    So let me get this straight. you are a tester.. Yet you are a self admitted item hoarder who won't continue to test until his ghillie suit is returned. My mistake, big difference. You don't snipe newbs "much".. lol. Don't BS a Bs'er, boy. You're just the kind of tester we don't need. I stand behind what I said before. If you aren't OK with the fact you will lose your stuff.. then maybe you should move along. You will find no pitty here. Luckily this game weeds out this type of player. I don't need a pat on the back.. but is sure sounds like you need a hug. :lol:

    Bandit Forum

    AKM is a solid human hunter. It fires the second largest round in the game(7.62mm). Once you understand zeroing in.. you can kill most people with just a couple rounds center mass. Most of the time I just leave it on basic zeroing. Only drawback is the banana clips for it are not super common. But it is potent so it doesn't take much to down someone.

    Lol.. So let me get this straight. You are "OK" with losing such and such.. "this is an alpha so thems the breaks". Yet you won't test now because you can't get a ghillie suit so you can obviously just sit and snipe newbs. You aren't a tester. Don't try and sound like one to deflect from what you are actually doing. Thanks for the laugh though.

    That means they DC'd themselves after the kill. Which makes the body vanish so you can;t loot it.

    I was thinking the same thing. When we get the future (hopefully) options to build settlements or clear areas of Zs, etc. Do more meta game within the simulation, then more dynamics will arise. I've already started to see groups form and set up areas within the servers I play, that somewhat resemble a basic form of that (safe zones, basic gear stockpiles for people in need, etc). Groups have sprung up to rescue new players or hunt bandits. I think there does need to be a better visual way to tell if someone is a bandit though. right now it is too easy to just KOS to protect yourself than risk having someone do it first..As it stands the only real way is by knowing the regulars of a server and going by reputation.

    I commend your attempt to bring back some reason not to KOS. It just doesn't fit the game. I don't even think the structure to build the features onto, even exists in the game engine.

    Confirming it is very stable. More so than it has been for a while. Major issue though seeming to sprout from having the most recent ARMA beta patch. Can not loot gutted animals. Just a quick response to the major questions. Camo seems fine thus far as well. Loot spawn also more consistant.. (which i believed was an issue with desyncing before.)

    I'm seeing some servers with the new hotfix. Funny thing is most of them are password locked. There are a shitload of password protected servers from what I am seeing. What gives?

    More issues I ran across. Backpacks taken from corpses revert to items being whatever was in it at time of looting. Hours after taking it, or at time of relog. Upstairs in barns instant death, could be involved with terrible desyncing after this patch. This was a non skin associated problem. Went up stairs and lost like 4k blood from nothing. Healed and ate... picked up a lumber pile to make a fire. walked past the hay pile and instantly died. Water bottles not always working. Drank them, thirst icon goes green. Log off for the night and relog later to find it is seconds from blinking red.. yet water bottle still used. No loot in tree stands or loot spawning broken by desyncing. (tested on 18 stands).. Not sure it is desync, considering the zombies spawn under the stand like they are being poured out of a cup. Looks stupid as hell. Animal behavior as broken as ever. Players rubberbanding across the map constantly.. I've never had lag issues before (all servers played at posted 15-50 ping like always). At least not since a much much earlier build. Netcode is fucked from what I have seen. Hatchets still need reloading.. still funny as hell. Crowbars do not work. You can hold it like normal.. but you can not swing. They were crap before, but now are actually physically useless lol. Hatchets still taking up most industrial spawn locations. I think that covers it for today.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

