**Quality DayZ Server Hosting** ~BEC~ |HFBSERVERS.COM| Highest Performance

Another quick question for those that have HFB. Have you found a way to ban players using the ban.txt file, or know where to place it? I am able to do it within game using the #exec ban command but I thought that created the text file. -

Quick question for you guys, I have a battleye/scripts.log file in my log viewer folder. It's at about 200MB's right now and increases about 25mb every day. I don't want this to bog down your end too much and was just wondering if there is a way to reset it. At this point it is too large for me to download in a reasonable amount of time to look for script hackers. -
The Potential Problematic Future of DayZ Server Hosting
phisher34 replied to Ilumination's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Viper has pointed out though that it would cost $66,666.67/month in just overhead costs. That kickstarter money would get eaten up fast. The only way to do it reliably right now is to have the cost spread out via server hosts. If they are using that money to setup official servers then we are getting into the payment/product realm again where most people will have expectations. You and I might not, but thousands of people will. -
I do agree that the rules they have in place are what is needed. We had an admin lock our server for 5 minutes because of a suspected scripter and the admin wanted to check the server log file without him being present. While at work not 10 minutes after it happened, I got an email warning me that my server was locked and it might be shutdown if it happens again. (This is a good thing!) Maybe its just a clearer explanation of what these servers are meant for as I often see them too. Locked servers with a handful of people in them. It could just be testing but I think that needs to be made clear in the server name.

The Potential Problematic Future of DayZ Server Hosting

They are going about it in a smart way. If people start shelling out monthly fees, there will be an expectation of product. If it's buggy and unreliable it will turn people away. I don't know how many times I have heard members on our TS quit the game in frustration because they died of a bug or some glitch. If they were paying for it, I don't even want to know how they would react. What's important to maintain right now is a development path towards a standalone or DLC release. Establish features that will make it into the final product. Get a solid footing for an Alpha or Beta test then go dark for months until a final product can be released. I hope the huge cash infusion for ARMA 2: CO is benefiting the DayZ dev team in some regard (I think having Rocket work full-time on it is). Reserve slots will still only really hurt the 90% of players who aren't playing as a part of clan or who are server admins. As a server admin, we are paying for a place to call home. -

I am definitely against reserve slots. We have at times 15 players from our gaming community on a server. This can mean several group members are constantly trying to get in. But a public player should not be punished by being kicked out of the game. This isn't like other games where they can just rejoin and spawn back at base. Getting kicked randomly can severely impact the players life depending on where they were or what they were doing. -

I rent a server for our gaming community as well, and most importantly I think it gives us a place to call home. We know without asking people in TS where to find the rest of the group. To me this is the biggest benefit. Server control in terms of kicking and banning is secondary (I've only kicked 1 player in the month or so we have been running). I don't feel locking or passwording, even reserve slots, benefits anyone. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be getting kicked from a server right before finding a vehicle, or running across the tarmac, or looting the barracks, or whatever - so a clan member could join. The other option is a central server where you have no control over it. This really is new ground and can't be considered a traditional dedicated server like you would find in CS, Battlefield, or regular ARMA. -

Would like to know too. Been about 30 minutes or so. I'm wondering if Rocket is going to roll out another fix real quick to solve the hatchet/crowbar bug. Anybody able to update yet? -
Are these hacks located in .rpt file?

Definitely legit items no doubt about that. But can't deny its suspicious :) -

Alright thanks. Is there a reference I can look at for suspect scripts? If not, I think I remember seeing something on the forums a while ago. I'll keep searching. -
Server admins abusing their power
phisher34 replied to jinkiro's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As a fellow server admin, I feel it is important to point this out when it happens. Especially if it happens so egregiously as this. Everyone in this game needs to accept that they will die at some point, from another player, a bug, or exploding vehicle. In the future, try to take screenshots if at all possible. Some of my community members have been falsely accused of hacking, with elaborate stories to back it up, only to be proven false. -

I would much rather them being able to focus exclusively on this problem before bringing the servers back up. It was a smart move.
-
Here's the thing. This will hopefully let them focus entirely on fixing hacking. My hatred for hackers is so deep that I would rather DayZ go down for a however long it takes and not let them get the satisfaction.

