the game sure needs something like this. i honestly haven't seen any major changes or additions since i started playing the alpha a few months ago, and the game is getting pretty stale. i think this actually is a realistic option if you think about it. humans are creatures of comfort, we wouldn't just abandon that if an apocalypse happened. with time video games would be highly sought after. i like this suggestion but as you said, you should need a number of rare individual parts, such as: the generator and fuel, a television set, power cables, av cables, a controller and the console (all found separately), and i like the idea of making popular games very rare. it would to some extent simulate the real world. a popular xbox/ps3 game would be common at first, but as it gets looted it would become harder to find. i don't understand why even haters are hating at this. it would be a sweet way to bring immersion and authenticity to game.

How to Encourage PvP (in a healthy way)

I'm gonna bump this, I think it makes sense. -
hells yeah, i'd love to see my game inside dayz!!! this mechanic certainly wouldn't take away anything, and i can see what you mean about improving long term goals, though, i haven't got too far :S here's some beans!

anyone saying night doesn't need to be fixed needs to stop trying to sound hardcore.. i grew up in the country away from light pollution etc. even on a cloudy, moonless night with all the lights off in the house, your eyes still adjust to an acceptable level of visibility. not funkin pitch black

Make the old bandit skin a find-able item

wicked idea -
The topics I would like to discuss here are sort of interconnected so I will just take one post. As they progress we may need to split into other threads but we'll see what happens. NPCs & Random Instances It would be cool if there was the possibility of seeing survivor NPCs. Though this would be a rare event, they may come up to you saying they know you (or whatever), they may stay quiet and seem like any other player, until they ask you for help, or offer help, or they may be a threat. Perhaps this could then lead to being given a car or a weapon as a reward, or some sh*t/semi-decent loot if you choose to kill, or they try to kill you. As an even rarer reward perhaps you could get something like a car. Just to bump another great post on NPCs; http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=12415&highlight=NPC Safe Zone I was thinking, it could be cool to have an isolated safe zone controlled by a military force (or something) which could be used as a hub for trade, chat etc. EDIT: Though a safe zone, it would be good if even that was randomly over-run by zombies This area could be protected by the military in that any person that fires a shot gets taken out. Same goes for the surrounding areas, via a sniper team, to prevent people trailing others as they leave simply to kill them for loot. This adds the risk of being chased though which I think could be really cool. Having a safe zone raises the possibility of having a safe house for yourself. Say you have one house to yourself, no one else can access that house, unless they have the keys or whatever to get in. This still leaves the possibility of your stuff being stolen, though you can steal theirs too as long as you hold the keys. Depending perhaps on frequency would determine whether houses are server-wide or server-specific. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are tons of great ways NPCs and Safe Zones could be implemented into the game and I would love to see your ideas and your constructive criticisms. I'm aware of the limitations within designing a mod, I am just trying to spark conversation so we can raise some well thought out points for Rocket and the Dev Team to consider implementing into the official release of DayZ. Happy hunting, Willu

Sounds good man.. I like the idea of needing multiple bandages too. -
Suggest: Extend unconsciousness before death
DeanBandit2450 replied to integ3r's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think this concept could work, but I would rather see it based on the severity of the wounds/how fast you are actually bleeding out etc., I would not however like to see this implemented only to make the game easier in that respect. -
How about a Bow and Arrows?
DeanBandit2450 replied to heretic (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Senrain, how about yes? =S If you don't want one, don't take it! +1 OP! -
Just had a thought, and wanted to hear other opinions; It's early morning. You're in a village/city in the middle of a lightning storm, and your sneaking past a zombie. Lightning flashes, and with the zombie just in earshot to your right, you use the cover of thunder to dash for a door. First of all, I haven't actually observed whether lightning already affects things like this, but in subtle ways, it could be cool. Here, the intensity of the thunder would obviously affect the zombies hearing, though I think you should never be completely silent. Players still hear you just as well as they can..

How about just remove the respawn option all together? It's completely unnecessary.

Whatever the answer is to not being able to instantly retrieve your own loot is a good answer. Perhaps it would be possible that if you get any of your old items, they are just destroyed or something. Items seem to be pretty easy to destroy items anyway... Ps. Absolutely love how everyone is so quick to reject good ideas by sounding hardcore when the idea itself actually makes the game harder. Good job society.

NPCs, Instances & a Safe Zone
DeanBandit2450 replied to DeanBandit2450's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, right, and I was supposed to gain what from it exactly? -
just wanted to throw the idea out there of having random start gear. it would have to based on percentages, for certain gear only, same as loot piles. perhaps there could be a percentage chance for the number of items you receive too.

Can't be constructive Nate? Just trying put out some suggestions to make the game real.. Whether what I said took place or not, there still needs to be a penalty for respawning.. As if enough people don't already do that anyway!

