Normally in a building for me. I did hide in woods oustside a town for a while, but I got spotted by other forrest dwellers not long after I logged in and they killed me. Odd poll choice: In a building Near a loot point (tut tut) Are they not the same thing? Are there enterable buildings that have no loot? It's obvious to log out near loot, so when you spawn back in you can get food/etc and maybe check another nearby building that is good for loot, then move on. thats mostly how I do it...don't see what is so "tut "tut" about it. It's not like I am rejoing every half hour or some thing. Normally a day or so between my play sessions.

There is also a known bug that causes Direct Chat to malfunction some times. I hope they can track it down and fix it, as i'm sure it casues a lot of confusion.

Texture Glitch. Help!
-=seany=- replied to slendercraft@yahoo.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hi and welcome to DayZ/Arma. Try going into your Arma2 folder in My Documents, open up the file: Arma2oa.cfg and change the line: AToC=x; to AToC=0; -
What to do when you come across a dead body...
-=seany=- replied to TyGuy (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
So if I die in a house in the north, due to a door killing me for example or other such glitch, is it viable to sprint the 20km or whatever to get your gear back, or would your dead body be gone by the time you got to it? -
I think they are lame too, it's "soft" cheating to me.
-
Anyone who uses these tools is really missing the point. It's a shame the people who make these things don't use their skills for some thing more productive. Its basically cheating.

Bear Traps - Why Were These a Priority?
-=seany=- replied to bennyandthejets's topic in New Player Discussion
Making more Zeds more attracted to you the more humans you kill is an interesting concept. It's hard to give a (real life) reason why this would happen though, but it is interesting. I agree there needs to be Punishment/negative affect for killing other humans....or....benefits to not killing humans. Ps you don't need to do maths to realise shoot on sight/ shoot first behaviour is rampant. On topic, I still have yet to see these bear traps. -
thoughts from a brand new player on how to make this more fun for new people
-=seany=- replied to 343guiltyspark's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why do newly spawned players go straight for the big towns on the coast? It's an instant death sentence. Just like in that 13 sec video...lol what did he expect? Handy hint: When you spawn, move inland 2- 4km and loot Farm yards.... -
How can you "try to spawn next to your friends"? That just puts you back on the coast doesn't it? Why not meet up with them inland? Are you and your friends just hanging around the coast? To me, a change like this would just facilitate the kind of people who just want to play PVP, or "CoD kiddies" as you put it. Survive and meet them as you would in real life. We need more insentive for people to stay alive not less. Still trying to figure out what "Tired of trying to spawn close to your friends?" means....

Exactly, please none of this "X gun kills in one shot so should be nerfed" bs...its based on a Military simulator, all the weapon powers have already been worked out and need no tweeking. Maybe it could be made more rare.

Some confusion here: 1. User way point- (what the op is talking about) Hold left shift and click the map once. It will appear on the map as a small circle with a dot in the middle. Once placed, It shows you a marker on the HUD that looks like a little Chevron ^ with a number underneath showing the distance to it - No one else can ever see this marker. 2. Map Marker: double click the map, use the up/ down arrows to change what type of marker it is, you can also type text into it. - Who can see these markers is dependant on what Chat channel you have active when you place is. Eg if you are set to "Direct Chat" and place a marker it will be seen by only people who are near you, just as though you where typing a chat message. However...as seen, this appears to be a bit buggy and some peoples map markers are showing up for everyone, not sure why this is happeing as we have no Global or Side Chat Channel in DayZ anymore. Anyway best to ignore these markers, and avoid using them until they work as they should, I think the User waypoint should be removed. Once you have a map it makes navigating way too easy.

Quote the line here in this thread from the change log that says they fixed a bug with the Changable skins (Ghillie Suit) causing teleporting. They had added a fix for bandit morphing and spawn problems, but the Ghille suit has been bugged since its introduction and never had a fix since as far as I can see... I just think its amusing the amount of people moaning over some thing that was known to be glitchy...even if there where "workarounds".

