That's very interesting to hear. May put a community bounty on Sedans now. Give them at least a proper test. And I absolutely agree with the suggestion. My personal guidance is normally not to even bother with 4th gear until you get very comfortable with the Hatchback. Just overrev it and enjoy the ride. Heh.

I like how the routes are prioritized. Haven't messed much with the Sedan, been crutching on Hatchbacks. How's it run onroad/offroad?

Yeah seems legitimate enough, not too many duplicates... but just to be sure... can you PM me the server and location so I can double-check for everyone here? All you need is one of the limited pieces of transportation that are currently horribly crippled and ridden by bugs? That's true. Can you quickly get that on a low population server with an out of game map that shows vehicle locations by grinding a night of running on a fresh spawn? Sure can. Assuming you find that unbugged vehicle by that method or getting extremely lucky, there's now the fixing operations. With good luck it can be pretty quick, poor luck and you can spend hours looking for the correct tires. Probably be a little easier if you stoop to server hopping in major cities though. All that done, if you follow a few well known optimized channels of helicopter spawns, without getting that car stuck, with most likely also referencing out of game content, can you have around a 25% chance to run into a helicopter every half an hour or so? Yup. So yeah, all you need is a car, most likely a low population server, and a grindy mentality backed by third party material, a lot of luck, or a good theft. All depends on your level of cheese I suppose. Still, like I said, for the average DayZ player, that's a good find. =p

Although a good find, none of it is hacker material. M4s or AK101s would be an indication of hackers. A ton of identical weapons or gear especially fully loaded with attachments would indicate duplicators. Still, congrats on your find ^.^ For many people, that's a good month of grinding.

I'm a notorious alt tabber, which I've accepted in my heart will eventually get me swacked. That said, logged in yesterday to being handcuffed, naked, laying on the ground, unconscious from dehydration. Only in DayZ is that how your buddies "hook you up" by saving your gear when they've noticed you left your DayZ running. Lol. /facepalm

I recall the thread, including the clever title. ;) It's not a very scientific test atm, just relatives based on old retired camps we no longer use and didn't fully shut down. I'm pretty sure that same thread, mixed with plenty of conflicting comments on the subject, was the inspiration for doing a dedicated test. Just waiting for a proper time to protect the integrity of the results as much as possible. In the meantime doing replant operations on major assets just to be safe. ^.^

From DGN's playerbase, I've heard a few times that 3/1 to 4/1 would be perfect. Day taking priority. However, as I understand it, Server admins are extremely limited on their ability to customize day/night cycles currently. Which is why a lot of servers go for 100% day, to maintain time zone activity around the clock and prevent anyone from getting stuck always playing at night.

I'd like to do a dedicated test on the persistence of containers and if basic interaction or a full replant is necessary at this stage. Probably going to wait until the next wipe however. We've personally had no major issues with persistence, recently. Without moving barrels or tents (but still interacting with them at least once a week) we've recorded up to 30 days and counting persistence. Items observed are barrels and camping tents. Car tents we've recorded a persistence of no less than 2 weeks with interaction, before we replanted. Military tents up to two weeks before replant. For obvious reasons, being a little more precautionary with the larger storage nodes. As I said though, would love to do a dedicated test. For science. ^.^

Very cool, keep up the good work!

Had some really good synergy with that first partner of yours. Communication was on point.

Still, love hearing all these views on the value of base building. Some really good thoughts in this thread. -
[Opinion] The Value of Base Building?

I somehow feel a chunk of DayZ issues revolve around trying to cater to too may crowds without giving them their own realms. Something as simple as cutting the public hive into a rating system. Something as simple as "Easy, Veteran, Hardcore". Allowing only public servers of the same ratings to communicate with each other. And letting those types of players gravitate towards their preference of play. Still, I have faith in the development team. Building a game and having the doors open through the Alpha process, is still some pretty new grounds in gaming history. Lot of players have no idea what an Alpha product is, and equally don't know how to react when they run into Alpha content. I do think there is a strong disservice in marketing this game currently, and the limited success of launch may have clouded the real possibility of what this game could generate both as entertainment and as revenue. -
Have found a single M4 in the last two months. Haven't found an Ak101. Most likely was a third generation theft from a hacker or dupper.

