Standalone: Why be excited about Arma 3 engine?

It makes no sense what so ever for BI to continue to support this old engine when the new one is available now. Why support two platforms and sink more money into an outdated engine when you could just run a more efficient one abd improve it as you go? Like it or not, rv3 is going to rest sooner or later. This thread is somewhat pointless by now... -

I laugh at all those saying stand alone was going to be on the old engine we have now. It was obvious... More cost effective too. Now wait for the trolls: "this looks too pretty, I like clunky animations of the old engine, it looked more fitting before, etc etc." Those complaining about money- stop playing video games and go get some sticks in the yard and pretend to raid some imaginary castle... That's about the only free entertainment you're going to get. If youre an adult complaining about this, it might be time to wake up and realize you're not the only person that needs to make money. As a businessman, I say it's about time rocket cashes in... But he can cash in on a quality product he sees through much better than a flop of a game. He knows this, and is passionate. -
What would you like to see in the stand alone?

Adding to generators- maybe a city spawns generic loot (basics) and low grade weapons with the power off at the norm spawn %. However, if you get a certain sector of the city lit up using a generator, it replaces all loot in those buildings with higher grade loot that you could not get otherwise so long as the generator is fueled up. This would make you a target for players (loud generator, lights blaring, etc) zombies may spawn a lot near the lit up buildings because it pulls their attention. A lot of risk and reward here. -

Get rid of that debug monitor display Better animations that are not as clunky More interactivity with cities- using generators, locking doors (possibly), and more overgrowth More group play mechanics- radio communication and GPS locating/sharing coordinates More immersion- crashed military supply convoys make more sense than so many crashed Helios, the ability to leave notes for players to read (including dev created), overrun military quarantine outposts Improved zombies- they have to break open doors, hitting in the move, zombie life cycle as rocket mentioned, scarier looking, more numerous More maps which all have location dependent weapons. (no m4's all over a Russian map) Customization (huge): clothing like medical masks, jackets, vests, and backpacks with unique purpose behind them. Weapons should be able to be repaired and customized. Should show how the world is in ruins- flashlights should be taped to rifles, guns should look worn, etc. -

I did just that and knew this was a free mod. Rocket owes you nothing in terms of compensation for buying arma 2. You did not pay into the mod at all. I'm looking at this very kindly. I won't be mad. The hacking will never stop. Please read the forums more if you're going to make these wild accusations how this will look bad. Rocket cannot do anymore in terms of security with the mod. If I was him, I'd roll out this last patch and then devote time to standalone. Don't be selfish now- you knew this was coming. -

I'm sorry but if you're not going to be able to afford a simple 10 bux on the standalone alpha/beta (guessing the discounted price) I think it's time to either consider budgeting efficiently or getting a new job. I could still afford that when I had a part time job while paying for college. I don't see how this is going to be impossible or burdensome for someone. Games need to be paid for in order to have fun. There is no entitlement here. -

Fair enough, but I fear every gun in game. I would still be equally paranoid in town if someone had the drop on me with a cz, soI believe my opinion on balance would not detract from the game at all. Just my opinion though. Touché. -

I just believe the 1 shot kill (.50) snipers have no business here. I believe the dmr, cz (especially fitting), and others with scopes need to hit someone twice for a kill. (dependent on distance as they are now.) It's just anti immersive to me, to be paranoid that someone with a .50 cal sniper is on every hill top watching me. And everyone with it seems capable enough with said man cannon to blow off my leg (in the least) and kill me. Not many people can just pick up the .50 and fire this thing without hurting themselves. Lower caliber rifles are much more "user friendly." While I don't snipe, I do believe it's absolutely imperative it stays nonetheless. I just ask for a tad more balance to go along with this mod. (we all know dayz is suppose to be unfair, but a tad more balance should be welcomed to balance out the fact that everyone's grandma wants to be some bad ass sniper they saw in a movie.) -

Arma is not the only "realistic" engine out there. If rocket parted ways (99% he's not) I'm sure he knows better than to suddenly put it on an engine that makes no sense for the game. -
If you read patch notes, you'd notice it was already fixed. Why make servers update twice in 1 week? Some do not do well keeping up with them the first place. Keep trying to fix it if you're impatient (certainly seems that way) or just wait it out. Calm down with those caps locks- it doesn't make you look any more credible in this "debate." :) Ps- its probably you who complains there is not enough servers to play on when an update rolls out. Imagine if the hot fix rolled and then a full patch behind it? More work for server owners. Makes no sense right? You call me a moron? Funny.

You should be able to leave notes lying around

Make the ability to write notes after finding a pen and piece of paper/ trashed newspaper. It would limit how many are in the world.. Especially if you have to find paper everytime. Oh wait... Dupers... -
If people actually searched for fixes in regards to the artifacts, it would not be so game breaking. I fixed the artifacts completely by following the default video memory setting. Works like a charm. Waiting for the new content since I fixed the "game breaking" bug. I see a good number of people in major cities and the airfield still so I guess I'm not the only. My friends fixed their artifacting as well using which ever solution posted here in the forums that worked for them. Could be: video memory to default, resolution needs to be changed, etc So I say - bring in more content... I'm starting to get bored.

In a real zomb... Wait, I've seen it in Miami... Except this dude had super human strength and took multiple shots by police to go down. Maybe zombies should be modeled after this in the game.. It's the only "proven" data. If you can classify it like that. Don't believe me? Do a little research on legit news websites for the attack in Miami. Drugs are dangerous kids!! -

If I see someone looting a building.. I like to do what I call "the Shane" technique. I proceed to leg the player with a double tap to one of his knees. I then wait for zombies to begin feasting, which distracts them.., giving me plenty of time to loot everything and then escape. I don't bother shooting him while he wails on the floor either. Zeds gotta eat!! -

Watch the newer take on dawn of the dead that came out a few yrs ago, you'll prob like it then. OP- you make a great point, but the zombies are not at that level yet. No one fears them. People don't shoot them half the time because they're afraid of players, not the swarm after the shot. Zombies need to provide more of a challenge than now.. But I still agree with you 100% . Human drama makes dayZ. I've never actually ducked irl when a bullet cracked by me in a game quite like this... Or had a true Mexican stand off. -
Not everyone has the same face and PMC clothing either... Welcome the skin as a customization thing instead of a distinguishing mark... Because my money is on the fact that this won't do a damn thing to stop pvp... But at least we can get some new clothing and feel just a little bit of an impact for our actions.

I can agree with this. Jerry can spawns are fine as of now, but fuel should be way more scarce. Trust me, I know.... During hurricane season, and when one is inbound, gas is the first thing to go here... -

I believe this will be a welcomed new feature because... It's new again. Any new differentiation from the vanilla player model would be nice. Embrace the changes. Just don't hold your breath many people become friendly afterwards though. -

I'm not- I've never had this happen to me. It seems to only happen under a shock or unconscious state as punishment. The op did not mention a server restart in particular, just switching servers.
