    Chernarus 87.8fm

That would be a lot of fun, I always grab walkie-talkies (+bat) and have yet to find anyone on them. Or at least anyone willing to respond.

Dayz: the Road to Beta - PAX Aus Presentation

Progress is looking nice and I see the haters have quietened down a fair bit. I think this conference finally put to bed a lot of concerns and arguments amongst the fan-base. Just hoping the patch will deliver a semi-stable experience with new infected numbers. Not expecting anything, just more desire really. On a side-note, does anyone remember when they were talking about 2500 infected per server?
  4. I'm more interested in them bringing the infected back... oh yeah... I went there.

Intentionally ruining clothing, and blood as camouflage

I'm not sure how plentiful food would be in such South Zegoria or anywhere for that matter. Infected would have killed the wildlife and humans would have finished the rest off relatively quickly - weeks to a month. Then it would be a year for any numbers to begin replenishing. Also, how many edible plants and bushes can your average person (without access to the internet) actually identify? I will relent all this needs a bit of balancing, but I would like to imagine by the time this game goes 1.0 cannibalism will become a very viable option for survival unless you are organised and have prepared some small farm or stored food somewhere. I think food is quite plentiful because base building is not implemented fully yet.

help (How do i make a fire?)

Combine some rags (cut a t-shirt up) and sticks (chop a bush down) then use matches to ignite. If you don't have matches take a bit of bark off a tree and combine with a stick to make a hand-drill. Enjoy and be careful where you set the fire up lest you attract some unwanted attention. :)

    Self medicated

To be honest, for this reason alone I think it should be left in. Imagine; you're in a fierce shoot-out and you see the enemy trying to revive their friend and all of a sudden they drop dead beside them. Comedy gold.

    Self medicated

LOL, that is a dichotomy... no reason you can't self administer any of those. Though I like the way it is; it builds dependency on teamwork.

    Tractor

I would rather a motorbike but any addition of vehicles is good. :) EDIT: I'm thinking the tractor is probably on the way... :)

    [Poll] Official servers 1pp only

I hate toon as well, sounds like something to do with Bugs Bunny. I agree with you though, there will definitely be a shift in the player base by the time the final game comes out. But it might be nice for BI to think of content creators in this (and other ways for motion picture capture) as they are a great part of the community, in many ways quite important like modders. But I agree. it isn't enough to sacrifice the DayZ experience, any good content creator will be able to overcome such hurdles.

    [Poll] Official servers 1pp only

To be honest Actually, if there is one solid argument supporting 3pp it is this. Content creators would lose a major feature and that might cost the game fans through exposure in the long-run. But perhaps they could mitigate that with a recorder like Halo used to have where we had unilateral camera positioning.... but that won't happen...

    Payments and fees

Yup. BioHaze is right, the sooner you buy the cheaper it will be the less you will know about what you are buying. :)
  17. Binoculars you look through them like you would holding a gun. (Default right-click) Though you're better off just using a scope off a gun, usually take less space. Fires you need bark from a tree, combine that with a stick to make a hand drill. Get kindling and some sticks and off you go...I'm sure there is a wiki somewhere for crafting and stuff...

    [Poll] Official servers 1pp only

I would imagine it is because there would be more of an onus placed on it so newcomers would be more inclined to go for the official route. The intended design for the experience in the game. 3pp would still be there, just not actively supported as the true DayZ experience.

    [Poll] Official servers 1pp only

For immersion there is little to no arguments that could support 3pp vs 1pp. For PvP it is the obviously better choice, especially if your gaming style is competitive but I would be more inclined to visit 1pp by default if there were more servers full up for sure. But these hybrids have to go unless it's some sort of private setup because that becomes grossly unfair as soon as it is a 2v1 situation. If we were forced to a camera per-server then at least this could be curtailed, but now if you are engaging two targets they can use the different cameras at different times and give themselves a huge advantage over a barricaded individual who could have had the element of surprise otherwise. Which could be a VERY useful tactic in this game but is completely negated by stupid around the corner no risk looking.

    No Message Recieved

This could be a tough one... is your cousin using same provider or literally the same connection going through the same connection point/router? Have you tried different ethernet ports in your router? Is there a connection timeout or automatic reset option set in your router? Firewall settings? I assume you tried wireless if available? What kind of ping loss if any are you experiencing when this is happening? Does all your internet on the computer cut out?