Shamelessly, I'd like to see an optic and suppressor for the weapon system. But like you've pointed out, there's only one slot currently left open. Of the two items, I'd lean more towards the optic. In it's current state, even with the beastly round, we end up selling our FAL's at discount and hording AUGs and SVDs instead. Definitely agreed about the foldable stock, aside from cosmetics, it should count as reduced storage in bags and tents. Seems perfectly in theme.

Damn that's a gloomy thought.

Something else to consider is appealing to clans and groups. I love 1PP, 3PP is definitely something worth learning but IMO, nothing can replace being limited to what your character is looking at. The immersion of it, is just fantastic. That said, generally clans desire some sort of incentive or background with the server owner. It's a long term commitment to move a playerbase unto someones server, and there's isnt a clan leader out there that wants to be seen as wasting their members time, especially if the server owner has some crazy agenda that later develops. It's a huge trust issue. [DGN] is currently scouting servers for a move, after the next hard wipe. I think a lot of players are in that same boat. Now is definitely the time to prep the framework and get your name and goals out there to attract the soon to be hobo masses of DayZ. ;)

Damnit >.< I almost saved the text version too, but just bookmarked it instead. Essentially, a LOT of fixes to the NewUI. You'll see your hotbars again, will see your statuses, and will be able to use your maps. Also reading notes will no longer be hidden by your character model. The volume on the VSS should get turned down, which is nice for a weapon supposedly suppressed but sounds like an unsuppressed AK when fired. Fal will have attachments, which currently it lacks. Bunch of minor bug fixes like removing that building on top of a building in Cherno, grass in the middle of roads, and other little tweaks. I think they also have patched the V3S getting caught on weeds, which i haven't experienced myself. Those where the big changes I noticed.

Best place for pistol suppressors seems to be cop cars. There's a chance at all the other spots you've listed, but for some reason cop cars seem to provide them the most.

I love Western. All the pleasures of NW Airfield, minus the probability of TTSKO and the tripple Helicopters but without nearly as much traffic. You can actually overwatch the base before you move into it, unlike NW Tent City. Being overwatched while in it, isn't necessarily a death sentence unless you're doing crazy stuff. Water and Food issues take a little more planning but meh. Lots of natural zombie spawns, so it's easy to read the base. In two or so months, have never found a player there. Just differing degrees of player boldness on building close to that camp. From as blatant as building 6 tents right beside it, to using the valley in the treeline north of that base. Easily one of my favorite locations, just feels...right. ^.^

That's the Stall Bug. You'll need a server reset or two, or a friend to get in and drive it a few seconds. Once someone does, it'll unlock the vehicle for you. Also, not every reset will make it drivable, but it's a chance. Just keep trying from time to time, camp out in the area in the meantime. ^.^ Edit: It's also important to stop the tires from spinning by hitting the brake when it's stuck. Otherwise you'll turn off the engine, dismount, and they'll keep wearing on the vehicle until they pop.

FN Fal attachments AND a reduction of sound on the VSS? It must be our birthdays.

[Opinion] The Value of Base Building?

A good clan or group definitely changes the experience of DayZ considerably. I know they brought up the idea of underground storage, and likely have a plan for the rendering tree branch issue before implementing the little bird. It is a good point once again though, these non-minimalist structures although pretty, cost considerably in the size of your footprint without really adding too much strategic value. I'm curious if predators and hordes however will change this. Walls and wire becoming a a ton more valuable, if there's a very good chance 10 or 12 infected are gonna stroll into your camp while you're organizing your personal stuff. :O "Live off your back" motto. It's definitely got a long history of success. Never went as far as multiple characters, but in our evolution we definitely passed that stage. I think the big issue comes when you just have too many assets to reasonably even consider that method aside from personal favorites. Some time ago [DGN] hit a stash of nearly 9 Military tents, 2 car tents, and on the upper end of 30 barrels. Full of quality military and helicopter loot. And it's moments like that, in which you really start to hit that glass ceiling with that method, IMO. Something was said about keeping to the aesthetic of DayZ, having realistic structural limitations and what not. Hoping it translates well to the game as well. -
