(Fair)Murder, Barbed wire, etc. Suggestions (Feedback Welcomed)
adamtheheretic replied to Specter911's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
[1] I guess that's good. "Zombies and animal gutting could be put in due to suggestion I admit, but there would need more signs of what a player has been currently doing to base your opinion on, then seeing them soaked in blood could be from killing others, looting others, or gutting animals." I disagree, if blood is implemented I don't like the idea of specifically knowing what "type" of blood was on someone, it should be up for debate so bandits could claim to have just looted zombies or killed animals whilst survivors could get shot because other survivors don't believe their claims. Blood comes from zombies when you shoot them so I don't think that's debatable at this time. [2] "... would you sleep in a zombie infested town?" If there was an actual zombie apocalypse, most likely. I'd have to if I didn't have a tent or something to allow me to brave the great outdoors. So somewhere "safe" would mean a hill outside of a town or something meaning you wouldn't alert anyone but is that really more realistic? [3] Three is now about your idea of personalities, so first don't get mentality and classes mixed into one. I know plenty of mechanics, not all of them think the same, nor even close to on the same wavelength as one another until it actually comes to fixing cars or bikes or what have you. Classes are more a set of skills one has acquired (Liam Neeson speech?) and mentality is effectively how one would perceive the world. I think playing a "role" in a sandbox comes from the actions and way you play the game rather than being prescribed rules to abide by. Like my signature, I personally consider myself someone fit for the role of recon and engineer... why? Well, I prefer silenced weapons and stealth for one. Second, I carry a large back pack and pick up vehicle parts over food and water any day. These two roles don't fit perfectly together but I play them both relatively effectively in my opinion. But some others play as Medics (see Dr Wasteland MD) and some play as bandits living off others. I don't mean the Kill on Sight "bandits" I mean real bandits that are tricky, slimy, good for nothing and great at playing that role. They sweet talk you, they gain your trust and take everything from you without a moments notice. That's what the game is about. -

Okay, so responding to your response I guess... [1] Exempting zombie blood, why? They are technically just infected and are classed as "living" in game, that's why shots that hit splatter blood meaning close range killing of zombies would splatter your clothing as well as human blood. It may not attract zombies, but it'd certainly mess up your attire and could convince other survivors you're a bandit. In this case, you could cover yourself in zombie blood to be less attractive to them. Do you want to miss out animal blood too, would that not attract zombies? Also, killing survivors from a long distance seems to be the trend so bandits wouldn't get their hands dirty at all with this suggestion. Whilst describing it, I'm liking the idea of blood a bit more however games generally get it wrong and we'd all probably end up crimson if we survive for a reasonable amount of time. EDIT: Also this would be really hard to implement gameplay wise, I don't think it's worth the effort. [2] Zombies hearing me 10-30m away isn't too bad however I don't want them to hear me if I spawn inches from them to be completely honest. It's more of a gameplay issue than a realism issue in my opinion. Also my point with bandits is that some of them could be classed as psychopaths meaning they won't care who they kill or why they kill them. And there are some people worse than those, there's a reason the word schadenfreude exists my friend... Along with snuff. So killing 1, 5 or 100 people may not effect them at all, whilst killing 1 zombie may effect someone else's psyche completely. Also, this mod is essentially an RPG, I play a role similar to myself. I like to keep some things similar and I'd like to change some things to keep "realism" in my own idea of what is happening. So making noise getting up isn't one of the things I'd change. This is why I shouldn't make noise waking up. And these are the reasons why there shouldn't be an option to choose types of "mentality", I think your own mentality is what effects what you do in game rather than adding in mentality to abide by. Not overly relevant to your idea here but it's based on my RPG point, I hate that people disregard their own lives. This is rare amongst humans as our basic instincts are to survive yet the current system doesn't punish those that just spawn run in a town get a weapon and start shooting anything and everything with complete disregard. Reckless gameplay, fine, it's not my style but I'll accept that others use it however not fighting to live is something that annoys me and I don't have a perfect suggestion for this so I won't post it but it's my little rant about how I think we could solve the KoS bandit/survivor blur that currently exists. [3] I don't think this section needs to exist. -
Suggestions: Cannabalism, Reanimation, Inclement Weather, Player Settlements

+1, agree with Deviant that settlements aren't really feasible with the current build. -
I have a much better idea, fuel in drinking canisters.