NPCs, Instances & a Safe Zone
DeanBandit2450 replied to DeanBandit2450's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Neiionyc, howtf does NPCs that can talk to you at the most basic level, or anything I've said, imply even slightly that I want an mmorpg? I'm literally talking like, someone runs into the building you're in, pulling a couple zombies, if you save them, they might say thanks with some beans, if you kill them you loot them for a makarov, and a bandage. No quests, just random things that happen to make the game more immersive. I did also say that NPC threats would be good. Freek.. Good luck IRL bro.. -
NPCs, Instances & a Safe Zone
DeanBandit2450 replied to DeanBandit2450's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ok, so I use the term "instances" and you assume I want to be playing WoW. I don't even play it, so perhaps I should have said "events" or "occurrences". Turtleownage, how is a safe zone not realistic. This is obviously an area that was controlled by the military. 3 military airports and however many military posts small and large scattered across 225sq.km. It is inevitable someone is gonna get smart and take action. I did say "isolated" hence, small. If you have a problem with it, don't go there, but i'm there are people that could appreciate something like this, and I'm sure Rocket and the Dev Team would implement it in a smart way. The force (or whoever controls it) at the safe zone would simply be there to prevent friendly fire, although if you take a shot, it still hits. You may even get a few[i/] off before you're taken out. Ideally there would be no NPCs to interact with there, aside from perhaps, bandits could quickly take out a guard with a silenced gun, loot his basic things (no more than say a rifle, minimal rounds). Also, sandbags and wire fencing are part of the game, so re-establishing some sort of humanity is to be expected. I did also that I would hate for Exp. to be implemented in any way Also, how is 'bartering' different to trading? and if that was one of the things that make this game unique, shouldn't that be taken advantage of? Thankyou for trying to provide a constructive response, but perhaps you should try and explain how this idea would impact the game negatively, or how you think you could do it better, rather than just jumping on the bland-wagon.. Also, the 'safe-zone' would be even more interesting if was randomly overrun by zombies.. Hmm, I'm going to add that to the OP! -
Now more than ever, reduce weapon and ammo spawns

NPCs, Instances & a Safe Zone
DeanBandit2450 replied to DeanBandit2450's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As I said, constructive criticism is appreciated. A blunt no won't get us anywhere. I will edit my post in that I would hate for any sort of quest log or Exp. system to be introduced. I will also edit out the word quest as instances (albeit random) are much more applicable RoboSheriff, I could ask you; why do you want to turn this into another Nazi Zombies, it makes me sad (Not that I don't love Nazi Zombies, and just to preempt the haters, I didn't say I liked CoD, did I?). Riis, turning this into something like WoW would be shit, and that is hardly what I was implying. I'm just trying to bring some realism to the game in a dynamic way. Would you be complaining if after a hard fight to help someone you were rewarded with a car? I bet you've never even driven one. and Forsaken, did you even check the link I referred to? And can you please explain how safe zones/instances would miss the point of a persistent survival horror? Or, if it actually happened, would you just never talk to anyone and kill them for their beans..? I don't think you get the point, so I will re-iterate; 1. Situational instances are not going to turn this into an mmo. It is entirely up to you how you handle the situation, and I feel NPCs should not have subtitles or anything, then you just say 'yes' or 'no' when required, or you could just shoot, or you could ignore them. Either way offers rewards dependent on your playing style, be it moral or just basic loot. This is entirely plausible and would add dynamics to the game both solo and in groups. 2. A single military controlled safe zone is completely realistic in this situation, and provides a hub for activity other than PvP zones.. Also, it provides a source for military forces to come from (storywise anyway) though they should still spawn randomly. -
It would be cool to see it take time to cook food. Though you would not need to constantly tend the fire, it should still take 5 minutes or something for meat to cook. In this time, you're free to do whatever, such as get killed, leaving fresh steaks for the suspect. Perhaps this could become part of a chef proficiency which determines food quality. (for discussing proficiencies please refer to http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14592) On that note, perhaps time spent doing stuff could be implemented into a range of functions. For example: you fix a car using engine parts which is still relatively quick, but then, it's not fully fixed. More engine parts could be used to further increase the engines integrity. Happy hunting, Dillu

Perhaps rather than a spawn point, a quick travel option could be associated with tents (at a fee in time of course) or perhaps you could set an option to travel to a tent when you disconnect from a server (at a bigger fee in time). Dillu Edit: gotta say I agree Scerun, perhaps more hunting shacks etc. could have an improved chance of higher grade weaponry.

I have two main topics to address here and then why that is, but I will try and make it simple leaving room open for interpretation, and suggestions. I would like to start a discussion here, so please; avoid negativity but pursue constructive criticism of my own and other peoples posts. Don't just shut people down straight away, unless their ideas are actually dumb.. Still, don't be a dick. If discussion progresses we may need to split into other threads but let's see how it goes.. Tools/Components I think tools like the hatchet have a lot of potential in how you interact with the environment. State some tools you might like to see, or some uses for the existing tools, and how they interact with new/existing components. Mine are: ɵ Wood and the knife could be used to make single (or very few time) use crossbow bolts. As could scrap metals and a tool kit. ɵ The hatchet/knife could be used to carve markers into trees for navigational purposes. ɵ A mirror or the lens in a compass could be used to light tinder. ɵ A mirror/the watch could be used to send sun signals for locating friends. ɵ String could be used to set trip grenades, or perhaps even trip flares as a warning system. Proficiencies I would like to see a skill set that develops with time/use. For example, you may slowly get better at using tools to craft crossbow bolts, thus the bolts can be used more times, or you may often use one weapon, so you learn to reload it quicker. There are many applications for a simple proficiency list whose values are determined by how you play the game rather than any point based system. This could include being a mechanic, a medic, a scout or marksman, even a chef. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer I suggested having a lens on the compass. This may make lighting fires too easy, but perhaps there could be two different compasses, one with, one without. I also said it would light tinder. Tinder could be implemented in that perhaps with old newspaper, and wood of course, you can light fire in the rain (I don't actually know if you can't light fires in the rain). As for the characters' proficiencies , rather than any list or visible skill trees, it would be cool if these values were determined only by how you play the game ie. values change when time is spent doing things. Even subtle changes would be cool in terms of creating a developing RPG. I'm aware of the limitations within designing a mod, I am just trying to spark conversation so we can raise some well thought out points for Rocket and the Dev Team to consider implementing into the official release of DayZ. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy hunting, Dillu
