It would make sense, after all, if a power plant's cooling pool was to lose power and stop refrigerating the spent cores, they would heat up until they cause a massive explosion. With something like the dayz outbreak, a plant would be able to run on auto, to a point, then it would rely on back up generators. Once the diesel runs out though.... KABOOOOOM The only problem is, with an area the size of Chernarus, almost the entire map would be a death zone. (shortly after the actual Pripyat (Chernobyl) disaster Oslo's power plant recorded a massive radioactive spike 10 times the regular radiation.... Norway!) This radioactive waste would be pumped into the air for weeks as the fire raged in the plant. Bear in mind the actual exclusion zone around Pripyat is 2,600km2 Which would be the entire Charnarus map and then some.

Rappel or Car-Jack - multiple uses for rope and hooks
Phuck Norris replied to S3V3N's topic in Suggestions
Or it should be limited to one car (must have wheels on it to be towed) and the act of towing should drastically reduce the speed of the lead (read as working) car. Also, when fuel becomes a thing, towing should drain more fuel, like how you overheat with too much gear. It should also be limited to the offroad and the truck, just to make it a bit harder to do. Not only that, but the rope and hook should deteriorate over time. maybe even lasting only a couple KM before breaking. As for the rappeling, It would be good for someone in overwatch, or sniping from a rooftop, as a means to get down faster. The rappel only campsites does sound a good idea.... But there really isn't anywhere on the map that can only be reached that way (that I know of). But for such areas to be put in, people will eventually learn the locations of these base areas and find these bases much easier. If you are talking about using a rope to attach to a tent then hang the tent from the cliff face that way... It could work, they do something similar on some mountain ranges. But it will probably end up being abused and we will have tents hanging from the side of buildings and other climbable structures. -

Dude... Ladders and stairs are already deadly enough in Dayz... Now you want to be dangling from a rope at the top of like the fire station or the apartments? I do like the idea though, Could be good if getting chased, unless the animation takes forever. -
(Humor) Scared the crap out of yourself shooting a gun
Phuck Norris replied to voxframe's topic in General Discussion
This happens to me while double carrying. I (moronically) seem to run around with my finger poised on the left mouse button. Which is fine when empty handed, or holding a melee weapon, but when I have a gun.... I know it's going to happen, it always does.. but I never know when! And when it does... It's one of those HOLY SHIT moments. It also spooks my buddy whom I play alongside. When it happens all I hear is "Holy fuck was that you holy fuck TREES TREES¬!!!!" -
It's witchcraft!!! Burn therm maps at the stake!

Walking into the Kamy police station to find nothing but 36 police hats.

I did this once, and have never trusted the things again. Course, I also got rather flustered, when I saw the grenade hovering at my side, and forgot what button was run... So I backed up a few steps, then casually walked right up to the grenade and.... Well, you know what happens when you casually walk up to a live grenade... Stick to flares, flashbangs and smoke granades. At least you will survive throwing those. But yeah, press G (or whatever you have assigned for throw) and hold for a few seconds, aim with the mouse and release to (hopefully) throw it. If it's a grenade... run like fuck the other way!

I prefer to use the online maps, myself. I view them as more a "points of interest" map that you would get in a tourist shop. Forgive me if I am wrong, but can't you already make markers on your map and hand it to a friend/loot off a body, with the markers still on it? If so I am surprised that people have not used this to create scavenger hunts.... I might do this on my server sometime.

The mags are in houses that have the steps on the outside, the red and green ones. I think it's the red ones I have had the most luck with, also deer stands. I have also found them in the houses with the shelves and wardrobe in the side room, the yellow with a kinda reddish roof. Basically where you find the gun you will find the mag.... Just never at the same time. Sometimes I will find mags but no gun, like right now I have a guy with two mags and about 140 bullets, but still on the look out for the gun. I tend to keep 2-3 mags on me at one time, depending on my bullet count, emptying 30 round and 75 round AKM mags for the bullets, and boxes of ammo too, when I find them. Edit: I keep the mags and bullets, cause I like that gun. I am always on the look out for it, and the illusive magazines.

I think a way to combat the lack of infected out there would be to have an instant respawn of infected. You would be able to have the feel of more infected. If you have, say, 50 in an area, but the number never falls below 50 at any time you would have a more crowded feel to the town, yet not needing a massive amount of infected on the map. Obviously the number of infected would have to be proportionate to the size of a town or city, with rural small towns having only a few compared to large cities like Berizino having 75 or so... You could probably fill the map, and have a massive population of infected with only around 1000 per map. Of course there would have to be a distance from death to respawn point. But to have an infected suddenly turn up at any time would make this game feel more deadly... Well, from the infected, not the people playing call of dayz

I prefer to look at things this way; Once the game is fully done it has a bigger chance of becoming rather stale or surpassed by another game, "because there is nothing new to get excited about." If you look at games like GTA V that took 2-3 years to develop and had a staff of hundreds working on it. In essence there really isn't all that much on there either. At least very little "new" stuff we already didn't have in GTA 4. These days we are getting games like COD, FIFA, NBA, AC coming out on an almost yearly basis. But again, the development teams are far bigger than Dayz has. Also if you really look at it, those games are all exactly the same with a few tweaks and some new skins for things. Dayz may have started out as a mod for Arma 2, but it is being built from the ground up, to become a game in it's own right. Until then we can expect new things added, bad things removed and tweaks that will improve this game over time. But once the game is fully finished, I bet there will be people complaining that there is nothing new on Dayz anymore. -

The thing with such open world games, with so little to do in them, is repetition gets dull. Spawn, loot, gear up, die. That seems to sum up Dayz in a nutshell. So people tend to just play it like it was a COD style game. Run and gun with no real objective. Some use the open world, to create a story. Fill the void the lack of gameplay brings. Some may be more "in character" than others, but these are the people that are trying to give Dayz some life. I believe, that when the zombie population greatly increases, ammo will be too valuable to waste on other players and co-operation will be a much desired commodity. But until then, things are not going to differ much, though I would like to see people respect the no KoS servers more. If you want to do that, do it on a server that is fine with it. Where people expect it. I personally prefer to have some interaction before dying. Last time I didn't even get to finish saying "Are you friendly?" before I was bludgeoned to death. It was a very disappointing death. Personally, I would rather die from a maniac wearing nothing but a nurses outfit, shoes and a welding mask, brandishing a chainsaw chasing me down than a random bullet by a sniper 700 meters away. So what if you die getting double crossed. Who cares if that fully kitted Mosin is gone. You can always get that stuff back. If you view "getting geared" as the objective of the game then why not enjoy the journey, meet new people and some interesting characters. After all, that person in your sights could become your best friend, or a crazed cannibal on the hunt for his next meal. But if you pull that trigger you will never know. Life always throws you "what if" moments. Take the dare and go for it.

Hi there. Pretty new to the game (Almost 60 hours) I am friendly, though usually don't look it, as I do like to wear the welding mask lol Right now I am playing a character called Richard Balzac, So if you meet me in game say hi...
