Shooting everything you see isn't realistic...
Valec replied to MperorM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion

I think this post tries to solve the 'problem' in all the wrong ways. Instead of providing a penalty to people who kill, wouldn't it make more sense to provide a reward for NOT doing it? Instead of restricting other people's play styles, provide a positive reason for them to play differently, while leaving them the option. I'm not sure what you could do in this regard, however, I still believe penalizing people for PVPing in a game with PVP is just inappropriate. Not to mention you could exploit that in all sorts of delicious ways, such as shooting somebody once with a mak(or even shooting near them and not hitting them), which will most certainly cause them to shoot back and kill you, thus receiving penalties only for what they saw as defending themselves.

but PVP isn't or shouldn't be the main focus in dayz which saddly it is, also I do which karma does bite all the "hardcore" bandits in the ass when some hacker comes along uses their guid and gets it banned. and you know what I wouldn't die in a real apoc because of my friendlyness, most likely I'd be in a guard post and be over run by zeds at the dawn of the out break. You're such a piece of shit. "Wah wah wah, I hate bandits.. I hope a hacker gets them banned!". Are you fucking kidding me? You're a pathetic carebear, you have no idea how to play this game, and you should quit. I sincerely hope they make this game even MORE pro-bandit, so I can hear you whine more, because everybody would like a cup full of your tears. You would die in the real apoc. Because i'd kill you. You whiney little bitch. I love these "intellectuals" that assume people cannot be trusted before any sort of communication takes place thus perpetuating the ignorant opinion that everything must die. What I find even more humorous is the hardcore leet pvp crowd insulting people willing to help/work with others and be accused of not knowing how to play the game. To those guilty of this you clearly dont get it. In regards to the OP this is an inherent issue that emerges when game design does not have a precise consequence/reward system in place to guide player behavior. In DayZ there is zero consequence for killing fellow survivors therefore "why try" is the attitude most players have adopted. Besides you want to keep your stuff and you always want more stuff! why work hard for it? why work with others and have to share it when Its easier to be selfish? Besides its funny killing people that are no threat to you and proclaiming yourself amazing! The players that simply accept the current design are the ones that feel everyone else should conform to it and accept it or "deal with it" However, players of a certain intellect are questioning the game design as it is clearly creating a massive divide in the community... if you can even call it a community at this point lets be honest. What confuses me is that I see a lot of work being put into zombie ai and balancing focused around the fresh spawn experience. I have seen no strides taken to curtail the rampant murdering and general lack of cooperation. The "what would you do in real life" scenario is quite old and void of any merit quite honestly. Its an excuse that is used to rationalize behavior that would otherwise be considered unacceptable. Its a game that people have invested their money in and want to be entertained, survivors and bandits alike. A lot of the new players to the mod seem to think the main focus of the game is gear up by exploiting poorly implemented loot mechanics and go kill everything that moves no questions asked. If you question that you wrong! Would you buy a game like that if you saw it on a store shelf? Im sure a great deal of us were brought here by watching gameplays on youtube of the survival experience (I know I was). Had I instead seen gameplay of new spawn/ poorly geared players being shot for lols aka actual gameplay, I would have kept my $30 in my pocket as Im sure quite a few others would have as well. /myopinion This is a really nice story except for it's not the 'hardcore leet pvping crowd' that's slinging insults. It's every person who's been killed complaining they got killed in a PVP game and insulting those who do. Do you really think I have any need to insult people because they don't play the way I do? No, I return insults because I am being insulted for how I play. I love pseudo-intellectuals who try to come off as intelligent, fill their posts with insults towards different playstyles, call game mechanics flawed because they don't suit their playstyle, then call it an opinion. People like you are the reason the 'hardcore leet pvping crowd' is filled with vitriol. You don't get verbally assaulted for trying to be happy little cooperative bandit fodder. People who kill people are routinely insulted because people like you cannot handle losing your gear. You assume your high horse because you're not killing people. That's fine for you, but there's nothing wrong with those of us who do kill strangers on sight. Don't ever forget it. -

He has a point though, if you want to go for a realistic experience, the deathmatching is bullshit. As is the circumventing of permadeath with tents and/or vehicles. It all depends on what you like the game to deliver in the end. Besides, there is no way to suck at dayZ, since there is little skill involved. You only need to get used to the controls and be patient enough to avoid risks and you can get everything you want. Its great though, since I finally have something to play with my RL friends who would never put in the practice time needed for competitive gaming. The controls are glitched in a way that real competition would be hardly possible anyway. You'll probably rather see Angry Birds played at WCG before they even think about picking up Dayz or Arma. It's only bullshit because you call it deathmatching. That's fine if you see it that way, but it's not anything like a deathmatch. It's about survival, not score. If I kill you, you won't kill me, thus i've increased my chances of survival. It's very simple logic. Not killing you drastically increases my chances of dying to you. Killing you reduces that chance to %0. So does killing me at 500m plus when I'm not aware of you increase you chance of survival if i'm going away from you? Yes. Because I have absolutely no idea where you will end up. I don't know for sure that you aren't aware of me. You could very well be trying to circle around behind me for the kill. There's a lot of uncertainty, and I don't like uncertainty that I can avoid. -

