  1. Let's hope so. I know base building isn't a priority right now, I just hope it is eventually. I don't even really keep stashes in or near built structures anymore; fully improvised tent in the woods guy. Ideally, while I do want walls to have a bit more strength, I want there to just be more variety in terms of what bases can offer and what can be built. Things like generators, construction lights, don't really offer much in terms of utility and are usually just cycled out of loot spawns. I think the overall way in which structures are built is a bigger problem; it doesn't take much effort to hop inside or glitch through the top, and because building itself is so restrictive, it can make it hard to really fortify anything, and airlocks ultimately lose a lot of practicality. Vaulting makes fortifying existing structures even harder, if at all possible. The recent changes to barbed wire are such a good step in the right direction. And while I do agree that the average DayZ player isn't going to have 18 grenades on them when they run into a structure, it's not the average players I am worried about so much, it's the one exploiting duping glitches. Though, I will admit this seems to be specifically more of a problem on the Xbox than other platforms. But even then, enough buckshot and a vaiga makes a lot of walls pretty trivial. It's pretty easy to amass enough boxes to bust into a structure. Though, I haven't seen any info how much that has changed post 1.12 so maybe that's improved.
  2. They shouldn't be near indestructible, not sure where I said that? But they shouldn't take seconds to destroy when it takes hours to build anything remotely substantial. It's disproportionate. Daily maintenance means absolute dick when someone can destroy 10 walls in less than 5 minutes. There's absolutely zero point to base building right now. "Don't stash your stuff!" isn't a solution; it's an excuse for an underdeveloped and unrewarding feature. Stashing stuff in a player built structure is an intuitive thing that almost any new player that attempts to build a base is going to do. When they learn not to do it, it's because the meta of this game has shifted towards "base building isn't worth doing" and that sucks. This doesn't even account for the endless exploits and glitches that players can abuse to pass through walls or windows. Bases don't need buffs because of dupers, they need buffs IN GENERAL. If a core feature of your game is essentially ignored by a majority of the community because it serves no purpose, than that feature is broken. It's fine if you personally don't care about base building as a feature and want to make excuses for it, but a lot of the community does care about it, and right now, it sucks. It would be better off not being in the game in its current state because of how it's only ever abused by exploits. Short term solutions could be making grenades less powerful on walls or less abundant, and toning down the damage buckshot does to walls. Long term solutions could be adding other types of materials (the difference between metal and wood right now is basically non-existent), and letting us build roofs so people can't just effortlessly hop in. @Asmondian has an EXCELLENT post on this forum on some of the longer term solutions that could improve the feature that's highly worth reading. The steps the Dev Team made towards improving how bases were busted into several updates ago were steps in the right direction, but they need to keep going on.
  3. that's even worse lol. grenades are not rare at all.
  4. No contradiction. I think there are a few players, usually duping, who just roam the map with endless grenades and grief every base they can find. So the bulk of the player base, doesn't bother with structures or bases, and eventually, resort to PVP on the coast or the north, and eventually just move on from the game. There's an unstated psychological impact I think, especially for new players, that when your base gets hit, it's incredibly deflating. The first time, you think, ok, this is just part of the game, I will double down and build better. And then, when it happens, again, and again, and again, and all you ever see are similarly destroyed bases littering the map, you just give up and move on to something else. It's one thing to be defeated by players out