' of this game... I enjoy the 'walking simulator'. Or hunting people, not to kill them.. just to play hide and seek.. Losing my items doesn't bother me, because looting is currently very easy. That's Dayz, i enjoy it. (sorry you don't) If your 'system' got implemented and i saw a bunch of froobs all standing in the centre of a town shaking hands around a campfire being all 'friendly' -- i'd actually be more inclined to take up murdering just to fuck with their day and explain to them, this isn't minecraft. If you're determined this is the game for you, and you want to cosplay the badass hero... Can i suggest you only approach a player and say 'friendly' if you're already aiming your gun at them... You might not get killed as much -- No promises though. Again, i'm sure once the survival aspect and zombies are actually made challenging, there will be some natural incentive to cooperation. You suggestion doesn't work, and it's not needed (for anyone but the people who want to meet new friends - on a murder simulator) -

So i and my compadre Cyril were in Cherno boarding up the Burger King for the night -- but we had no food A lone survivor appeared, as if conveniently placed for the purpose of narrative ... So i strolled over to this friendly trendy fellow to trade some beans for his corn that he had been raising on yonder big farm to the north... I noticed from the big green dorito above his head he was friendly... and the general was screaming in my ear.. GO TO FLAG C... shit wrong game, back to my story.. So he said he was friendly and i was about to pay for the corn in kind, into his corn... When all of a sudden i got lit up by delta squad hiding in the treeline behind him. Delta squad rushed out the tree and all of those shitheads had red doritos and red armbands... but they were talking like they were friends? DEVS PLAZ FIX MORALITY SYSTEM Moral of the Story: Your system is flawed -
Game gets better every minute... I saw the other thread related to this where someone was making a book exchange... I thought it was a cool idea that people were 'roleplaying' the idea of ... The book of eli... Probably has nothing to do with the fact i watched it the night before last... Then i see here that you can actually open and read them... As weird as it sounds is actually motivating me to fire up dayz. I haven't played in a week... I got looted up and had nothing to do except PK people looting up -- which makes me feel evil.. ..But NOW.... Time to go read me some books! Dayz u so awesome. It will be great for people doing the whole 'rp' thing, I'm sure some of the more technical books, as someone said earlier would be good for 'skill training' if they decide to implement it that way... Car repair, first aid manual, wilderness survival, what leaves not to wipe your arse with.. Etc. Good thread!

As in the topic title... Me and a few friends were running as a group on SE4 server a few days ago... We found in the space of 45mins: - a tractor [2 guys camo/ghillie repairing it, camo died, my guys found it mins later - ghillie boy had fled] - a v3s truck [found as i was running back to the skirmish] - 3-4 'small boats' [found after v3s desync killed us all] - rubber dingy [this thing is totally badass.] I -believe- we were the cause of the next 3-4 server crashes tbh, although obviously i cant attest to this because i dont know -exactly- what every other player on the server was doing... But basically as soon as we got in and started driving/boating around, it would go fine for a good 5 minutes before it would start to desync.. For myself, as a passenger, it was the usual arma-passenger-related-desync... but slightly worse. My position would stop being updated and although i can hear the engine running the truck is static with the wheels spinning accompanied by at least a yellow-lag-chain... Although i believe in some cases there was no indicator of lag and also we were getting no desync in the 'p' menu, but it was obviously still broken as our comms through voip quickly went to discussing our different locations. This was then accompanied by the server crashing... We managed to check out the island using the dingy successfully, it was a larf for the most part... So i mean, the vehicles are working, but (and dont get me wrong, i KNOW its an alpha) but in its current state they were more deadly than the deadliest of players... But the time spent refueling the vehicles and actually having a 'goal' - other than 'GEAR UP' - was quite interesting, also better having to question whether to take tht jerry can and scrap metal or extra ammo :) So... lots of fun - but, because of the fact it only worked for, at most 15 minutes.. until it crashed.. It was shortlived fun before rage insued. Stability would be great! :D Easier said than done though, rite?

