  2. The DayZ dev team is going about updating DayZ in completely the wrong way. They are trying to add finishing touches and new features to a very unstable game. For example, in the latest patch 1.7.2.5, a player is sent to the coast when they "server hop". This assumes that EVERY player that goes from one server to another is trying to take advantage of a loot spot. However, as most of us know, this is not the case in the slightest. While this new feature helps stop a small fraction of players from server hopping for good items, it unfairly punishes players who run into the abundance of hackers on servers, have visual glitches, have internet problems, or simply want to change servers due to lag or any other valid reason. Although I outlined one specific issue in this thread, it goes as a general rule for future updates. The purpose of a hotfix should be to fix current problems, not add new ones. If I may suggest, add new features in major updates, and leave the hotfixes to deal with the resulting problems.
  3. So me and a few of my friends have been playing DayZ for a while now and have been developing our current characters for quite some time. We have looted most of Chernarus and have now taken to player killing and have a mainly shoot-on-site mentality, except when we are near the coast, as we usually like to try to avoid killing newly spawned players when we can. Anyway, we often makes trips to heavily populated areas like the NWAF and Stary Sobor. Naturally we come across other players and squads quite often. However, whenever we fire upon these players (and we almost always hit them and deliver fatal shots) 99% of these players disconnect before they "die" and we are unable to loot their bodies. One occasion jumps to mind when we were looting the NWAF and we ambushed by another squad. When we fired back, and turned the tides in our favor (specifically hitting all members with at least a few bullets up close) they disconnected and their bodies were nowhere to be found. My main reason for bringing this up is to ask the community at large what their take is on this type of behavior. In my opinion it is a form of cheating, and while player killing IS a questionable matter, ALTF4'ing the second you get shot at is not justified. I also ask what can be done about this. I had one idea which was to add what I termed: a "DC Buffer" where when a player disconnects from a server, their character remains active and ultimately vulnerable for 30-45 seconds. This would prevent people from panic DC'ing whenever they get shot at. Another addition could be the ability to do a "soft-logout" where when you want to logout, you must stay stationary for 15 seconds, before logging out. I do have footage of players being shot at and then disconnecting if anyone is interested.
  4. So lately I have been experiencing severly low framerates when exploring cities. Before you say, "Oh get a better PC!" my Pc is not the problem. I can give you my specs if you want but if I can run BF3 on High settings at around 80 fps, this game should not be an issue. Anyway, I'm assuming that this is the game causing these drops in framerate. It is very frustrating because it seems like whenever I am in a clutch situation, my frames drop to 8 or 9, which is terrible. This also makes it difficult to continue my DayZ series on my YouTube channel. If someone could please confirm that this is an issue with DayZ, or help me to resolve this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Better Ammunition

So since the running theme with DayZ is a quest to become more realistic, I had an idea on how to make ammo more like it would be in the real world. First off, when a magazine is emptied, it should stay in the inventory, and be listed as an empty [insert gun name here] magazine. Also, at some military barracks and outposts there should be caches of ammuntion of a certain caliber. The purpose of this would be to refill magazines. You could also have empty or partially full magazines spawn, to add realism. So for example if you empty an AKM mag, the mag stays in your inventory, and the next time you come across some ammo of the 7.62 caliber, you could refill your empty mags. Just a though, let me know what you think, or how you would change this!

    DayZ Stories

So today I started a new character after having to respawn because I was stuck in the wilderness due to the 1.7.1 patch (Not complaining by the way, this mod is in alpha, it has issues, I accept that, it's still fun!) So I spawned and of course didn't have a gun so I was forced to play really stealthy until I found a weapon. I spawned near Elektro and slowly crept into the city. I raided a couple places including a barn and a brick building. I found a double barrel shotgun and a revolver but no ammo, I also looted the roof of the hospital for some med supplies. While climbing down the ladder from the hospital roof, I heard shots and looked over at the office buildings to see a group of bandits murder 2 survivors. I hit the deck of course and waited till they left (they got chased out of town by Zeds) I then crept over to the office building to see if I could loot anything useful from the building and the unlucky survivors. Inside I found a lee enfield and 2 mags of ammo, which I swapped for me double barrel because I had no choice. From there I found a Czech backpack and a makarov with a few mags. As I was looting a room I heard player's footsteps. Expecting the bandits to have returned, I hit the deck and prepared my lee enfield to try my best to take out the bandits. To my surprise, the footsteps I heard were that of a fellow survivor. It was the first friendly I had seen in the game and it felt awesome to find someone who was willing to help me out. (All the other players I had met either shot me on sight, or pretended to be friendly and shot me later on) Me and this friendly proceeded to loot the rest of elektro finding assault rifles and shotguns as well as ALICE packs and loads of other useful gear. We fought off two massive zombie hordes together and after and hour of play I had 49 zombie kills. He eventually had to log off, and I did as well. This was one of the best experiences I have had in DayZ and I plan on continuing this life for as long as I can (of course). The best part is that I recorded the whole thing and will have it all up on YouTube soon, you can check out the first part now!

    No Weapon = Crapshoot

Of course I agree on DayZ's purpose, I just think that a game stops being fun when you are not in control of the odds. Also, since the zombie system is in no way perfect, or predictable (at least not reliably predictable) it's only right to give the player some means of personal defense. (Even if that means only one magazine of ammunition)
  9. So I have always believed that the best games challenge the player in ways that they can overcome through skill and perseverance. DayZ is a very challenging game and I really enjoy it. However, removing a weapon when the player spawns is a terrible change. Less supplies and/or ammo would have been justifiable, and made the game more difficult which is good. Removing a gun takes the control out of the players hands and places initial success on luck. After 6 times in a row of being swarmed by zombies right upon spawn* with now way to defend myself I gave up. Please put the starting gun back into the game. *I'm not an idiot, I find it necessary to mention that I was doing all I could to be stealthy, this includes crawling through every zombie populated area.