Guess what' date=' these threads will continue, if you are able to think logically even for a slightest bit, you would understand why. [/quote'] Oh this is wonderful. First of all just because you are going to bitch about something because you suck at arma two and cant seem to kill someone with your little axe because thats all you find that isnt our problem. Dont come to forums to bitch about it. He has a point though, if you want to go for a realistic experience, the deathmatching is bullshit. Not really. You obviously didn't read the thread. So fuck off. Nobody likes a hypocrite. I'm not crying but I guess my tone didn't come off the way i wanted it to, I do hope karma bite bandits in the ass, but I wouldn't want someone to get banned because that would be bad. It had nothing to do with your tone. It had to do with the fact that you said hoped some hacker uses bandit's guid and get it banned. You were quite specific. Don't backpedal now, it's all here in the thread. your right I was specific because I couldn't think of any other way that would be a fitting for all the grief they may have caused. I guess I just thought that Dayz would be a real zombie apoc sim instead of a glorifed deathmatch with zeds and survival elements. Obviously we disagree on what a zombie apocalypse sim entails. I personally believe that zombies are really just the background in the apocalypse. An environmental factor, if you will. I've always felt in most of the good zombie movies and such, how humans behave is what is really interesting. I've always believed that in such an occasion, zombies are not the greatest threat to man, man is. This is how I play DayZ. This is how I believe I would behave in the real apocalypse. Gather some close friends and do your best to survive. Trust nobody you haven't known before the apocalypse, and maybe not even those you have. -

Consider this, OP. Currently in game, I have an Alice Pack, G-17, DMR, and an AS50 in my pack im hanging onto until I can get ammo. Why would I kill you, an unarmed survivor? Because I still don't have a damned compass. PLEASE have a compass on you!

Bullshit. There are no rules other than the game mechanics. Why would anyone care for some pseudo-ethics that griefers make up? If you wanna stop playing a videogame, you do so. Anyone who seriously has a problem with that should get a grip on reality. People aren't griefers just because they don't play the game the way you want them to. Stop being such a fucking carebear. There's a reason that term is thrown around so much on these forums. There are so many carebears it's ridiculous. How you could play a game where you are EXPECTED to die at some point and then complain when it happens in a fashion you didn't want? You guys won't be happy until players can't kill each other at all, and then people will find other ways of doing it(not that they haven't already; hello tin can! Hello horde of zombies investigating tin can!). -

I'm sorry, but what do you think the apocalypse would be? Everyone holding hands to rebuild everything? That's so incredibly naive and flat out wrong. If the world should ever end, I know what category of people you would fall under, and it's not 'survivor'. In a world where resources are scarce, you should be wary of everyone. You should ASSUME anyone you run into can be hostile because they will have the same thought you should have. They might have something you need. At the end of the day, those who will survive are the ones who acknowledge their own survival is far, far more important than yours. -

I sincerely doubt Rocket has any plans that will satisfy you. Removing murder count from the debug monitor won't change the way I play at all. If I see you, i'll kill you. It has nothing to do with a 'score'. It has to do with the fact that if I kill you, you can't kill me. Solving the problem before it even starts. If you really think that Rocket wants to 'patch out' that level of paranoia then I wonder what reason you really even play this game for. -

There is probably a reason why there are so many threads about it... I don't die to people' date=' but I am tired of killing everyone I meet because I have no choice. If this was real life you wouldn't be killing everyone you meet. [/quote'] Actually you're quite wrong. I run with a group of people and I shoot strangers on sight. Just like I would in the apocalypse. Nobody can be trusted and if I can't trust you then i'm going to kill you. It's all very simple. I don't care if you like it. I know if I don't kill you, there's a really high chance I will regret it because you will kill me. Personally, I don't roll the dice. Better to be vilified than dead. -
I want to spawn in a hospital with absolutely nothing and my muscles atrophying from the coma i've been in for the past 6 months. Then I want to go outside and yell "Hello!" at the top of my lungs a dozen times.

That's not an opinion, that's a fact. You've added nothing. Good work. Of course, the zombies appear to melee, so.. what the engine supports in this regard is irrelevant and it's clear that Rocket could find a clever way of doing it if he so chose.

I think something like that video of the soldier smashing a civilian with an RPG was a perfect example of how to do it right, except maybe have that animation lock the zombies animation as well. In any zombie movie/book, capable survivors are able to handle a single zombie with a melee weapon, be it a screwdriver, hatchet, or even a rock. In the good movies, it's never quick, is often noisy. So a long, noisy 'attack' against a single zombie being 'melee' would really be nice, especially since we start with no weapons or ammo. If the only option is to add an actual melee weapon that you swing like most games, then i'd pass. I wouldn't want something a patient person could methodically use to clear an entire group of zombies.
