Falling damage, very unrealistic!
-=seany=- replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To Op: Stop jumping off things. Fall damage is fine. And the leg breaking mechanic is exactly as it is in Arma, it is not some thing unique to DayZ. There are situations where you break your leg that are annoying; Like lieing next to a small Fir tree, or glitching on another object like a door etc. But falling? Not really a problem. Sounds to me like your running/walking off the 2nd level in the barn instead of using the steps. Some times this will give you a broken leg, some times it wont...Have some patience, use the steps... I dont even think there is point wasting time implementing a fall animation, There really are bugger all things to fall off in Arma. -
yes, you should be able to get out. Use "Step Over" command, that is often good for getting out of traps.
-
Exaclty LOGIN, that is the way these group spawn whines should be playing...but alas they don't get it...they want it all...and NOW DAMMIT! :D Anyone who doesnt like the removal of the respawn button because they "can't meet with their friends" is completely missing the point of this game...
-
Looks interesting... When you look closer though.....What is with the scale? Are the zombies munchkins or some thing lol, perhaps verticaly challenged? Look how small they are compared to the vehicels around them....looks odd. The car the "player" is standing on is way too big too. Maybe they are all kids and it will be like DayZ mixed with the Goonies :D PEGI gonna love that
-
Once both of those; Arma2 and OA are installed together (and patched) you can play no probs.
-
Welcome To DayZ 0/ If you have Arma 2 and then bought OA and installed it, technically you now have Combined Operations, so you should be good to go!.

Jam a guitar pick between the keys, works for me :)

It's no longer surprising to me how scared other devs are at changing things/breaking the mould...the amount of whiners that surface when Rocket simply wants to test a new idea is unbelievable. The latest changes sound good. Being able to respawn with a fracture I guess is ok, still I would have left it full hardcore.....It can always be changed later if it doent work out...Plus how can you know how anything will be if it gets shot down and compromised before it even gets a chance to see daylight....? You whiners need to listen to some of Rocket's Interviews to get your head straight on how this test for a future game works.

^ exactly, not much noise out of the douche bag now is there? :D Given the upcoming DayZ patch, I would guess Rocket will add a fix for this. Anyone tested if Axes are still one hit?
-
I don't understand this...please explain how removing the respawn button removes your ability to meet and play with friends.? Its a survival game....so...what are you doing all suiciding a heap of times to get to the coast? Meet up in the map away from the coast like you would in real life.....it really doesnt take that long... I, for one, am glad to see respawn removed. It will be interesting to see how it affects the game.

No Respawn button now? /sigh
-=seany=- replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What I dont get is the argument against this is: "it will be difficult to meet my friends"...urr what? Its a survival game. Unless your playing the game like a death match, I dont see how killing your self and going back to the coast can help you meet your friends.....How about play the game properly instead of death matching on the coast. Also, it takes a max of 30 minutes to cross the map to meet other people.... +1 for removing respawn -
Need helping setting graphics lower then allowed.
-=seany=- replied to khaosfaction's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
That looks ok. You could try setting GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; to =1; . Probably wont make much diff though. New PC time I guess! If you do end up using FSAA make sure you set AToC=0; -

Are you sure that is not Arma2.cfg? You are missing several settings there ^. Turn off in game Antialiasing, even on Low in Arma it can cost 5fps or more. You could try shadows on High as when they are set lower than High they are rendered on the CPU. On High or above they are rendered by the GPU. Set your render, or 3D resolution to the same size as your screen resolution. This just helps appearence, the settings you have there look kind of screwy. Eg: odd dimensions. -
If your using Vista or windows 7, It wont matter. MS did away with EAX and HW Accel. ( I guess you could use Alchamey) But anyway, those settigns will do nothing at 1 or 0 as Arma doesn't use HW accel or EAX. I'm not sure if arma mght be usign OpenAL these days.

Third person vs First person view
-=seany=- replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Third person should be optional. I use it quite alot. I wouldnt mind Crosshairs, or name tags or that "peripheral view" helper being removed as default. It think it would be a good move. I find 1st person Arma too claustrophobic to use it 100% of the time. I often move from point A to point B in 3rd person and then when Im about to enter combat or check for loot I'll go to 1st person. -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
-=seany=- replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I broke my leg so I crawled 3km into Berez to get some morphine. I didnt see one person, I think there may have been a spawner around though, in the supermarket. I just smashed and grabbed some morphine and legged it. Is Berezino the last area on the East coast where players spawn, or can you spawn any where along the east coast? I never seem to spawn there. -
I have to use mouse smoothing or I get a lot of Jitter with it on 0. With mouse smoothing it feels ok though. I also have Vsync Off, maybe try that? Even though I hate " Screen tearing" in games, the stutter/input problems that Vsync cause make me turn it off in Arma.

Yeah broken bone is too hard to fix atm. We should be able to use wood and make a splint that could at least get you moving while standing at a reduced speed. My last game ended with me lieing next to a Fir tree and instantly got a broken leg. Looks like I'll be on an epic crawling mission for the next while. :) I had heard about that bug, but that is the first time it has happend to me, I have been lieing under fir trees for many times up to this...now I am going to be very paranoid of trees. I have found Morphine in the small, 2 room garage building before. http://picacid.com/a...rkshop01_04.jpg <- I think it was like that

There's too much wind in Chernarus...and it's not just the Beans.
-=seany=- replied to Blackadder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
the ambient wind noise can be a bit loud compared to everything else some times, I agree. Same with the Ocean, I feel you can hear it from too far away. It sounds like a motor way in the distance when you are 4km from the coast. -
Zeds should not move in players general direction until detected
-=seany=- replied to a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It never really gets me killed, but I do agree that it seems a bit of a cheap trick to make the game harder. It does spoil some imersion for me also. I understand why it is in the game and it is a pretty clever mechanic, to make the game harder and make it feel as though there are more Zeds than there actually are. Maybe if 2 in every 5 zeds (for example) did this it wouldn't seem so obvious. -
Why You Should Turn Shadows Off When Playing DayZ
-=seany=- replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
not if you turn them off though :) PS, Id expect them to be locked at High, with the ability to go to very high if you wanted. But yes, Shadows on a setting lower than High will render them on the CPU. -
Why You Should Turn Shadows Off When Playing DayZ
-=seany=- replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I guess these kind of "Tips" are why BIS had to implement limits to the "Gamma" and "Brightness" controls in a recent Beta version. I never got the point of making my game look worse just to get a lame advantage. I hope they lock shadows on...only thing is, that will hurt people with lower specs PCs who actually need to turn them off. -
Yes, use Direct Channel. The keys are "," comma and "." Fullstop. Once the Chat Dialogue is open you can also use the Cursor keys to change channel.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
-=seany=- replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES to this type of mechanic, unsure if this is what is needed. I do think there needs to be more negatives for Player killing. How would idenfiable survivors work, I have wondered? Eg a mechanic that makes players who have survied a long time without Player killing recognisable as trust worthy.
