Rifles, shotguns & pistols already seem to have a larger selection than automatic carbines, them only being three. Would SCAR-H, which use 7.62 and/or SCAR-L - 5.56 ammo seem suitable in the DayZ-environment?

Yes. I personally love the Scar-H, too. It's among my favourite weapons. Infact, I recently just purchased a newly-released Gas Blow-Back SCAR-H with a mechanically working cock-handle for my airsoft-collection!