    Working features: Higher frame rate. (tested on multiple machines) Zombie audio aggro is more reliable and predictable. Slightly quicker loading. Not working features: Skins are either gone or really screwy. My ghillie went bye bye. Zombies "chance" of seeing you is almost 100%. Able to see you from much further than they even hear a gunshot. (tested multiple times and areas/ weather conditions) Zombie respawn is instant. As soon as kill shot lands another spawns. Happens very often and in buildings as well. Killed 4 in a row like the little shack was a Pez dispenser (tested multiple times and areas) The variable visual and sound doesn;t seem to be working in terms of the weather conditions. EX: Rain does not seem to lower the visual chance of aggro. The "visual" monitor in the debug monitor seems to back me up on this. Also, are we supposed to have that visual indicator within our debug monitor? That tells us the possible distance of being spotted. Not sure if you left that there from your in house testing. It helps at the moment since the Zs have super sight now lol.. Loot seems very spotty. Could be luck of course. (We need to test more) My list thus far. Hopefully you see this feedback in this flood of useless posts. MY group will keep testing, but these are the big issues we see right now. :)

    Database cleanup [2012-07-03]

    Ander, In order to prevent the backpack gobbling up a weapon a player has to go into the pack. Then switch the weapon from the pack to being equipped. By using the arrows in the backpack menu. If they put an equipped weapon in the pack in any other way it will more than likely be eaten. I've done some tests with this. I've never had a weapon be eaten again since transferring out of a pack as opposed to the other way around. Hopefully that helps you guys find the code section causing the weapon munching backpacks.

    An idea submission/bug should be put in the proper place. Formatted something like this. Post title: Short and sweet (EX: Zombies clipping through warehouse back walls) Inner post test: Description of time, place, other factors. The more exact the better. EX: Zombies with green shirt skins regularly path through back walls of warehouses. My location was about center of the room. The zombie seemed to have aggro'd from outside of the building while i was inside. __________________________________ Ideas should be in similar format in proper area if you want them to be seen. Idea post: Survivor skill ideas/Time'd unlock perks Body: Your stuff. minus all the little sweet stories of waking up and thinking of DayZ like it was a person or whatever. We appreciate the love it gets and some of us share that. But, the less extra stuff needs to be sifted through before and idea is spit out.. the more thought and work can go into it happening or dismissing it as unusable. The more people get the idea of how to do things properly, the more work can be done to make things better.

    Wow you guys sure are whiny. Half of you cant read his follow up posts. The rest obviously didn't watch the interview stuff. I want more updates as bad as anyone else. However, not if they are going to create a super zombie madhouse like 1.7.1 did. Let them test the damn thing first and figure out solutions to the problems that came with previous builds. We are testers, learn what that means. We do dirty work and give feedback that will make the project better. You have a stable build to test right now, so go do it. If I was rocket, I would let you crybabies sit and wonder as well. To all you morons bitching about how you lost this or whatever, deal with it, that is the nature of the game (the grownup thing is to suck it up, go to the bug forum and post the instance in which the bug occurred so it can be tested and found). If you get attached to your items, then you are playing wrong. This isn't even the place to post your bugs. If you want to make an impact and get yourselves heard, go to the bug reporting section and offer feedback. Not pissing and moaning. No one cares if you "bought ARMA2 for DayZ", you aren't entitled to shit. This is a mod, in ALPHA, if you can't handle being a guinea pig and finding out what works or doesn't.. then door is over there. Come back when (or don't) when it is deemed full release. After the rest of the community does the real work. So one last time, bug forum is back two pages and different area. Same as the idea area. If you don't like it, or one bug made you lose your little toys and now the world is coming to an end.. then please send tears. /thread until rocket or a team member has an announcement.

    Well thanks. I just think it would be better to come up with solutions to a problem than argue back and forth on who is right. There is room for a way to do this correctly, so that everyone feels like they get the fair shake. There is probably room for improvement on the idea. But it seems like a good platform to start. Hell I would be willing to work with the system if it were set up. I never intend on owning a server myself, but I tend to be impartial on stuff like this. I really enjoy this game, even when the zombies go full retard and see us from a mile away..lol. I have every desire to see this succeed. So many ideas and possibilities for this mod/game could be seen. I have about a million ideas just myself, in terms of making the meta games within the game itself. Stuff I think would work great to make it even that much more fun for everyone. Sucks to see different sides of the argument tearing each other apart, instead of coming up with solutions. Everyone has to play a part to finally make a game we can all love for years to come. Players reporting bugs, devs doing that they do so well, moderators keeping things fair. People just need to check the ego at the door.

