My biggest peeves right now are when the character is near the corner of a building or door-frame, it's like my mouse sensitivity is suddenly 50x what it normally is. It's so jarring. Not sure if the new player controller will fix that but I'm really looking forward to being able to stow/do stuff while moving or changing stances and just having the basic level of functionality we've come to expect from just about any FPS genre game.

You say that but what use is it if you have a bag on your back?

Odd / Random FPS "deadzones".. does anybody else experience this?
Arduras replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I know if I go anywhere near Novo, even if it's off-screen or I'm like a Km away my FPS seems to just nose-dive from a barely playable 20-30 to like 5. -
Thanks bud. Just twiddling my thumbs and getting shit done with life today I guess. Waiting for the update~

People keep saying it's such a buff. On my Athlon X4 x64 and R7 260X would it give me a significant boost? I have 16 GB of RAM and a SSD but I read somewhere DayZ is capped at 2GB of Ram. I could give it 12 and not bat an eye lol. I bought 16 GB of ram with the hopes games would use it - load EVERYTHING INTO RAM (super fast load, etc) Textures obviously into VRAM (2GB) and that would be ideal.. Like if I could just copy the 10 GB on my hard-drive to my ram and give'er that'd be nice. XD

I agree with 7 largely. They already stated no patch this week so earliest bet is next Wednesday.

Not sure if you're trolling because your other posts are mostly informative or productive.. I kind of hope not but I have this sinking feeling.

If you hit someone at 70m and they keep running that arrow is tearing their shit up. They should most definitely be bleeding if not killed. Most of the changes I want are animation related so it's basically "we'll see" but I definitely want the return of a 5-arrow mag. Having to stand still aiming an arrow (which can't keep up with your mouse at ALL lol) while someone has a gun is silly. It should be a 1-shot kill to 20m. 2 shot kill to 60m. 3 shots beyond that. As it is the drawing animation takes a while - the time it takes for someone to dump their mag and have even a third of their rounds hit you - time for them to take at least 2 accurate shots. So it's not unreasonable in context. Right now the bow is effectively useless in it's "effective range" because of the current animation problems. You should be able to pop off shots in close quarters even if they are fairly in-accurate (that sway mechanic is crazy wide x_x) and it'd still require timing on the player's part. It wouldn't be super effective but with enough skill it could still be used defensively in an urban or close to medium wilderness situation.

I disagree. Archery should be viable on small and medium game up to 80 meters. You can make an improvised bow with ~45-60 lbs of pull which is plenty for short-medium range hunting. Recurve and Compound(?) Bows should be effective up to ~160 meters but it's largely dependant on skill. You could seriously injure and even kill a human up to ~60m away, hell if you're tall your stride is likely nearly a meter long. Saying that a bow should only work out to 25m it's like taking the powder out of your bullets and/or ignoring physics. It doesn't have to be amazingly accurate but I'd advocate a minimum of 80m worth of effective range with a skill floor/roof of 40-120m

The main difference I'd like to see is being able to hold 1 stack of sticks or arrows in the "bow" (Realistically the hand holding the bow) that we can reload from. I'm not sure if this was originally the case but currently I need to drag each arrow from my inventory individually. Add to the frustration the fact you can't move at all with the bow drawn so you can't ready a shot for an expected encounter - leaving you a sitting duck. It's vastly inferior and I'd like to see those improvements. Also, it's supposed to be stealthy so why the loud whistle every time you fire an arrow? The twang is fine but arrows don't necessarily whistle and when/if they do it's certainly not like someone putting two fingers in their mouth and going hard at it.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Arduras replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I played the mod for a bit, and while there's more the main thing is the attraction. Zombies often mean more players nearby and you're making your presence known. That being said, there's only 3 servers and none of them are first person only. I was a bit sad at that - there are more servers for standalone even if the game is just "who can hit NWAF and kill everyone else first" -
I look forward to FPS gains, loot distribution, and hopefully eventually Zombies..
-
Is there any hope left? Please tell there is!
Arduras replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
The Standalone may be in a bit of a "broken state" but the mod is certainly polished. There are only 3 servers for it at the moment.. and non that are FPP but it's still an option if you're in the UK or US (otherwise your ping might be nasty) It's Early Access. It's like waiting a year instead of a week for the next episode of whatever anime your in to - it's going to SUCK but the reward tastes oh so sweet. -
[GUIDE]: How to join vanilla DayZ Mod servers!

Fantastic man, thanks. I'll be rejoining the mod guys :3 -
I'd like to be able to tripwire flares - a sort of early detection system at a hospital, grocery store, anywhere really. This would be a god send to any solo survivalist looting a town. Tripwire to a car axle? what is this.. a desync bomb? Also, to reply to someone on the previous page, when in a cold climate and you sweat to cool off (in your clothes) your clothes soak it up. eventually it contributes to making you colder because it freezes / contributes to lowering your temperature even faster. It's a big worry for anyone doing more than a few hours worth of walking. I just want shotguns to be useful, a good dose of consistency would be good too (like the knives, etc)
-
I try to be friendly. More of a survivor. I won't go too far out of my way to be a hero - if someone is down and they couldn't make the hospital I'll help them but I'm not about to walk for an hour and then back an hour to help them. Sure, this means the idiot on sniper hill or basically anybody in town is probably going to be a prick and KoS because morality and such hasn't been implemented at all.. IRL I'd probably go on a zombie killing spree but I'd leave people to survive / leave them to their own devices. If someone is geared up or looks hostile I might shoot them in the leg or something, get whatever I need done and drop a morphine stick nearby on my way out. There are ways of doing things that don't revolve around KoS :/

I did a social experiment seeing if people would help a silent freshie

It's nice to know not everyone is KoS -
I've been able to use the sewing kit to patch Summer Hunting pants/jacket and stuff. my pristine leather kit can't repair any clothing items though. I haven't found a pair of black gloves and my beige working gloves are still pristine.

Reloading WIP: Uncocked hammers don't click

-- my bad someone can delete this post. Somehow managed to type up a post for the wrong topic. That's what I get for having so many tabs open, lol.. -- -
Has anyone had a chance to do proper testing of the bow in the 0.59? I've heard it's useless now :(
-
Anyone else having sound issues? I'm using the Corsair Raptor HS40 headset (USB version) and unlike any other game, DayZ's zombie sounds aren't positional. Like, I'll hear a zombie, turn - and the sound turns with me. If I don't turn at all the sound comes from the zombie (afai can tell) but if I turn the sound doesn't update at ALL it just plays- from the exact same direction/intensity regardless of where the zombie it originated from is.

A bow in real life? Odds are you'd be able to hold a few arrows in your hand and shoot a few quickly - barring that at least keep them in an accessible area like where your water bottle would go in your backpack. I'm not saying it's totally practical to load from a hotbar, perhaps add a quiver item to allow for an R reload or something. At any rate, the hotbar was a nice compromise/solution. Nobody has time to sift through their whole inventory for an arrow each shot - the hotbar representing reaching to an accessible place reflexively and grabbing an arrow.

Cooking pots appear as empty vessels and can't be picked up - only emptied.. I ate a can of tactical bacon and it didn't drop any empty tin can or put one in my inv - not sure how else to boil water lol..