The problem of DayZ SA - thread #999

Well I largely agree with both your final points. But luckily for now the onus does remain on "seems" as opposed to "is". Yes the blogs dying off are not a good sign, but then having a tumblr was silly to begin with. It is a professional setup which doesn't need third-party blogging sites to deliver its message. I think we actually seem to have a similar scope of the situation in many ways just different results expectations or maybe I'm still just stuck somewhere down fanboy alley. Then again you could also be professional complainers ;P so this argument could go on :D. Either way the next 6 months are absolutely crucial for DayZ, its player base and the developers. A lot of long time fans' patience is running thin whatever way it's cut as this is the time the game needs to start taking shape. It has indeed been frustrating with many aspects for me too.But at the very least I will give them a standard games development time; 3 years. On a sidenote; I will be truly curious to see how many complaints die down after 0.59 if everything promised is delivered. 75 player servers and large concentrations of zombies is definitely saying what we want to hear. EDIT: I will add in though; all judgements on engine and in-game performance for at least a few more patches should be reserved. At least until some work is actually released.

    pre .59 hype

If we don't make beta by next Christmas I'll be disappointed. If we do make it sooner without major patches I'll agree with you, but the evidence currently points to the contrary.

The problem of DayZ SA - thread #999

Well these people are mad in my opinion. DayZ without infected is just nonsense. Appreciated but no apologies necessary. Glad we agree :) Meagre is a matter of perspective and opinion. Saying it may not ever get released after less than two years of active development, not withstanding the delays which any reasonable person would understand from following the development notes and presentations is completely unfair. Even Indie games would find it hard to complete a project of this scope in such a timeframe. And the scope has grown too. No one ever expected the sales they got so things got changed from a small team building around a passion to multi-national co-operative flagship product. I don't ignore what you say, just try to stick to important points and finish because, funnily enough, I was going to play the game before getting myself embroiled in this mess! ;P I didn't play the mod, don't want to, from what I've heard it is a little more stable but functionally more limited. Either way, mod is not the topic, the development of this game, its speed and foreseeable future. You've answered your own points in many ways. They were understaffed and overwhelmed for a period of time this year and dealing with multiple teams across diverse languages and cultures. Also, a roadmap is just a guideline not a be-all-end-all of project planning. On the other hand, I agree that a lot of what was planned in 2015 has yet to come to fruition, but I'm also not sure if something being developed instantly equates to bring released to the general populace. We don't even know enough to speculate. As for comparison of other games, see my above post to obi_lipnik about the time it takes to develop a game, or better yet go and check how long these projects take versus the amount of people that is working on them and compare that to DayZ SA day 1 to today. However I will relent to at least one point; I can't see a workable beta before summer 2016 without some major patches being implemented and unless there is some crazy surprise in store the change logs haven't been entirely truthful. Though they still have lots of time in real-world comparative development terms. Roadmap is meant for guideline purposes, not deadline. Deadlines would rarely if ever be disclosed.

The problem of DayZ SA - thread #999

It is and from what I remember this is one of a very select few games/developers that has allowed access from so early on and involved so many players at most points of the development. It's pretty uncharted territory for most companies. Consumers would not normally have access to the game at any stage of development until at the very least beta as you said, and that then is only on AAA titles or in closed circumstances, so any perceptions or expectations are mute. Also, watching the game grow pixel by pixel might give the game a "watched kettle feeling" when you can play with that pixel. Thinking about it, it's actually quite normal for developers to release small screenshots and concepts for about 80% of the project term and only start showing real game-play once the game is close or hitting Beta. So everything we are experiencing is still probably more than 90% of games that ever come out until they come out. Well yes and no. Functionally players are a sort of "beta tester", officially though, you have been warned. As for development, it seems pretty on schedule coming into two years. If you include regular delays which are seen across all titles in the industry that could easily stretch to three and it would still be within reasonable development times. I agree with you on one very important thing though; people are just not used to being on this side of the game. In my opinion, this is what fuels most of the dissent and misunderstandings. BI and players tend to tell people to hold off on buying the game unless you want to actively aid development and deal with bullshit. Can't help it if some people want to throw their money at the project with no obligation or knowledge.

The problem of DayZ SA - thread #999

Nobody said Infected being removed are a good thing. But most have tried to just look at it as a positive opportunity. I truly do not know anyone that is not eagerly anticipating their return very soon. Also, your innate knowledge of the development process without being able to comprehend that some things are temporary is contraindicative at best. Just because solutions are available does not mean they are effective, sustainable or the immediate concern. Anyway, it is going to be fixed sooner rather than later, so really a non-argument. Finally; And yet here you are?! Ignoring the fact "a few hours" is hardly enough time to explore a tenth of SA, you've even reneged on your very own roadmap to judgement.