smarting you or outgunning you, but when you find out it's just because of balance issues or exploits, it makes it hard to want to invest any time. It's just the Time Required to do these things, vs. The Time It Takes to Lose Them is maddeningly disproportionate. I actually think item durability and other things are steps in the right direction. Resources should be taxed. It should take a long time to build or gather supplies to survive. It should be a constant struggle. The problem is things like ammo, and grenades are just still way too abundant or overpowered. I mean the cooking pot trick on walls is such a joke. Other small things, like bears being way too easy to take down, or wolves needing a better pattern beyond "kill three and you're good" make the survival aspects of the game still somewhat trivial.
  5. It could be because on Xbox, duping is out of control, but every “remote” base (or otherwise honestly) I find, is busted open and empty within a day or so of finding it. Just a map littered with half finished or half destroyed walls and zero players around them. Or mega bases I’m populated areas that were clearly the result of duping, where people just endlessly murder Fresh spawns with their piles of duped gear, which also eventually become ghost towns. I’m speculating, but I feel like what ultimately ends up happening is people move to these seemingly remote locations, spend a day or two working on a base, only to have it almost immediately or instantly destroyed, and then get discouraged with that entire aspect of the game entirely and then just eventually just get bored once the PVP and loot grinds wears off and move on. I know for my group, we spent a few days really building a base, 5 or 6 airlocks, really fortified. Felt like no one was getting in. We watched a group raid it in less than 3 minutes, effortlessly. Just completely imbalanced in terms of how long it took to build vs how easy it was to see it get destroyed. We’ve never bothered to build again. So what’s the point of that kind of feature? This doesn’t even account for the myriad of ways players can boost into a base without blowing anything open. It’s like a half assed implementation that seems cool but ultimately serves no real purpose. Again, it could have been due to duping and those people having an excess amount of grenades as a result, but my overall point is that while it’s a sandbox game, there are all these half measures of things you can interact with and engage with, that don’t really serve any purpose. Honestly I feel like the game just isn’t punishing enough in terms of PVE? Wolves and bears are kind of joke now with shotguns, so food is ample. Weather is easy enough to manage. Once you get full on food and water it’s not difficult to keep it up. Players are always potentially a problem but again, if they aren’t exploring the map because there’s nothing to do or find, you lose the thrill or running into people. I mean how many times can you explore Tisy or Swarog and only ever find endless field jackets or field transceivers (another thing NO ONE uses) before you stop wasting your time. I feel loot shouldn’t be your only driving factor, and even that doesn’t go anywhere. It’s a sandbox but there’s hardly any real sand, Again; maybe Xbox servers are just so ducked with duping I don’t know. But the game isn’t fun lately.
  6. Ok, friend, whatever you say .
  7. There needs to be things that enrich that experience and make it tough. "Survive as long as you can" means nothing if the PVE is easily overcome after a certain point, and the PVP is heavily compartmentalized to one section of the map because nobody bothers to explore or stake their claim. Edit: The game has never just been "survive as long as you can." That's reductive. The game has always been, in theory, "Survive as long as you can against a myriad of environmental threats and player based threats." This is why the game has things like bears and wolves, and in theory, high risk/high reward loot areas such as military bases. Adding things like cars and bases gives players another resource to fight over, and another thing to worry about when exploring and "surviving as long as you can." If these things are trivialized to the point of not mattering or being useless, then the tagline of "This is your story" becomes stale very quickly.

