There was 24k (23,967) playing on August 26th (exactly 2 months ago). It only peaked at that for a day then dropped right down again. But it shows there are a lot of people watching from the hills to see when DayZ will rise again ^_^ .

What kinda times do you normally play? Also you have to expect the average person in Cherno to shoot you. You wouldn't go to NWAF and expect people to be friendly, so consider Cherno the same way since it is the (low grade) PvP hotspot atm.

I think that's a bad analogy. Just about the biggest FPS boost they can provide currently will come from preventing rendering of objects the player can't see (no more 15fps because you're looking toward Cherno through a mountain). I was just musing that BI really need to provide something tangible in the next few weeks to avoid alienating a lot of the player base. If it's possible, it would be a clever move if only so far as player retention.

As title says, ran with a couple of friendly Uk guys earlier on today. We policed Berezino for a good 45 minutes and got into some good scrapes, would love to get back in touch since my Uk friend list is a little low nowadays. One guy we met had a Rak with ammo, gave me a CR75 clip and i gave him a Rak clip. Eventually server reset and couldn't find any of them after. Just hoping one of em stumbles across this :) Server was Grumpy Gamers (private).

1 - Updates happen as and when they're ready. Waits in between can vary in length depending on the issues the dev team face when adding new content and refining features. For instance we've been waiting a fair while for the .59 update but it's to be expected considering the amuunt of content and improvements that are apparently to be added. 2 - Nope, thank god. 3. There are loads of 3d games capable of rendering many zombies, not sure what you're on about there.. Suffice to say DayZ will stress your powerhouse rig because it's not optimised yet. 4. The mod was cool and special in many ways, but i prefer SA already. Arma2 is ok, as is Arma3 if Mil-Sim is your bag. 5. Yes, but you will understand when you play why this is the case. In reality most of us are very friendly. Paranoia makes men do bad things though, all hail DayZ for making us feel so twitchy ;) You'll find a lot of folks on the forums are a bit butt-hurt that DayZ isn't acting like a finished game yet (you can't tell them it's an Alpha Test or they call you a blind fanboy). Don't be put off, the concept and production are still well in advance of any other similar game. I actually suggest you check out THIS forum thread, which is a compilation of peoples in game experiences and will provide a broad cross section of what you can expect to experience in game.

Can you post your actual specs mate? No screenshots, write what your computer contains in as much detail as possible and i'll be happy to take a look for ya.

Yeah i dunno if the server's any good or not, was just tryna find the guys. How cool is it i actually managed to find a couple of randoms just by linking a tune :D After i lost you guys last time i popped up to Myshinko to requisition an AK-74 and some ammo.. still got it as i remember >:)

I see a lot of youtube guys adjusting their FOV quite regularly throughout their game, during fights etc. I'm wondering if this is purely to increase FPS or if there are other motives at work here. I tend to leave my FOV on max at all times, am i missing something?

Yeah i think same, it seems whatever your personal FOV is set to the RDS will adjust to "it's" set FOV when it's raised to the eye. This issue cause a split second of lag for me in some very tight situations, so i've since experimented to make sure my FOV is set to the same as the RDS.

Agreed, he even got me for a while. Internet gives some people muscles though, especially children.

I dunno what to expect really, but it would be a clever move for them to do occlusion first just to shut up a large portion of the whiners and buy themselves some more time to do the rest of the important (but not so noticeable) stuff.

The only solid proof of your intentions is in hindsight mate ;) "Hello" and "Friendly" are words and can be said by anyone regardless of intention. Quite often they are panic responses which essentially mean "lower your weapon so i can shoot you". I know you know this, but i think sometimes people put too much stock in communication. The other guy is likely just as sick of being killed on sight, and just wants to end you quick so he can relax again, such is the apocalypse :D DayZ wouldn't be DayZ without the constant threat of human violence as well as zombies, in my opinion anyway. I just hope the return of Z's will help spread the population out again so we can find people outside of big towns again.

I did say "assuming occlusion is included" :P If occlusion is done properly the number of objects rendered (massive FPS hog) will be cut to a tiny fraction of current number. I'm pretty sure it's going to be the largest performance boost of any change that will be made. So while i don't want to raise anyone's hopes about the new system as a whole, occlusion implementation is worth getting excited about.

I kinda disagree with this setup. I seriously doubt his setup is going to average 25-35 in big cities, or even near that, unless he is standing completely still not looking around and with no other players anywhere near him. Occlusion (nothing to do with ambient occlusion in options menu) seems to be the major FPS culprate at the moment, and once new renderer is in (assuming occlusion is included in first part release) everyone should see SUBSTANTIAL fps improvements.

I should have specified i meant 1 short click of right mouse, not a click and hold like when you zoom your view. Space to ready binocs so you see them bottom of screen, then a right click (short) as if you were bringing up a scope (not zooming said scope).

Hehe, might wanna try something other than flour or you're going to end up with a very large explosion :D

Gotta say i make friends regularly even since they took zombies away. I get shot at a lot too, but i think a lot of it is down to personality.
