  1. I think it's because since you're rapidly moving from place to place, you're spawning tons of zombies that end up not doing anything except running around. It was especially so with helicopters until they removed that.

    Hospitals are empty...

Med boxes still spawn, at least at heli crashes. Also, it may just be extreme luck, but both med tents in Cherno each had several antibiotics in them when looking around. Zombie doctors also have a chance to drop them when killed.

Are there drawbacks to the MMO architecture?

If you watched the videos at E3 you'd notice that running and gunning has such an abysmally low accuracy that it'd only be good for pushing through a horde while you're cornered. If you're trying to spray and pray at a player, he can just aim and drop you in three shots while your bullets are flying everywhere except where you're aiming at.

    Whats with my gpu?

There's your problem. Honestly, if you read up a bit on overclocking, it's not dangerous at all. Hardware in this age is practically designed for overclocking, with most hardware now having failsafes and throttles to prevent damage. You'd practically have to deliberately try to mess up your hardware to cause any damage.
  5. So after a couple month break, I decided to pick up DayZ again. I update everything and log on. My old character was reset it seems, but no big deal. Anyway, after circling around Cherno and getting some basic stuff, I take off into the woods. As I near a town in the holls, I decide to lower my gamma some, so I hit Esc. Suddenly, my entire screen turns a bright grey with the words "NO QUITTING" in standard ArmA 2 font. Aside from a single thump thump of a heartbeat, all I heard was hitting the ground like I went prone, and regular ambience. My controls were locked and all I could do was alt-tab and close the game. Upon joining the same server again, I was greeted by the gender selection screen and spawned a new character. I know that DayZ had anti combat logging features added, but I had not attacked or been attacked in at least ten minutes, and did not notice the presence of other players, and I wasn't very close to any zombies at all. Anyone have any idea what happened?

    "NO QUITTING"

I guess I should play in private, whitelisted servers. I just really like the public hive because if my favorite server is empty or otherwise unavailable, I can join any other server I want and continue where I left off.

    "NO QUITTING"

I had a feeling, but I wasn't entirely sure since I hadn't seen anything like that before.. Thanks for the confirmation.
  8. No, it was a private hive.
  9. I only feel bad if they try to be friendly toward me before I kill them. I was in Cherno looking for people to kill when I hear an Ural pulling in honking its horn. I make my way to them right as they were about to leave. They saw me and the passenger told his buddy to back up. I run towards them while they're telling me to get in (I was in camo clothing so they didn't see my baclava). I run up to the driver's side, blow out the window with my Remington and then perforate the driver's face with pellets. The passanger gets out and starts running for his life, so I shoot out his legs. He's bleeding on the ground, going "Whoa whoa whoa, come on, don't be like that, man!" I then shoot him in the head. I felt a little bad because I'm just perpetuating the cycle of "be friendly, get killed, stop being friendly, kill people being friendly". An admin then teleported to me, took the Ural, and set off a satchel charge. Thankfully I ran when he appeared so I got to keep the loot. But if I'm just sniping people on the coast (both bambis and armed survivors), I don't feel an ounce of regret.

    Concerned about Standalone Interiors

I doubt it. Rocket stated that the reason DayZ ran so poorly even on high-end computers was the zombies. Since they're just hacked soldier AI, each zombie did tons of calculations that weren't even necessary. You can see this for yourself. When you're joining a server and you're waiting to create, you'll see something like: 2: 286, regroup! 2:107, where are you? 2: 305, fall back! This is left over AI barking orders that don't do anything, wasting CPU. Not only that, each finger bone in a zombie is also calculated, and is equally useless. Each zombie needed multiple passes to render. All of this will be shaved off, allowing more zombies and more objects while still running as well (or bad) as the original, or perhaps better.
  11. Yeah, if you click submit and nothing happens, don't click submit again. Even if the page doesn't refresh, your post still made it though. Clicking multiple times will just make tons of duplicates.
  12. Holy duplicate threads, Batman!
  13. I heard that the infection can go away if you lose more than 12000 blood total. Try stuffing yourself with meat over and over until you're back to 12000, then let it go back down, repeat, and see if it goes away.
  14. Does this work after you've already played a bit on the new character?
  15. Out of the countless times I've died since I started playing in May, I've only died once to zombies. Okay, it was one zombie. And it knocked me unconscious when I was >9000 blood. For over two minutes.I still don't think it counts since it was a bug. Anyway, how many times have the infected gotten you, and how?