Wait...this mod require ARMA2 & ARMA2:OA?
stilton replied to maleitch's topic in New Player Discussion
Arma 2: CO is Arma 2 + OA.. That's why its called combined operations, combined meaning.. 2 things together. Unless i missunderstood what you were referring to as 'shitty info' -

Pfff Stories. I kill people to see them fall down..
stilton posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I kill people, sometimes in cherno.. Just to see them fall down. Sometimes, me and my mates scope out their bodies for rifles/whatever.. If they're not just carrying a mak and a coyote we might consider looting them. Usually its just to kill them.. No other reason, we got supplies. Sometimes its fun to just deny people what they've been working for for a while... The thought of those sweet virgin tears is like music to mah ears. FLAAAAAAME ON. -

Maybe they dont.. Maybe they realise they're not at a zombie apocalypse reenactment.... Reenactments are that way --> Thats where people wear silly hats and dresses and fire muskets loaded with nothing at... nothing right? MAYBE.. They realise they're playing a computer game and the most fun they can have is to deny you any. Maybe. You mad. [Also +1 to the guy who runs around with nothing. Thats balls of steel' date= even i wouldnt curb stomp you.. Well, maybe an ankle shot. ] -

8th consecutive day trying to get DayZ running - PLEASE HELP!!!
stilton replied to KoRnage_1's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Epic thread... ..The best part is where the guy is raging so hard he forgets to give any description of his actual problem. Protip: Copy the big files from your /steamApps folder with 'Arma' in the name, once its downloaded... to another folder for backup. Better yet, use the 'backup local game files' feature built into steam... /facepalm -
2 guys on virginia 20 shooting people in the loading area
stilton replied to [sot]sqwurl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Comparing Bunny hopping /Russian walk to shooting people in the debug forest to take their loot? Really? Are you sure you feel thats a valid comparison.. I guess you must do, since youve written it.. But. Sigh. One is actually a 'skill' or a 'move' you have to do which gives you the benefit of speed/silence ingame.. Your just tapping a key.. Its not actually 'exploiting' any game mechanics. The 'debug plains/forest' is an out-of-bounds area in dayz filled with placeholder AI, that's PRETTY OBVIOUS your not supposed to be in... That you only get into, in certain circumstances.. So, its hardly a comparable sitatution is it? The Competitive Css arguement is, that it's a more competitive playstyle... Explaining how to kit your 'clan' out with phat-lewts by exploiting the bug - you can't really use that as a valid arguement here, I'm sure you'll find a way to rationalise it because you obviously feel the need to defend your 'ehonorz' or whatever... But they're not even remotely similar. Furthermore i've been into the debug plains and used the people spawning as target practice (sorry if it adversely affected their characters.. But what can i say, i was just fucking about. Harsh times.) -
I understand what I want out of this game.

This post' date=' is a quality post... And tbh, im kind of half surprised this didnt come from a moderator, and there aren't copy+pastes of this post all over the board in other retarded threads.... Infact i dont want to get into trouble [for backseat moderating'] and i appreciate free speech and whatever but... Why is there so much 'let the moron say his piece' instead of... 'Not possible in the arma 2 engine, l2mod' or 'Again, in english?' /waits to be crushed -

People who are saying there's a problem with your character remaining idle inside the world with this arguement: 'lets not fix the problem incase we hurt people who accidently DC' Lets face it.. You dont actually lose -anything- if you die.. that cant be replaced, just a waste of time.. We're here to solve a problem.. If you have terrible internet, perhaps you should get that fixed before you play a persistant online game with permadeath? Right? -
Hey, quick question to the community.
stilton replied to Nem (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
this aint a poke at you at all.. ..But i'd hold off until your friends get it. Because you're going to join, get picked off by more experienced players (because your on your own) think: F> and ragequit.. Or perhaps not. But it seems like there's a lot of that going around... :) ..Whereas you get in with a group of 4 or more people and manage to meet up you'll be the ones picking off other people, which will be glorious... and even if you bug out every 5 minutes it'll be more fun than running around on your own..