DayZ servers are closed because of the constant hacking. *SERVERS ARE BACK ONLINE.

I think this is honestly a smart move. Hopefully this will light a fire under some asses. -
All the servers went down just a bit ago. Ours came back up. All our vehicles and tents have disappeared. Any news?

The one and only: Hackers rustled my jimmies thread.
phisher34 replied to #BASEDGOD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will probably be shutting down my server until it is fixed. I can completely empathize with server admins that want to lock it. Frankly, I can see why they would ask why should they follow DayZ rules if there is wide perception that they aren't doing anything about scripters. No one wants to wait for a massive content patch a week from now. A hotfix. A temporary reprieve on locking. Something. Especially since these have been around for almost 3 years. -
Shutting down server until hacking is figured out.

This mod has moved beyond an enjoyable "Alpha" test because of hacking. There really is no point in spending time gathering loot, repairing vehicles, or moving anywhere past the coast. I would honestly rather Rocket shut down the mod until scripting can be addressed. Don't even give them the satisfaction. Every. Single. Server. Has been wiped multiple times. -

These exact exploits have been a problem since early days in ARMA. The game has never been this popular enough to warrant their time to actually fix the problems. Or at least that is how the public interprets it because they have never officially addressed it. -
Was the recent change in survivor's motivations affected by the community or Rocket?
phisher34 replied to kilozombie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the bandit skin being removed was part of it. Though buggy, it was successful in establishing a difference between a good and bad player. Though I am sure a new system will replace that in the future. Unfortunately, the bug outweighed the benefits. I also feel as people get more comfortable with the game. When you understand the mechanics of it - people become more fun to hunt down. Simply put, it is impossible to understand what another human player might do, so it is always more of a risk. To prove this, just imagine if there were player controlled zombies. Your focus would immediately return to the threat of zombies, as you don't know what they might do. They could chase you through woods, hid behind a corner, flank you, etc. etc. I don't think the solution is then to make player controlled zombies, but rather improve the AI to the point that no ones gets comfortable enough to put them aside - and Rocket is already taking these steps. -

No. If the goal is to make early game harder - then give them half the supplies. -
Seattle 24 - Player [Sparta] Skaz
phisher34 replied to Boombastic320's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Boombastic, I would like to think that of the 30 members that have played ARMA since it was OFP, and our collective century of experience, we know good locations to raid towns. Hell we've attacked Elektro about 200 times in ARMA 2 on any number of mods. -

phisher34 replied to Boombastic320's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I am the server admin of Sparta and a Sparta member. I can promise you this was not Skaz. Skaz is also a member of Sparta and you are welcome to hop on our TS to talk about it or visit our forums (feel free to PM if you would like the info). Sparta has and always been a mature gaming group. Skaz was killed by these hackers alongside everyone else. Multiple Sparta members were also in game and witnessed the hackers dropping bombs along the coast. EDIT: In terms of the incident you are bringing up, we had almost a dozen players in Elektro practicing a squad raid. Skaz was in the hill above town covering. I am guessing one of you is Haku (or his friends). Let's tell both sides of the story, your group was extremely vocal about your abilities at killing people in Elektro and challenged the entire server. Which is why our group moved from Cherno to Elektro. Skaz, as procedure, called out a contact in TS when he spotted one of you prone on top of the firestation. He then took the shot. No hacking at all. -
Kicking AFK players squatting in character selection = kickable?
phisher34 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Had a quick question. We had about 4 people squatting in character selection for over 30 minutes this afternoon (one for over 2 hours). We wrote in side chat that they had 2 minutes to get into the game or would be kicked. All of them were subsequently kicked with further warnings at 1 minute and 30 seconds. I don't know if there ever has been any clarification on this, as I haven't seen it mentioned in DayZ rules (or I have missed it). We monitored to make sure it wasn't new people joining and just taking longer than usual to get in, but people who were AFK for over 30 minutes. -

Thanks for the reply. I read that global chat might also work, even in game?