    Counter-Sniping Tips

Also, on Sniper Hill, there's this particular spot that people tend to prone at. There's a stick-post fence with a couple bushes alongside it with a clean path overlooking the power plant and supermarket. Inexperienced people tend to go there to snipe. Just today, someone called out in side "Any friendlies in Elektro?" I was on the opposite hill to the north, and the fence was the first place I looked. Lo and behold, there was a guy prone underneath the fence with an M24 out. For being so friendly, he had a surprising amount of weapons and ammo. (Honestly, anyone with a sniper rifle saying they're friendly is lying.)
  17. I think you misunderstood my post. I don't care about not having awesome tacticool military weapons, and I don't mind the ones that already exist being removed. Just a few more civilian weapons would do. Currently there are: Three shotguns (technically the WInchester is a rifle) Eight M4/M16 variants (one removed) Four AK variants Seven sidearms L85(removed) Three submachineguns (one removed) Winchester Lee Enfield FN FAL Crossbow Seven marksman/sniper rifles (five removed) Three LMGs (one removed) Two melee weapons One rocket launcher (presumed removed) Total remaining weapons: 33 Weapons that are or are derived from the M16/M4 and AK: 11 The AKs and M16s/M4s take up a third of the remaining weapon pool in DayZ. This leaves a very bland variety of guns to choose from. What I suggested was that more civilian weapons would be nice, and possibly have a few of the AKs and M4s shaved off as well.
  18. Mod looks interesting, but I don't like a bunch of weapons being removed without adding new ones. Makes it feel like there's a lot less variety to choose from. Once new weapons are added to replace the ones taken out, I'll give it a shot.
  19. People say reading is hard, but some people can't even listen well either. The standalone won't be as trusting as ArmA II. They're going to prevent any and all external scripts and programs from mucking up the game and "completely lock it down" as Matt said.
  20. Terrain detail and view distance are locked by the mission. This is to prevent removing all the grass and for people with really good computers to have an advantage by seeing people twice as far away as normal.
  21. You know why I like to shoot people? The thrill. In just about every modern FPS in existence except Counter-Strike, you respawn almost immediately. "Aw, I got shot. Oh well, I'll just press F and immediately put myself back in the game to shoot more guys." In any modern FPS, death has no meaning. You can kill thousands of others and not think anything of it. In DayZ, that isn't the case. When you die, you die. One wrong move, and potentially hours of effort into your character just vanishes. The same is true for the other. Because of this, the sense of loss comes with a sense of self-preservation. And due to that, when you feel threatened, you get adrenaline. No other game has the same sensations. I remember being in the NW airfield with my friend, holed up in the ACT with my friend, armed with Lee Enfields and Winchesters, being suppressed by four bandits armed with military-grade gear. The adrenaline of shots whizzing inches past your head, and the excitement of actually coming out on top and killing all four of them cannot be felt in any other game.
  22. So I heard that when you switch clothes, the backpack you are wearing gets replaced by a dummy one. So I dropped my ALICE pack onto a loot pile and switched into camo clothing. Like expected, I ended up with an empty copy of my backpack, but the one I had dropped had disappeared, taking everything it had with it. Thankfully, I had sort of thought ahead, and put my weapons into a separate pile, but still If you put on clothing, your backpack disappears. If you put your backpack down, it disappears anyway. Did I do it wrong, or is there really no easy way to secure your stuff when changing clothes?

    *facepalm*

Had lost all my medical supplies due to a bug, so I went to the hospital at Cherno. I had picked up an empty tin can from one of the apartments and stood about 5m from the window. I threw the can at the window, and it just bounced off. I was sitting there wondering what happened, when I looked up at the corner of my screen, I saw "Throw: 1" All my cousin heard while he was providing overwatch on the hill was "OH GEEZ" *boom* At least the M67 I ended up throwing broke the hospital windows when it exploded.