    The rules won't change unless there is a proper oversight. This could be done as such. First, a server could have a way to reserve slots for a set number percentage of people depending on the max payload of the server. Ex: 10 for every 50 players per sever. Server locking would not be allowed. Also server resets would have to run on timed intervals or have a clear problem to do so before said time. Secondly, to address server admins being dickish. Which seems to be the primary concern of Rocket. In order to properly prove a TOS violation you would have to allow for a rating system of sorts. When a player is disconnected from a server, they can properly rate the experience on very basic criteria. Also this would allow for a time stamp of a DC for times when there are kicks rendered. Rating system may be the wrong term, how about a feedback system during times of a removal from server. So, if a person is removed from a server after making a kill on another player, who we will say is an admin. Then gets kicked for it or what have you, there is a clear way to see a violation. The kicked player simple replies to the feedback popup and lists the grievance. If a certain number of these complaints arrive then the server can be barred from the server hub or have a warning/suspension. Now the problem with my solution is that there would have to be a person or people dedicated to the investigation of these feedback reports from kicked players in these circumstances. I don't know the way the DayZ team is set up or who they would need to do moderation on this level. Maybe get some good volunteers who agree to certain things (such as never owning a server themselves, etc) to be impartial and provide proper oversight to the system. I simply am offering a compromise. Feel free to add or what have you to this idea. I think it is in the best interest to compromise on the issue. It would make our community that much stronger while fostering a more varied and flourished server community. Proper quality controls and fair server rights. kind of like a fast food franchise :)
  18. This is a touchy subject for sure. I am not sure if it has a place in this game, however I do think there is a way to make it work. The only way the group should be able to spawn together or anywhere near each other is if they are ALL new characters. This would give the illusion of all were part of the same shipwreck or whatever it is, that leaves us all bare ass'd on the beach. If a player is killed he or she can not respawn to the group but at a normal random location. This would stop any kind of manipulation of the group system for griefing purposes. Additions to groups on the fly would work, because in real life you would look to increase your numbers, however, you must make direct contact with them first and not added from some menu system. I'm easily a hardcore player, I've played within a day or so of it going public. Play it a lot and for the most part solo. I don't see how it would step on my toes or screw up my play style in the slightest if these steps are taken. Why should I care if a couple guys spawn as new characters together on the beach? I'll still be out in the world surviving myself. Hell, it may even make things more interesting. Rival groups popping up and killing each other on servers. Territories forming and all that. I actually see a lot of meta game popping up with this. It would work well with some of his future features he has discussed. Like owning towns and such. It may even lessen up the instant KOS problem hampering the game. Too many of you clowns think the game is strictly a deathmatch game or something. Or are entirely too protective of that makarov you found.. lol. Why I barely even even go to major towns anymore, too many trigger happy newbs. Also why the older players are wary of even bothering to help any newer players. Why go try and help them, then get killed once they get a gun the first time. Then see their name pop up for getting killed 10 minutes later and losing all the gear they stole? Ok enough rant about that.. I don't see this being a bad thing for the game. Just ignore the couple whiners in this thread, crying about how it would be the end of the world. There is nothing wrong with new groups of new characters spawning together. If you want to que up and wait a few minutes for that, then good on you. If you don't want to group up then be a forever alone player. Deal with it.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update

    go outside... get your body down to the ground... crouching makes less sound then crawling. two feet on the ground makes less sound then your whole body. prone=less visibility more sound / crouching=less sound more vis. it makes no sense that you would make less sound when crawling through a field. Well to be honest that actually depends on the surface you are crawling on and speed in which you crawl. This being a video game and us all trying to help find a balance it makes perfect sense (within a video game). Plus if I am not mistaken in the game, the sound is still intensified by crouching over prone anyway. So even by your understanding it still needs to be tweaked, yes? The visibility check may end up doing the trick with all the visual/sound aggro woes. We will see shortly I am sure.