    Console Update 1.12

It is entirely possible that duping is not achievable on PS4! It could very easily be an Xbox specific problem. Without going into details from what I have seen online on how this exploit is achieved, they use stuff specific to the Xbox platform. I don't know what this person is on screaming at you about; everything you say is totally valid.

    Console Update 1.12

I know the server problems with cars are well documented, by why is traction/acceleration, especially on hills and dirt roads, such an issue? It doesn't seem like a server problem, it's like the car just loses all ability to accelerate once it hits even the slightly incline, but there's no rhyme or reason to it. Some parts of the map are significantly worse than others. Was able to get out of this by zig zagging, but enjoy this with my buddy's commentary. Hopefully this is something that also gets a look. The car just grinded to a halt. It feels like it has more to do with the map itself or the ground? https://youtu.be/8s805Y3AALY

    Console Update 1.12

They did disable the eggs in the latest EXP update, hopefully this was why.
  11. See, this just feels like giving up on the concept of the game. This idea is just saying "There's no good way to balance these things, so they don't really matter, so don't bother with them. Just stay alive." With the time investment it takes to get these things up and running, these features, with this idea in mind, are functionally worthless. They are supposed to enrich the existence of your character, your squad, your life within the wasteland. So why even bother having them in the game? The idea that your "toon" has developed a home, an existence, carved out a slice of life within the apocalypse that they have to FIGHT for, that they have valuable resources like a car, or that if you decide to lone wolf it, your existence is that much more difficult. None of these things should be permenant, and the specter of loss should always be hovering over your head, but when the meta is such that it doesn't even encourage engaging with them, it cheapens the entire experience as a whole. The entire experience shouldn't be driven by the loot economy, it should be driven by the value of your character's life. DayZ has all of these cool extra features that no one even bothers with because they aren't balanced or useful in any meaningful way.
  12. I mean, I love nighttime, I just wish other people did. It kills the immersion when the sun sets and suddenly 6 people play. All good points though. I think when I say "endgame" I think what I really mean is investment. Even now, for most people, your character only has any value relative to what gear they have on them. This is part of why a lot of people stay near the player spawns; if they die, they can more easily potentially "get back to their gear". It's a silly way to play, but it's how a lot of people spend their time, which keeps the more esoteric parts of the maps empty, aside from a few key military bases, if at all. I just wish there was some kind of bigger payoff or investment for having a character alive for a significant period of time. The "open ended" side of the game is fine, it's just that because of balancing issues, a lot of the "stuff you can do" ends up feeling like a waste of time. Base building I think is really a potentially a key part of this, and you're right, there is an inherent problem with it in terms of how it could impact the loot economy, but I think that's all stuff that can be tweaked. Guns shouldn't be able to fit in crates, things like that. More punishing PVE and more varied threats could also incentive people interacting more., but improving the soft skills system could also go a long way as well.

    Console Update 1.12

On Xbox. I know PC has its own set of issues, but yeah, duping is specifically a bigger problem on consoles. alt accounts are super annoying but I don’t think BI can do much about that. Unless your login gets slightly randomized within an area? I don’t know. Honestly I think the only people building bases anymore ARE dupers. It’s so easy to bust in, anyone playing legit isn’t going to spend the time, but the people duping have no problem since it gives them endless resources. I also never really see bases anymore, aside from the absurd mega structures, which sucks.
  14. I think the biggest problem is there’s actually no real incentive to play at night, aside from atmosphere. But you’re only at a disadvantage, especially if you don’t have NVGs. There’s no upside. No special events, no chances for better gear, no different enemies, nothing. I get why people log. There needs to be some incentive to deal with night time otherwise what’s the point? Why not just wait an hour or two? Especially with lighting being as buggy as it is. That’s kind of the big underlying problem with where DayZ is at right now; and why Mods are so popular, There’s no incentive to do the “harder” or End Game stuff. Nighttime? What’s the point? Military Bases? Is it worth the trek when all you’re likely going to find is a tactical vest and an SKS or a hand guards for guns you don’t have? Cars? They can take hours to build, better hope it doesn’t skyrocket on you. Base building? Want to build a decent structure that fortifies an area? It will take hours to gather all the materials and tools, and it can be dismantled in minutes. There’s a huge imbalance with the time/cost the game requires you to sink into activities beyond the standard gameplay loop, vs. how easily these things can be rendered useless. It’s not just the permadeath nature of the game; it’s basic core features that have no real sense or balance or investment. Even the character has no attachment beyond gear. Soft skills are useless, Players don’t engage beyond PVP often because...what’s the point? What are you really missing out on? It’s frustrating.

    Console Update 1.12

All my complaints come from experience. Days after the most recent wipe, I found a stash of about 20 military tents. Since then, I've found similar stashes. The biggest evidence is the massive megabases people construct in hours. I posted video evidence of one of them. It's just stuff that by its sheer scope, would be in no way possible by conventional means, especially not in the time it takes these people to construct them. The one I posted recently was the size of Gorka. It's truly wild. It could be 3 people, it could be 20; there's truly no way to know for sure of course, but it's still a problem. The problem with the way this game's loot economy works, is that it only takes a small handful of people per server to dupe, to completely ruin it. But it's definitely not nearly dead. It may not be as easy to do as it was in the past, but it hasn't gone anywhere. If anything, it's more that the people who were doing it in massive numbers have just moved on from DayZ. Here's said example. We eventually made it inside after someone else had busted in and there was tons of sea chests, tents, obnoxious amounts of ammo, tools, etc. And this is the second such megabase found on this server after the wipe. And pre wipe, the problem was just even more out of control, so what likely happened is that patched one exploit, and the dupers found another. (Which, you can find video evidence of pretty easily. I've reported it to the feedback tracker, but *shrugs*)

