Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Zhang Liao replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
They are currently over budget as far as the amount of system resources they consume. They have been scaled back while they are being optimized. I am under the impression that this is actually a very high priority right now. I am also under the impression that they are working more towards a beta ready zed rather than a patched up zed for stable branch appeasement. Zhang -

I think that having a mix of globally spawning zeds and proximity spawning zeds may be a good idea to conserve resources. Global spawning Zeds would be standing around in areas while proximity zeds could have the apperence of crawling out of trash piles and such when a player triggers an awareness metric when in range. "As needed" Zeds have merit by adding to the game substantially while not taxing the server when not in use. Any trash pile, bush closed door could be a threat. Or take a jail for example. Their could be a Zed trapped behind bars. This Zed wouldn't need to be there until someone came close to the jail. -
Would you support global chat being a sever option?

Yes for private shard. No for Public shard. It's that simple. -
I think players are much better informed than they were last year. I really think that make a huge difference.

Kamy and Solnichniy are where I seem to spawn most often.

Anyone else have a huge problem with combat?

I don't have problems with sending people on a quick vacation get away to the coast. But I also have noticed that bullets striking my character's hit box produces unfavorable results. Alas. -
I KOSed a guy at NWAF the other day. I felt that the NWAF is supposed to be dangerous and it would be helpful for this fella if he was given a reminder. I also helped this other fella out by giving him directions to Vybor even though I didn't know the way. I do these helpful things cuz thats the kind of guy I am. A true DayZ hero!

Yes I heard Devs say their would be a wipe. They said it was because my characters was too awesome and they needed to even the playing field. I also heard Hicks ran out of inventory space for duct tape. He can't give any of it up so they only way he can keep collecting it is to wipe the database.
-
I can totally see Hicks running around with 10 gas lamps. He probably thought it was his lucky day too!
-
I am very please as well. The part in Hick's conference presentation where he said he didn't want the internet folks to bitch at him more than they already do made me nearly spit out my soda! As far as the gaming videos go with Blackout I found it funny how Blackout was stocking trash in his inventory then he would tell hicks about the random trash he was finding. Then hicks would be like: "awesome, good find!" I was like wtf why are you carrying that stupid teddy bear?
-
Yeah I'm a fan of these guys! Those videos rock! Brian Hicks has really restored my faith in the development team. He likes the game almost as much as I do!

As stated before currently DayZ survival favors empty servers. The lower the server population the lower the risk. Low server population turns high risk high reward areas into low risk high reward areas. DayZ can only be what it is meant to be if servers are full. Having 100 pop servers is meaningless if their are 10,000 servers with 1 to 3 people on at a time. How can this be mitigated? Soft skills advance quicker on servers with higher average populations? By playing on a full server your character advances quickly. On an empty server boosting your soft skills takes forever! OMG! Environment interaction takes longer on servers with lower average populations? On a full server catching fish in a fish trap way out here in the open like this doesn't take very long. On an empty server it takes a looooooong time. Dang. Awesome loot spans more frequently on higher servers with higher population? NWAF would be a very dangerous place on a full server but chances are that what your looking for is there. Of course everyone that's tried to get it is dead. On empty servers the NWAF is not dangerous but chances are you qon't find what your looking for. It is just taking the "High risk, High reward" idea and applying it to server populations. Lets get some thoughts out on this subject please. I want to hear from the people that disagree and why? What could be some unforseen consequences?

Radios : A Cure for Player Interaction
Zhang Liao replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in General Discussion
Agreed communicating with other players has been largely outsourced to 3rd party software like TS3, Vent and Raidcall. Breaker 2-6 "Brian Hicks kicks @$#. Do you copy, over." -
I do no care what anyone says. Brian Hicks comment about not wanting the people on the internet yelling at him more than they normally do is the best part of the entire video! It was epic level awesome!

Hmm, what's the worst part about DayZ? I guess my answer is that it isn't done yet. What's the best part? I guess that would be it's potential. DayZ SA sold what, something like 2 million copies? The question is why did it sell so many copies? I guess the answer is once again DayZ's potential. I like the reach that the developers are going for. I like that they are taking the imposing challenges head on. Progress is slow and people are frustrated. Shoot, I bet the Devs are frustrated too. Having that vision they see, and we see, still so far out of reach. New bugs seem to keep cropping up at every turn and usually when they try to get something exciting pushed out to stable branch too. What to do, what to do? I think that we need to grin a bear it until beta hits. I think the game is going to see a reemergence bigtime when that happens. AMD machines need serious attention like stat. Crossfire and SLI will be important I think. If this game didn't chug like a dog it would lift everyone's spirits. Zhang

Here is some quick feedback. Survival promotes empty or low populated servers because other players are the biggest danger. We want full servers don't we? Perhaps a survival score could be weighted. For example 1 day of survival on a full server = 1 week of survival on an empty server. Shopping carts are a must have! Bag ladies are a staple in the ol' post apocalypse. Hand pumped railroad carts for vehicles. Goes faster with two people. Ham radio spawns (like green mountain) broadcast to the entire server. Can be left on auto repeat. Keep up the good work.

I will need to try this. Unfortunately Crossfire doesn't work. :/
