Unluckiest Thing That Happened To You?

A squad of friendlies came upon me looting a church and surrounded the building. They were shouting at me to come out. I said I needed help with a blood pack and one of them came in to help with several others covering him from the doorway. All weapons were pointed at me. He was yelling at me to drop my axe so I did. But then it auto-armed my pistol and he started yelling at me to put that down too. So I tried lowering the gun but the stupid key was bugged or something. I kept trying to lower it without dropping it but it would never go down. I was trying to tell them but they were all yelling at me. I turned around so at least I wasn't pointing it at them. I guess they decided I wasn't friendly anymore and blasted me in the back. I was doing really well too.

    Crowbar will not melee

I'm having the same issue. Dropped/picked it up a dozen times, logged off/on, still no workie.

    Wasted time in the beginning

So? I don't see how that breaks anything. If you want the no-weapon experience then you still have it. And if it does break something then it could just restrict your character to only the server type you started on. No one said it was impossible. I'm not bagging on it because it's hard. I just don't like how long it takes to get back into the game. Anecdotal. This is definitely NOT the case. I'm not saying it needs to be more fair or easy. I'm just talking about cutting out a large chunk of unnecessary frustration at the beginning. We've all started a bazillion new games. We've all been through that so many times and most of us probably just want to get back into the game when we die.

    I dislike the spawn system.

If people are spawning right behind you then you're camping at spawn points. Three things: 1) Don't be a griefer and camp and spawn points 2) If you don't want people spawning around you, don't camp at spawn points 3) Sounds like you're getting what you deserve by camping at spawn points EDIT: Sorry, that sounds mean. Not trying to be, I just don't understand what you're getting at.

    Hunger/Thirst while offline system

Wow. Please don't turn this game into a Tamagotchi. An offline hunger/thirst system is a really bad idea. I'm surprised there's even a discussion about it.

Oh' date=' right. Silly me, why didn't I think of that. Great idea. Really, this is such a good, simple solution. Those who still want the challenge are already probably playing on at least Veteran. And if they're not then they're all talk anyway.

    justify your actions

There are going to be PKers as long as it's easy. The abundance of guns in the game makes it really easy to get away with. 75% of the people I run into try to kill me. Most of them I don't even see before I'm fired on. It does ruin the game a lot, especially when I just want to team up with someone. I had a band of players actually give me a chance once and it got really tense when they were yelling at me to lower my weapon. Unfortunately a bug was preventing me from doing that and they blew me away when it looked like I wasn't complying. Besides the bug, that was really fun gameplay. That's the potential this mod has. But getting people to play that way is going to be hard. I wish I could booby-trap my body. That would be poetic.

    Wasted time in the beginning

2 out of 3 games I start end up with me running defenseless from zombies within about 30 minutes and dying like the dumb noob I am. This is intensely frustrating. Finding a weapon when you're defenseless is a painfully slow process so when I spend a half hour looking and subsequently dying, then starting over and going through the whole process again, I can easily spend an hour and a half playing before I can really start playing. Is there something that could be done to prevent what I feel like is so much wasted time? Starting with the ability to melee would be awesome. I hate not being allowed to defend myself until I pass some sort of test that I have to take every time I start a new character. I like the idea of starting with a melee weapon. It would in no way decrease the brutality of the mod since we just get a gun eventually anyway. It would just let us get into the actual gameplay quicker. And besides, it's more realistic that we would have at least a plank of wood or something when we begin, isn't it? P.S. Anyone who tells me to F off and go find another game because I can't hack this one can go F off and find another thread. I'm not listening to you.
  9. NO I would say YES if we could melee. But spawning completely defenseless is ridiculous. Who tied my hands behind my back, anyway?

    Isn't DayZ mostly about realism?

Yeah, hand to hand would be cool. We probably couldn't do much damage since most of us can't bash skulls in with our fist... but it would buy us some time if we could knock em over. Good point. But where is this abundance of grocery stores in the mod? It would be nice if we could stumble upon a partially stocked supermarket every once in a while. So would I but that mechanic does not exist. And we're allowed to play at night, which is cool. I just wish it was a more true-to-life experience.

    Bring Back Starter Weapon Petition

It's a survival game. It's ridiculous to put us in a game like this and told we're not allowed to defend ourselves. I would prefer being able to melee over starting with a gun, but that mechanic doesn't exist. Who tied my hands behind my back, anyway?
  12. I think we've gone past realism in some areas with 1.7.1. I started playing in 1.7.0 and I LOVE the brutality. It's a great mod. But it seems like we're creeping into being difficult just for the sake of being difficult. Here's what I'm thinking: Realistic: 1) As much as I hate to admit it, starting without a gun is more realistic. I live in Idaho and I have guns, but most people don't. I agree with this one, but it requires some additional mechanics, like melee (see below) 2) Zombie aggro range. It's higher than it was and it seems more realistic (But I should point out that it doesn't improve my experience - especially since I'm not allowed to defend myself when I spawn) Unrealistic: 1) No melee. There is no way to quietly dispatch a single zombie except with a crossbow. Realism would require that I could bash some heads in. Not everyone has a gun, but would you leave your house without a golf club, bat, kitchen knife, axe, fire poker, meat tenderizer, paper weight, etc? 2) Starting with no weapons. We would realistically have SOMETHING. And if we're not allowed to melee then I think it's unfair to take our starter gun. It's unrealistic to be completely defenseless. 3) Starting with no food/water. That's the second thing I'd grab if I'm forced to flee my house, right after a weapon. 4) Pitch black nights. Even starlight should give some light. We shouldn't be forced to use a flashlight when it's not necessary. Would you want to use a flashlight while creeping through town in the middle of a z-apocalypse? 5) Needing food and water so often. We're already doing night and day in real-time. This means we would need food and water at real-time intervals as well. 6) Too many guns (again... melee would be our primary defense). Guns should be a novelty and very rare. But this might change the dynamic more than you intend. 6) Too much PvP. This playstyle is fun for some people and that's cool. But really, people would be forced to co-operate more often than shooting at each other. It is totally unrealistic behavior when 75% of the people I run into try to kill me. I don't know how you would balance this. It seems like the high abundance of guns might be contributing to it. Keep up the good work. But I should point out that if it keeps getting more unrealistically brutal, then I, with scores of others, will definitely be leaving this mod behind... EDIT - just changed the title

    Bring Back Starter Weapon Petition

You're so right! So why are we getting any help at all? Let's just spawn naked! Why should we have ANY fighting chance in the game? +1 for bringing back a starter weapon
