Original post was great, two or three responses were too long. Tl;dr I like the idea of less munitions being available, as well as a lot of regular items because obviously those there before you would have eaten that tin of beans or drank that soda... -

Got to page 4 and raged hard at the idiots responding to this thread, it's funny that the good reasonable responses also had good grammar and spelling... It seems the CoD kiddies got vocal and like their M107's. Well, honestly I like some of your idea's. [MineZ has a very clear "Friendly" stance that is easy to see and duplicate without compromising offensive ability.] I like the idea but it's pretty much in the game already, like for those that play as medics and help out randoms, I use the sit function which stops me from using any weapons and shows that I'm not going to attack them... Other than that, I generally swap to my sidearm and lean left and right, I've been shot at every time but at least it's known in the metagame that leaning like that is friendly, it's just dicks that choose to attack. Oh, as well as lowering your weapon but most people haven't assigned a key to that, I wonder why... [Grouping up has great benefits, while solo play isn't punished.] I honestly don't see the point of this section, I know solo play shouldn't be punished in Day Z but I think it's impossible to justify that being in a group isn't more advantageous than being alone. [MineZ's weapons are naturally less threatening, promoting group play and easily identifying bandit intentions.] I think it'd be pretty hypocritical of my to go against this given my thread, I'm really happy with this idea but I think this is the part of the post most people have a problem with, for some reason they treat the idea of rare weapons as stupid even though in a real situation people wouldn't be armed to the teeth with military gear. Someone pointed out that Chernarus is being occupied by two opposing military forces however that's assuming that Day Z has the same backstory as Arma rather than just a random town in Russia... My Post to show support of this. [Bandits are easily identifiable by unique player skins and easy-to-read nametags.] I like this idea too, probably because it once again goes hand-in-hand with my idea's. I don't like the idea of bandit skins but if I understand your post, it's more just remembering a skin that someone else has picked themselves which I like. ZedsDeadBaby's post about player identification is a really good idea and explains exactly why and how "nametags" should be implemented now and for when there are a vast array of skins to choose from/customisation. -
The human eye can differentiate between shades of green more than any other colour, that's probably why? I have suggest the HUD to be reduced to almost nothing and include the information in the Journal instead but I don't see what's wrong with the current HUD as a HUD... I guess +1 for customising the colour, not for changing it specifically to another colour that someone will complain about.

Okay, so I honestly like the idea of "roles" but I don't really get the need for the packs, the idea in my thread was to just decrease the current tool slots and make people choose between tools. As I said before, fine with it being experimented with, I think this is something that would have to be added to the game to really argue against. -

Thank you. Yeah, I'm in agreement here, melee weapons would be a godsend if the zombies weren't currently pathed so strangely and didn't have the insane speed advantage... Honestly, my idea's for the HUD were to have those things the current HUD tells you told in a more personable way. For hunger I said a stomach rumbling, no other players could hear this until you're next to starvation (current flashing red food icon), with water I think your vision should occasionally blur and maybe unable to run when you're near dehydration. Yeah, I hope for a more in-depth melee system but this may just be a hope for either Arma 3 or a stand-alone project if that happens... If the weapons become more rare I would expect a spawn rate similar to the current makarovs/enfields, being easily available in residential/farm areas but no so rare that everyone just starts to have hatchet fights. Then I pretty much agree with your point until; "One could argue about the rareness of items. I don't want to see a constant battle over ressources. If you're in a group, I wouldn't want there to be a constant tension. You should be able to survive in a group and not have to kill your friends, because there is not enough food. But it shouldn't be too easy either. Finding the right balance could be the hardest part in this." I do want to see a battle over resources, it's a sink or swim world, I think putting an incentive to play in a group is all well and good but I think there has to be that harsh decision to kill the guy with the broken leg or to jump the guy with the gun/last tin of beans without it being your friend that you're on mumble or teamspeak with. Also, if you read the "Make DayZ a living hell" post, it says that food could be shared between two people, this wouldn't be vital to, but a huge boost to team play and goes perfectly with my idea. Also it wouldn't specifically decrease banditry, but maybe decrease banditry, and it would allow lone wolves to make two meals out of one so staying alone would still be viable when food sources are scarce. I like the idea of the better military grade loot being at crash sites, but also sometimes just broken junk with "scrap metal" showing that something valuable may have broke in the crash. I don't like the overall idea of military loot ONLY being on helicopters though, I think the map should spawn military loot at military locations but not as much as it does currently because it's a simple case of visiting one town, collecting everything to survive, inland for military loot, boredom. It should be a hunt to find everything, and it should hit hard when you lose that makarov and you'll really think about putting that Enfield in your bag rather than 10 tins of food. With procedural-generated maps, I don't know... I like the idea of people not knowing the map and being unable to do the aforementioned spawn, one town, military grade but I don't completely support the idea for some reason... I think it may be too minecraft-esque. -