Not only psychopaths murder, they plan more than others... Most in game "murders" are reactionary, and the murders are just growing out of self defence. Also I have no quote for this but psychopaths also generally keep their cool more than others after a murder because they're more worried about keeping themselves from harms way. The psychopath population in jails also decreases significantly because of the suicide rates in jail and their lack of emotion towards others and the deep concern for themselves. In all honesty, I hate the current KoS aspect of the game but the bandit skin idea doesn't help, why do you think it was removed? It's unrealistic, also it looks cool so it's more of a prize showing that you've won so many encounters with other players. Also I only have three or four murders under my belt, two of them were self defence. Take that as you will, in all honesty I like having the freedom to run up to a noob and show them the ropes, giving them weapons, blood, morphine and everything they need to start up. As much as I like seeing someone sprinting across the airfield and taking their head off, just let us play the game how we want.

Weapon Sling Proposal I propose we introduce weapon slings, these are tactical assets used by the military, these are harnesses attached to the gun and user which allows them to drop their guns for quick access to other guns without specifically "holstering" These are usually looked at as over the shoulder straps but you can attach these as your belt or chest harness which allows you to literally drop your gun, use another item, weapon or what have you and then simply reach down and grab your gun again. Weapon Sling Image How? [1] This could be implemented would be as a tool and only work with certain weapons, obviously this is intended as a standard military item so this could implemented as a tool that is found commonly at military spawns and a rarity amongst farms and residential areas and only allow more modern military weapons to be hung from it such as the MP5, M4 and M107 [2] This could be implemented on weapons themselves, the way the MP5 has the regular and silenced version you could find a "tatical" version which simply includes the sling and allows for faster weapon changing. Why? I think this should be implemented because it is a standard military asset and is very useful, depending on how it is implemented it could allow for more weapons to be carried at once expanding those players that use shotguns because they could also have a longer range weapon or even expanding those that prefer melee weapons without having them have to run in to a building drop or store their weapon in their bag before equipping and reloading their hatchet. [sidenote: I also suggest having a melee weapon selection meaning you right-click and select "melee weapon" which then allows a quick toggle with "F" or scroll through weapon options to swap to the hatchet or any future melee weapons added.] EDIT It was pointed out this could be overpowered, my friend suggested that instead of having these weapons as well as a "secondary" pistol, the gun on your chest is your primary leaving you with your normal inventory space here, however the gun on your back becomes your secondary, taking up that slot and four of your secondary inventory. My personal input here is that clips could also take up two slots meaning that if you want a decent amount of shots you have to use it as your primary or store ammo in your pack.

And here is the first mention of my input, so I like the idea of high military grade equipment, a death match between multiple groups and a shit tonne of zombies. So the equipment should be random spawn, not all rare but maybe just a high rate, so multiple M16's, M4's, MP5's etc. And then obviously the food and drink. People don't seem to question WHY this could have crashed, if it becomes a scene in which a plane actually crashes, then the explosion could kill any people remaining but maybe not zombies... This meaning that along with the crash, these military zombies would slowly leak out of the plane along with the attraction of the noise to the surrounding location as well as the spectacle of seeing it zombies that don't hear it may still follow it from a distance away maybe drawing whole towns. This should only happen in servers near capacity to ensure it's not just a zombie slaying fest followed by unimaginable amounts of loot. And as people said, once per server restart in a completely random location.

Read the first page, not bothering with all of them but I think this should only be implemented if a new damage system is implemented. I don't want to headshot someone with my CZ only to have someone shock them back up, I mean come on they're missing a brain.

I'll just leave this here... -
I've never done a trade, I generally only wind up being friendly to noobs because those who have been here for a while seem to have a KoS policy. I personally would have made the deal like this: Make the arrangements like you said, however only have one player in the vehicle with a second player in a different vehicle riding close by, four tactically placed snipers, two players with silenced weapons and ghillie suits flanking the "drop point" whilst also bringing along a player with a more powerful gun such as an M240 or AK variant. At that point, you park the vehicle far from the drop point (with little sniping chance) giving them message for only one person to come down with the AK's, stop them 20-30m from the vehicle telling them to drop the AK's and walk back to their group, one person grabs the AK's and places them in the second vehicle whilst the unequipped driver delivers the vehicle without carrying anything, including a pack. This way even if they're killed the other gets nothing a corpse, sniped upon and the team behind them opening fire. This means you can take your vehicle back, but if it goes smoothly then you leave with what you wanted. I have a better idea, but I thought I'd put my second class idea here for others to use in case I end up in a trade situation.