    Stable Update 1.12

For what it’s worth, I rarely have issues with cars on console anymore, and I usually play on full or nearly full servers. Especially since I upgraded to a Series X. Cars run fine. Traction still sucks but I can’t remember the last time I Harry pottered in one. Definitely a overall server issue, but I’d love to see hard data on what types of connections and servers people are playing on when they see cars catapult. I’m sure it varies wildly. Maybe one day we will get a car focused stress test server to generate data.

    Console Update 1.12

Yeah, it's like they have no idea how bad it is, can't fix it, or just don't care. This is what people are doing on 1.12 on consoles with duping the Egg capsules. Funny, sure, but when you extrapolate this to the entire loot economy? What is even the point in playing this game? Duping is a PRIORITY issue. It utterly breaks the game, and it's been in this state for months. If you can't fix it, pull the game from the fucking store. Edit: The frustrating part is mainly the utter refusal to even comment on it. No update on if it's being investigated, on if there's any progress. Just burying their heads in the sand.

    Console Update 1.12

Yeah it’s really absurd. There’s only a handful of vanilla 1pp servers on Xbox, and all of them are stuffed with Dupers. The worst part is on top their huge mega bases, they dupe endless grenades and cooking pots, so if you try to build your own bases anywhere, they can usually bust in in minutes. Had a 6 wall deep base and we just watched this guys dismantle it effortlessly. Beyond demoralizing, especially when they have all the supposedly rare high tier gear they could ever want , and we have SKS rifles. Sucks. No incentive for them not to exploit and cheat. Only the players that try to play the right way get punished. And all that’s happened is most of my player group doesn’t even want I play anymore. Most have uninstalled. We can’t be the only ones. It’s truly awful for the health of this player base; and The Devs are just like, “check out the FAQ.”

Hopefully never. This would be terrible. Console players would get utterly stepped on by Mouse and Keyboard players. Not to mention the potential for hacking.

    Console Update 1.12

I posted video here not too long ago of one of the mega bases they put up in less than a day. It was bigger than some of the small towns. Just truly absurd. The loot economy is so screwed as a result.

    Console Update 1.12

I was mainly hoping for some more specific insight into if the current duping problems are being addressed or will be addressed soon, especailly since there was nothing about it in the 1.12 patch notes. I understand it's a FAQ, but it has no bearing on the current issue, and comes off as a generic response, because it offers zero insight into any progress or potential for a fix in a future update. It has nothing to do with how I "feel", this is how the response was presented. I understand that in your role you are just forwarding info and relaying stuff from The Dev team to us, but regardless, in this case, the duping is truly damaging the long term player base and viability of this game on consoles. It's a huge problem. A lot of players would just like to know if there is any headway being made into solving it. There was nothing in the patch notes for 1.12, so it's pretty logical to assume there is no fix. We can only do so much to inform The Dev team about these issues; it's not on us to make sure these problems are fixed, particularly when they cause massive issues within the game's stability and overall economy.

    Console Update 1.12

Linking to an FAQ from over 3 years ago? Really? Since duping is still a rampant problem, I’m going to take that as a “No.” Seriously, it’s beyond awful on console. It’s been reported on the feedback tracker, and here, countless times. The latest exploit on Xbox is all over YouTube and Twitter. The loot economy is beyond screwed, people build extravagant mega bases in hours, which screws up performance, and the official servers end up barren because people get tired of cheaters destroying the integrity of the game and looting becomes pointless because a handful of people destroy the CLE with duped stashes. That response very much like sounds like, “just tell them we can’t ever fix this issue, and we are tired of hearing about it, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
