Why Does Everyone Complain About Being Killed
Valec replied to seemingepic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This. Not this. This is not Skyrim. You are not the hero who is meant to save the world. This is DayZ. You are attempting to survive verse INSURMOUNTABLE odds. Your goal, ultimately, is impossible. Yet for some reason, knowing that survival is a very limited thing, people still get butthurt over dying. -
No, it isn't. It's pretty much a given that you will always be killed by other players. Working as intended. Just because you're raging doesn't mean the game is going to be changed for you.
-
I find it all pretty funny, personally. I rarely get killed by other players, though thats usually the cause of my death when I do die. Random shot from who knows where and i'm dead. It was also my own fault that it happened. I did something stupid and it resulted in my and my friend's death. This means I didn't see the shooter, or else i'd have shot him already, because we know what happens when you don't. Don't we? By now? Seriously? If you behave like zombies are the only threat then you will die to other threats(players). If you respect the fact that there are players out there and that they will kill you, you'll live much longer. Don't run across the NW Airfield(I don't care how many people are on the server unless it's just you). Don't go through Cherno/Elektro and expect to be safe. These are activities you should only consider if you have nothing to lose. The reason for this is the odds of you dying attempting them are VERY high. In cherno/elektro, you'll get makaroved/winchestered/doublebarreled. In the airfield, you'll get sniped by a high end military sniper. Again, these things are entirely avoidable. If anything, you have to go out of your way to experience them. There are just so many other places you can go, but for some reason, people gravitate to these places and then complain when somebody else shoots them. If you don't want to risk dying, don't go to these places. If you aren't going to play smart, don't go to these places. The only real problem this game has is people being afraid to die in a video game. Even though it's quite clear that death is a fact of DayZ. It will happen to everybody at some point, no matter how good or bad their gear is. Don't get attached to your equipment. Don't play stupidly. Then you'll start having fun.

Stop saying deathmatch. It makes you look stupid every time you do it.

That you'd actually compare people playing within the acceptable framework of the game to hackers, and somehow call hackers the lesser problem(even though they are doing everything bandits are doing and hacking on top of it) pretty much says everything we need to know about you. You clearly do not think in any rational way. You cannot handle being killed and you want somebody to fix it for you, instead of you simply playing more intelligently. I can see why somebody else mocked you for creating another thread. Apparently this is your style, so to speak? In the future, I think it's safe to say most people, even those who despise bandits, should ignore just about anything you say. And here you are, insisting on understanding the motivations of every player that has killed you. Oh, someone just shot you. Must be a CoD kiddie! Honestly, the way people act in regards to player killing is ridiculous. It's a part of the game and it always will be. Every post I see like yours actually makes me want to go find a hill on the coast and simply murder everyone who doesn't have a weapon just on the remote possibility one of these people might be you.

Unless we get flags/effects for murder, this game will just be Deathmatch.
Valec replied to PinkTaco24's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Uh, in real life, the zombies would become less? You really think the fraction of remaining survivors would honestly be able to put a dent in the population of zombies? That's one of the most absurd things i've ever heard. The rewards for teamwork would be much in real life as they are in DayZ. Standard benefits for being with a group of people with all the cons that go with it. -
Herp derp deathmatch herp derp. As soon as you can figure out how to prevent the zombies from attacking you while you deathmatch safely, don't call it 'deathmatching'. It's stupid and you sound stupid saying it.

About the games i need to make this mod work
Valec replied to shikuh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Should work fine. I used the amazon digital download for CO which is really just regular arma 2 digital and operation arrowhead digital. Works just fine, just remember to install to your Arma2 directory. -

30-40segs is what other games use, so DayZ should also uses 30-40segs. Errr not the biggest bro. THe biggest is definetly ppl hopping from one server to another, then comes things desappearing from your tent/car, then FPS and servers stability. But I think adding a timer should be easy. 30-40 secs is what other games use? Yeah, MMORPGs. Games without permadeath. Games that aren't like DayZ. Please don't push for something because it works in other dissimilar games. Just because it worked for those games does not mean it's the right solution for DayZ. But we all agree something has to be done. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
Valec replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love how anyone that acknowledges the grim reality of human(see: animal) nature is a psychopath. Once again, you only have to look at any time or place in human history(or present) where law and government are broken down to see exactly what would happen. Nobody wants to do that though. -
Why Proper Realism Can Never Be Achieved In Day Z