Why is Barbwire Infront Of All the Big Places?
-=seany=- replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why don't you just "step over" it? Even if you can't walk, the "Step Over" command still works. I have seen this barbed wire infront of buildings but it has never really stopped me entering an area, not unless standing up would have alerted zombies. -
Marks on a map 'go here'
-=seany=- replied to b.v.nieuwburg@gmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Its unusual alright. In Arma, markers appear on the map when you double click it, you can then use Up and Down arrows to change the marker type. Also, the Chat channel you are on (Direct, Group, Side etc) affects who can see it. I don't get how I can see other users markers in DayZ though as the only chat channels available now are limited to Direct and Group. Unless making a marker on Direct Chat show for everyone regardless of distance to the player? Group shouldnt work as we are all in serperate Groups. I don't believe "Syncing" occurs, not unless it's somthing special to DayZ. The reason you can see someones marker they place when you are close is the same reason you can see there Chat, Direct Channel uses the same system for Voip, Text chat and marker placment. Also, shooting at players has nothing to do with, or any affect on grouping, you are in your own group permanently for the whole game except for the first few secs when you join and you see group messages. But after this you are always in your own "group" as far as the game is concerned. -
If you care that much you shouldn't use known buggy equipment like the Ghillie Suit... Ps no probs for me with this update. A bit harder, but too early to judge.
-
-
You guys do realise that Ghillie suits where buggy before this patch right?...it is advised not to use them. It even says it in the manual/wiki, you did read the manual right?
-
Hasn't it been known forever that Ghillie suits are buggy and cause you to end up in the ocean...even before this update? I dunno why ppl are so obsessed with them. Just as a month ago...don't touch ghillie suits unless you don't care what happens to you....

Share the disappointing moments, of DayZ for you.
-=seany=- replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Came on to the forum and found a thread full of a bunch of negative Nancys...disappointed :D -
Thanks for the update looking forward to testing !

Well, you wont want to hear this but...I have so far had to restart 3 times with the current loadout of no weapon and 1 bandage and I have survived every time. You just have to be careful and take your time. 2 of the times I was attacked by zombies and was able to escape with out any weapon

Postprocess effect and motion blur?
-=seany=- replied to Henyo10's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You can not get High post effects and no Blur without using a mod ( which is out of the question for most multiplayer). This is some thing many who play Arma would like to see ( separation of post effects), so go over to the Bohemia forums and let them know. Also search Dev-heaven.net and add your vote to the appropriate bug report for this Feature Request. -
In DayZ your CPU is doing bugger all and SLI makes a big difference to Arma, especially in DayZ. DayZ happens to be one of the least CPU intensive Arma missions you can play. If you where to play Warfare, or Domination, or a mission with a view distance over 2k and masses of vehicles and AI, then you would see less advantage from SLI as your CPU would be the bottle neck. But for DayZ? SLI allows you to turn things like Postprocess and Object detail, Shadows etc to their highest settings. I'm running: gtx295 and q9650

Tools for the Stalker: Directional Mic for eves dropping on players
-=seany=- posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So I tried some thing new, stalking people. I have some binoculars and sit in a forest 500m outside a big town ( Stary Sober, Zelenogorsk, Polana etc). I wait for a survivor(s) to enter the town and just watch what they do. Maybe the get killed by a Zombie or have and epic gun fight. I can go and take there stuff when they die or just have fun watching them, knowing they have no idea they are being watched :D. So last time I was stalking, I was watching 2 guys looting buildings and killing Zs, then they went off to a Helo crash site. I could tell they where chatting by their body language. --------------------------------------------------- Suggestion: I think it would be very cool if you could pick-up some kind of Directional microphone so that when you point it a person in the distance you can hear what they are saying over Direct Chat. Eg Eves drop on their conversation. I think it would work well if it was a particular type of Binocular you could pick up that had a Directional microphone built in or something similar. ---------------------------------------------------- What do you think? Would it be hard to implement? -
Yes, Arma supports SLI. You don't need to adjust anything in Nvidia control panel for the Arma Profile. Nvidia Recommended settings works best.