Honestly, I think you took the "if you're good at something in real life" thing the wrong way... so that if you can "read the sky" in real life, you can in game... The game naturally gives you the ability to do many things you may not be able to do, such as gut animals, make fires, etc. But things like orienteering you must do yourself unless you find a compass and map. I'm happy for this to be experimented with, especially if it causes more team play. -

I like the idea of adding basically a full map to the mod but I don't like the idea of requiring different servers... I think just occasionally adding the "westlands" then "eastlands" to the mod would make it better for different locations to spawn specific item sets as well as allow for more players on a server without everyone meeting at cherno, elektro or the nwaf. -

Okay, so... Not quoting you Spectre as the post is far too much information to post again and go through but this'll be systematic to your post as yours was to mine originally. Tools: Thank's for the input, I really like the different amounts of slots idea as it works with the current Arma equipment system quite nicely and would obviously diversify the roles in groups if implemented well/accepted by the community. Immersive HUD: I thought of a similar idea at first to make it realistic, however the way it works now the screen just pops up and seems more game mechanic-esque than minecraft map gimmick-esque. Honestly I'm fine with either of these as I really just want less of an obvious HUD all the time. However for the visibility/sound I only suggested that for those new to the game as honestly, I'm only just coming fully to terms with it now but I still check it occasionally... this is more when I'm not wearing my headset or in third person to be completely honest. I suggest making the really default weapons like Makarovs' date=' Revolvers and M1911 have less than a 1% chance to spawn, and I don't have any specific figures but you can gauge the levels of spawn other weapons would have. With your first rifles being as rare as Night Vision Goggle's currently. You have to realise that with a 0.3% chance of spawning, 15 people on a 50 person server could have that gun the only thing stopping them is the fact someone else may have taken it from a loot pile they stumble upon. Say we're talking about military loot here, I counted 45 military loot spawn locations (excluding deer stands) and some of the have multiple loot piles in... The things you think "rare" in the game generally aren't. The main problem I encountered with this idea was server hopping rather than weapon camping... The only way I can think to stop this is to have players that connect and disconnect quickly from servers to be warned that they will die or get a temporary ban but that's a completely different issue... My HUD idea calls for less of an obvious HUD' date=' it only being available through the journal option... An immersive HUD being introduced would mean you didn't need the journal to know your current condition but being an option for specific data. Thanks for the support, I think? It's a pretty good idea, I think maybe the second shield needs to be dialed down to less health but obviously it should be pretty damn strong... Also I promote everything being more rare, so this item should be a godsend for a group, pretty useless for a loner and should take up your primary weapon slot. If they're made weaker maybe you should be able to fire a pistol at the same time taking inspiration from the head movement, instead of that ALT would move your gun reticle, giving you the ability to blind fire. [double tapping obviously swapping the roles to holding it moving the shield and not pressing it moves your gun reticle] -
Definitely like the idea, only if there are either different Hive servers to accommodate or an option to choose "map" before joining a server, or it just tells you the map on the server list.

Technically, they're zombies but it's more due to a working title sticking... And Rocket decides what lore he sticks to and what he disregards. In all honesty, that's how we got to this point with zombies, vampires, werewolves and the like and the lore will only change over time. -

Sorry but people do think about shooting, I ran in front of another player and started to lean side to side, he did the same as I backed off still staring he raised his rifle and shot me. If he didn't think I would have been dead before leaning... The reason people don't "think" about shooting you is probably because they think you're a bandit, or they are a bandit. Also, an invasive HUD asking if I want to kill someone? Really? You consider that an idea... I hate the amount of HUD we have now. -
So I don't know where to post this... I have an idea which is basically make Day Z harder... It will be similar to this post but I think it deserves a post of it's own and it needs to be laid out well... the problem I'm having is someone else to bounce ideas off of, as well as having someone ensure that it's abundant with quality. The idea is to make Day Z harder, the main focus being that everyone ends up over-equipped. Private message or post idea's please and thank you.

The linked thread was correct, and it was in the suggestion sub-forum I know it exists, this thread was more to ask about ideas that may coincide with everyone getting the highest grade equipment. Making weapons scarce would create more bandits? That doesn't necessarily matter... The server hopping would suck though... And with more scarce weapons, even with bandits they may not have an advantage, I'll think about how to stop the server hopping though...

End game shouldn't be Fallout 3-esque, it should be Oblivion-esque... I want the ability to use my amassed vehicle and gun collection. Be it to help survivors, kill bandits or kill survivors, help bandits... or just kill everyone and everything. I think what's really missing is the difficulty to amass such a collection... -