I'd be happy to see a fix for disconnecting players, it's obnoxious as hell. However, a 30 second delay on quitting doesn't seem like a good answer. Causing instant death when you're disconnected is the absolute WRONG answer. Also, people, stop assuming because YOUR electricity and internet somehow never have outages(a blatant lie, anybody who has said it) that it's the same for everyone else. My internet has at least one 5-10 minute outage a week, and I have no idea when it will happen. I know Rocket experimented with keeping player characters in the world for so many minutes after logging, but he reverted that due to issues related to it(I don't recall what). It seems like a tricky issue and you don't want to cause players who aren't trying to cheat their way out of death to log back in to suddenly discover that they died after they had quit while presumably safe. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
Valec replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Most of what people against shooting on sight have to say about people shooting on sight is exactly why they would be those who are shot on sight. You guys are all correct. People will band together. Some will band together and try to rebuild some semblance of a normal life. You guys are right about that. However you ignore the fact that there would, in fact, be plenty of roving 'bandit' type groups as well. Stop comparing a total apocalypse to natural disasters. They aren't comparable. Society will never return to normal and this is going to be a factor on how people behave. Just take a look at any place in the world RIGHT NOW where law and government has completely broken down. Look at Africa. Look at Somalia. Hell, look at Mexico, where they still have a government(that's completely overwhelmed by the cartels). Explain to me why you think a total apocalypse would somehow bring out the greater good in people. How would living in a world with absolutely no hope create this situation where everyone thinks 'hey, let's rebuild. sure, this zombie apocalypse is still happening and will never end, but let's all be nice guys together!' It's ridiculous. The strong WILL prey on the weak in any situation resembling an apocalypse. -

I'm right, you're wrong. The foolishly optimistic are the first to die in the apocalypse, zombie or otherwise. You can argue with that if you want, but it will be a very stupid argument. -
Shooting everything you see isn't realistic...
Valec replied to MperorM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem I see here is that we assume most of the population is dead, which leaves few left to even imagine researching a cure, and even fewer functional facilities to do it in, never mind actually producing a cure in significant quantities. With the black plague, the infected didn't go around trying to kill everyone who wasn't infected. That's why the idea of the zombie apocalypse is so scary. You are horribly outnumbered, hunted on sight by infected, and constantly running out of supplies. I don't see any scenario in which humanity comes out on top, short of preventing the spread of the infection in the very beginning. Once it's worldwide, it's pretty much game over. -
Was the game better or worse with bandit skin?
Valec replied to zalman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe it does need some adjusting, however I think penalizing bandits is the wrong way to go with it. It'd be more appropriate, in my opinion, to give survivors incentive to cooperate and not murder. I'm not sure what within the game mechanics would be possible. At the end of the day, killing bandits is part of the game, so you also don't want to stop people from killing each other altogether. I'll be honest, even with the bandit skin, I was playing with friends and shooting strangers on sight. I'll be honest, I survived considerably longer this way, as doing otherwise has gotten me killed. Now I don't hesitate, and I doubt any changes to the game will make me hesitate. -

Valec replied to zalman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is a survival sim, yes. But there is no 'winning the game'. You will eventually die to something and i'm pretty sure this is fairly intentional. It's more about how long you can survive. So in this case, it really is a 'prepare to die' sim, because there is no end to it. Every life in DayZ ends this way, and nobody lives forever in DayZ. -

Did you really just type that? "You need to wake up." Are you watching a Steven Seagal movie right now? Did you get your training with the Green Berets or from Zombie Survival 101 at your local community college? I know for a fact a zombie apocalypse would be a very orderly world with a very dull & predictable "enemy." It would bring communities back together, like most disasters, but more-so. I would like you to show me a place Rocket says this is a PvP game. It has PvP aspects. It also has PvE aspects. There are far more survivors than Bandits. The front page suggests zombies & bandits are to be slain, but hunting survivors is not mentioned anywhere. Interesting promotion for "a PvP game." Also, it seems odd how much attention they spend on developing the zombies, when--if this is a PvP game--they are merely an annoyance. I like the mentally fucked-up PvP. I like the slow PvE more. I think a good responsive mixture is critical for success. You clearly know nothing of human nature and thus, are not qualified to have this discussion. I can't believe you'd destroy your own argument there so easily, too. "There are far more survivors than Bandits. The front page suggests zombies & bandits are to be slain, but hunting survivors is not mentioned anywhere. Interesting promotion for "a PvP game." " Just legendary how badly you did that. So, zombies and bandits are to be slain. Still with me? If it's not a PVP game, pray tell where you are going to find these bandits? So, it very clearly and unarguably is, in fact, a PVP game. Next time, take a deep breath, and re-read what you're typing before you click "post reply". Don't defeat your own argument before I get a crack at it. -
