Its mainly for asthetics. If you use a 3d res lower than the Display res it can look pretty bad with no real boost in performance. However, if your on very low end hardware you might not have a choice but to try a lower 3d res to get some more FPS. I wouldnt think there would be much point though.

The first option in this list is it? http://wiki.zspecial...iculty_Settings I doubt many DayZ servers have that on. I tend to avoid "Recruit" servers, never too many in the server list either. It looks like it's only available if you choose recruit setting too, I dont think it is on for Regular or Expert. I feel it's an extra setting for new players who are learning the game/ having probs with the campaign.

Can you explain this a bit more? This is news to me. Afaik difficulty setting has no affect on how easy it is to kill some one. is it a DayZ server parameter?

You guys need to stop thinking/saying it will be on the "Arma# engine". it will be on the RV(Real Virtuality) engine, that is the name of the engine that BIS develops. It is used for many things: VBS - Virtual battle space = training system for and used by military forces around the world. Take On Helicopters = A helicopter Flight "sim" Arma = this one I think we all know :) You have to remember that many of the "bugs" and problems that are in DayZ right now are caused by the Arma engine...but that is only because they are making Arma do things it was never intended to do. Just because it is now using the same base engine for a stand alone game doesn't mean the same problems will remain. They will be starting from scratch as far a mechanics and features go and will be very easily able to make things work as they should, as they can change the core mechanics at will. They will use what ever features from the latest RV engine that will be appropriate for DayZ now can we please stop talking about the "ArmaX engine" and start talking about the RV engine..... To me it was a no brainer to go with BIS and use the Real Virtuality engine, The main reason for this being Terrain size. No other engine can provide this experience or scale. -

Are you new here? It's not a hack it's a bug with the Arma engine/ multiplayer and vehicle wrecks. It is fixable and I'm sure will be fixed in the next release or two. -
eh? You think it makes no sense to not have an start weapon...but you think if we are going to have to live with no start weapon then they should remove every start item..ok . I actually wouldnt mind trying this, might be fun. But it's an odd statment for some one who wants a start weapon to make. Also, you should look up the definition of trolling. It doesnt mean people who have a different opinion to you. I havent seen one trolling this thread, just rational converstaion. Why cant you just crawl around to find a weapon (axe)? How are you getting a hoard chasing you straight after a fresh spawn? If you use prone and have some patience you wont alert ( "agro") any Zombies. What do you mean by "deter hostiles"? Zs don't care if your armed or not...they just attack if you alert them...you can't really "deter" them. The only thing you could possibly "deter" are humans. But, actually they will be more likely to shoot you if your armed.. so in that respect having a weapon is even more likely to get you killed.

i was a new player once and I liked the trail and error. Its a satisfying feeling to figure some thing out. I think that is part of why people like DayZ so much. You get more reward for usign your noodle. Big game devs have made it so we are all just spoon fed and "tutuorialed" and babysat through the first level of every game. Oh, but you are armed, with the most dangerous weapon of all ...THE HUMAN MIND! now use it :)

its rdiculously easy to find a hatchet...whats the problem? I died and respawned last time and found a total of 4! hatchets in the buildings nearest me. you don't need to start with a weapon. It's possilbe to enter a town, using crouch and mostly prone, with no weapon and avoid all Zs. I don't see why people find it so hard. Zombies walking in buildings is also not a bug.

You should start with no weapon, it's not hard to find an axe. Besides, it's some thing "else" to do. All too soon the newbies who think it's too hard will figure out how to play and how to avoid Zs and survive. Then, when you die in a weeks time, you will appreciate the added challenge of having to find a weapon when you spawn. Arguably this game is most fun when you find it hardest and are just starting out with every thing new. i only wish I had not been a long time Arma player berfore Dayz, then Chernarus would be really cool to explore as brand new during the Zombie appocalypse! Why can't games be hard any more?

"Display Driver AMD Stopped Responding Has Successfully Recovered" Only on Arma 2

To the Op and any one else with a similar problem. (Sorry Zarlak your prob sounds worse, I don't think this is of use to you) Have you tried just waiting? This has been a long time bug for me with Arma ( Nvidia here). What happens is this: 1. Game screen freezes. 2. Screen goes black (For up to 1 minute maybe a bit more even) (heavy Harddisk activity) 3. Sometimes goes to desktop for a second 4. Screen goes black again and "Receiveing" appears on screen and after a moment the game returns to normal. 5. When I have finished my play session and exit Arma I see the message "Display driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" If I was to intervene and try to Alt tab or Ctrl Alt Del t durign the above, the game will fully crash and not come back. Try waiting to see what happens. It might recover on it's own like mine does. PS I recommend Vid memory set to Default. -

Exactly. There are loads of really great Arma2 custom maps made by the community. DayZ happens to be easily ported to different maps. Some one jumped the gun and ported DayZ accross unofficialy. Rocket has stated that he would like to get DayZ working on some of the other good Arma2 maps/islands. My guess is he is wating until most of the main bugs are fixed, and main features are in place before he goes ahead and adds support *officially* for these 3rd party islands. If your a DayZ fan I would suggest supporting Rocket and not use these unofficial Lingor servers. We will get these islands eventually. -

Shadows are the only option afaik that switch between GPU and CPU depending on High(GPU) or Normal(CPU) setting. -

Why are you trying to fly a helicopter from out side view? -
Be aware that in arma the Sever's FPS can dictate the FPS of the Client. Eg if the server is running like crap your game will run like crap too.

Post here if Game is unplayable for you due to Low FPS

Are you guys with low FPS than before always playing in the same server or do you use different servers? Server performance has a massive affect on clients, eg it actually dictates how high your FPS can go. If the server is struggling and only gettting 25-30 FPS (due to loads of objects on the map and players etc), all clients will also be limited to this FPS. I find when your havign FPS problems with arma the best thing you can do to figure out what is going on is use the editor. Make a very simple scenario where you are in a forrest (away from towns) and one where you are in a city (Cherno). Save and keep them for the future. This will give you one area that is GPU limiting (Forrest) and one that is CPU limiting (City). Take note of your FPS and use this as a reference when you suddenly get these wierd perf drops after a patch etc. Also, these problems are Arma problems, you should go over to BIS's forums and make posts explaining that you are getting worse performance. -
Click Start, find "Run" click it and type in dxdiag, tell us what it says next to Operating system and Processor. Click the "Display" tab at the top and tell us what it says next to "Name".

Hello, welcome to DayZ/Arma It becomes laggy when you get near big towns as the buildings in Arma take up quite a bit of CPU usage. Unfortunatly there is not much you can do other than turn Object and Terrain Detail down to it's lowest. The best advice is ignore those big towns and head out into the wilderness and attack farm yards, small towns and Deer stands. Out in these areas it is you GPU that is being used more heavily while the CPU gets a bit of a rest :) . If you want more advice, post your PC specs and your Arma2oa.cfg (found in MyDocuments/Arma2/)