Weapon of choice: pros and cons
adamtheheretic replied to jimmy_rustlers's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My first murder weapon, double barreled shotgun. Someone shot at me, I hid in a tent, shot him in the back as he walked in front of me. I found that shotguns are a great weapon to kill players with as the close range generally makes them miss for some odd reason. My current load-out is an M4 CCO, the scope makes it easy to aim and my tactic is generally to hit with the first shot or confuse them with sprinting, drinking/eating and other sound effects and the oh so infuriating silence. I'm not shoot on sight but those I deem untrustworthy give me the title of a bandit whilst those I help deem me savior, either way I'm fine sharing my load-out and tactics I'm not attached to either of them. -

Half way through second page, tl;dr. I like the idea though and I'm attempting to get it front page right now. We're past the bandit skin and we all look the same unless we pick up some new clothing... I don't like that. I hate looking the same as my friends and foes alike, it makes the game feel impersonal. I understand that the ArmA 2 skins won't support the backpacks which sucks because some of them look brilliant but I'm sure there are some good skins that we could use as well as people willing to modify the skins to get them to work or create new ones. Then we could have more diversity because you'll inevitably run in to someone looking like you but atleast it'd be much less common and could let groups identify one another which quick glances rather than asking friends to lean to the left, crouch or lower weapons and other degrading immersion breaking hepatitis C conjuring bullsh!&.

-Cons- Everyone rushing to the fuel stations New Place for Bandits to set up traps Vehicle build up Vehicle Hoarders Less Realistic Zombie "horde" event happens without zombies necessarily in the area Immersion breaking, should be able to siphon gas without portable generator More people have access to vehicles People compare Day Z to L4D
-
I guess this makes sense, I don't like the "choosing a place" to attach it, I think one tracking device should be a ghillie/range finder like rare spawn then once it's in a vehicle you can track it but if someone has a tracking device and then "install it" it then removes the previous tracking device. The only way to make this fair would to not allow tracking devices to be removed otherwise they could install then remove it instantly to remove previous devices. I also really like the idea of leaving your vehicle out in the open on purpose to have it stolen then follow it to it's location letting you find a camp or something similar.

(Fair)Murder, Barbed wire, etc. Suggestions (Feedback Welcomed)
adamtheheretic replied to Specter911's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm sorry but your suggestions are pointless, I'm glad you start with a proposal and attempt to explain your point but you do it badly and I think the overall idea's are bad so convincing me it's a good idea will be an uphill struggle... So here we go: [1] Blood on clothing? Well you said handling bodies, so survivors would be doing this with zombies as well as bandits or other survivors they've killed so blood would be on everyone if they're alive for long enough meaning it wouldn't identify anything bar your lack of luck when finding clothing. [2] Dreaming? Well, for the most part this could destroy new spawns games as you only know the location of your spawn and you don't know who could have been in/near the town if you're in one or who's in/near your tent. A second point on this is that you assume "bandits" are bothered by killing more and more people until around 40, which could be completely untrue, they could be bothered about killing until they feel justified such as someone raises a gun to them, then from then on it's the stranger or them who lives meaning they would still feel justified killing anything/everyone. And you assume survivors aren't bothered by killing walkers, when these could have been your neighbors or family or just some guy you've seen walking past you a couple of times... My third point here is that you may not have been sleeping at all, and I personally make more noise when asleep than when I wake up. [3] Barbed wire, so I agree this is a very annoying item that is only really used for griefing especially in the close to spawn towns but it could be very useful, your suggestion is okay that it should only be placed "outdoors" and I agree to a point, I think that it should only be placed where there is enough space meaning large buildings like fire stations could have them across doorways and such. My personal recommendation is to remove them from the game (for a short while) change them to take up two or three slots then add them back in. My second point is to make toolboxes more readily available as well as make it easier to remove barbed wire and other traps. -
Daddy, what did you do before the zombies came? Professions
adamtheheretic replied to darklynx's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not a bad idea but open to exploitation. *Figure out what fall "breaks a leg"* *Morphine near guy learning* *Again* OR *Collect a shit tonne of bandages* *Shoot/Hit friend* *Bandage wound near guy learning* *Again* This is obviously just an exploit for medical, but I assume you can see how those fixing cars could exploit it, or those "orienteering" for rangers or snipers getting "crack shots", etc. -
I like the idea of being able to shoot from vehicles as long as your speed and the size of the gun affect it, even going slow being very inaccurate still. I don't overly think vehicles with large guns attached are a way to go unless you scavenge the gun and ammo, even so I don't like the idea but atleast it's plausible.
-
I like the idea that players killed by zombies would then turn in to a zombie, sort of walking dead-esque with survivors being "immune" while alive but turning when they die. I have also promoted the idea of zombie children before and will do again along with this and animals as well as females obviously.
-
Yeah, that is kind of the point of this idea. If this is introduced even without being able to carry more weapons I'd like the idea of quick swaps.

Zombies act more like zombies.
