Learning how to craft different things by reading books
Konfucious K replied to Realtarquinn's topic in Suggestions
Yeah I thought it would be more of a fun idea for giving basic instructions of things anyone can do anyway not as a "licence" to perform these things. No I think if you combine sticks, burlap sack and rope then you should always get a backpack regardless of whether you read about it or not. It would just be cool for some of the more obscure recipes that one would not normally google for... like a Stone Oven... -
This suggestion will stop most Server hopers
Konfucious K replied to sneakydudes's topic in Suggestions
It would be easier to make Heli spawns completely random anywhere on the map, at least from my non-developer point of view as I am not sure how difficult it would be to code in. Ammo needs to be a lot more rare too, but that kind of change is easily done when all the testing is out of the way. It is probably beneficial for everybody involved at the moment to have every kind of weapon all the time to get the most use out of testers. Then when adjustments to the economy like this are made they are to a perfect game engine and you are not picking up broken weapons after searching for hours. -
Of course these notes would have to expire at the same time that persons character does? As once you die you begin anew as somebody different. Otherwise this would just turn into a stalking feature.
-
Nice, that saves me a lot of time!

I remember reading somewhere that it is also dependent on the amount of items you have in it at the time. But never got around to confirming it.

Learning how to craft different things by reading books

The books are one of my favourite features of the game. Hopefully they start putting the full versions of non-copyrighted work in there but as for the OP, I think a few instructions here and there could be very helpful and I know a library would be one of the first places I would visit as soon as I had food and a weapon. -
Should have kept it, just saying... Though it's great to see the Developers are finally getting to live their digital-fantasies out...

There is defnite "soft-skills" system being implemented but chances are any sort of real-time monitoring won't be available. Perhaps an online history of some sort may be made for the stat-whores but no, you can't be a level 1 and have to use more bullets to kill a level 2 or anything. It is more about the amount of items you have that can deflect bullets, clothing, health/blood condition etc. Logging off saves your last position and character, but make sure your coast is clear as there are minor delays and you can still die from being shot for a few seconds after. Servers range from 0 to full (75 at the moment). Yeah, vehicles are being introduced really so they are in and out but the truck is always there and the zombies needed a bit of an overhaul to improve performance amongst other things so the pain was/will be worth it in the end when 0.59 hits stable.

Experimental & Recent update troubles.
Konfucious K replied to cornflakesx's topic in Troubleshooting
Some folks have blamed Avast on the launch issue but best place is to keep tabs on this thread as there has been discussion on it and a fix is pending so hopefully it will solve your issues too. Shame this is how you got introduced to DayZ but probably for the best :), at least you know what to expect until we hit Beta next year. -
Experimental & Recent update troubles.
Konfucious K replied to cornflakesx's topic in Troubleshooting
I had a similar issue before but it was fixed once I had done what you did; disabled firewall and verified the game files. What GPU are you using? Although the is currently a launch issue with Experimental since yesterday so this may have something to do with your problems too. Are you trying stable or experimental? -
There is only one way to find out as some people will tell you it is amazing others will tell you something else. Fact is there is zombies, there is vehicles and the population is irrelevant because servers hold 75 people so you really only need 74 others. But one thing is for sure, no one on my friends list played this game for any less than 100 hours so for an unfinished buggy mess of a game that is freaking awesome! As for your character; yes you lose EVERYTHING when you die, and thankfully that is how it will always be. --------- As per the thread; I've been thinking; with early access you pay less and get to participate in the development and watch the game grow in real-time. But when you pre-order you get none of those things. pay more and have to accept whatever is handed to you and it generally goes unnoticed. Somehow this early-access has given people some sort of entitlement feeling to this game and I would love to know where that comes from and what is exactly owed to these players? For shits and giggles more than anything but maybe there is a reasonable argument out there as the "you're late and there is no zombies when there is" bit is getting tedious.

State of Development: The Future of DayZ
Konfucious K replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
LOL... I was coming in with my boxing gloves thinking "Another one of these threads!" :p. Cool summary dude/dudette! Quite a lot of reading so I'll leave it till later when I'm in bed but good job! -
Yes. This is commonly referred to as "double carrying".

Spawn with random genetic predisposition to diseases to add variety
Konfucious K replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
That sounds like a cool Mod idea but I would prefer everyone starting on an even keel or if worst comes to worst then add it as part of the character customisation to better fit ones playing style. But primarily against any modification like this, I believe basic survival should be the biggest hurdle anyone has to get over. Though I know they are expanding the diseases and injuries repertory so maybe this might be a nice compromise for your suggestion. -
Woah, woah, woah... woah, hold up there, they're not? That's it, rage quit! On a side-note, if I ever play 3000 hours of a game I get pretty burned out. At least for a little while, but to play so much time in a game is a rarity and generally falls into the top-5 games of all time that I played category.

I will leave it in the quonsa huts at NWAF for you. :P

No problem, delighted we could help shed some light! I think it is more that DayZ is being designed ON Intel/Nvidia but they both have their strengths it is just that AMD is a little behind at the moment. Though the Fury X is a beauty of a card and the new Zen line of CPUs is bidding to be quite a stunning architecture when launched so who knows what the next gen will bring. But yeah you will definitely enjoy your R9... I loved my one!
-
To be honest, even on low settings you are getting pretty good frame rates, especially since you're using AMD processor which are notoriously weak on single-core performance where DayZ is probably most strenuous. Although I've yet to play the game since 0.59 came out, just waiting for my next PC parts to arrive this weekend. But yeah, you've taken a huge load of the processing off your CPU and moved it to the GPU so it is no surprise the computer is running much smoother.

My return after a year long break - Disapointing
Konfucious K replied to blehan9390's topic in New Player Discussion
Just a note but the game has changed quite significantly since November last year. :) Mostly feature and building expansion but content is easy to add later. -
Sounds like you went from using integrated graphics to your R9 255. Although I assume the 30-40 fps in cities is highs as opposed to averages?
-
The good news is it will probably run it sufficiently when the game goes into Beta but at the moment I would agree with the above, the CPU and integrated graphics would just struggle with any sort of meaningful experience. Even with dedicated GPU this game is hard for a laptop to handle at the moment. Though the meaningful experience is very subjective too, some people don't mind scaling their settings back to pixelated horror, others like me are perfectionist media whores and keep trying for better. :) Maybe if you find a way to keep the turbo on the CPU consistently turned on but that probably opens up a whole new range of problems.
-
What's wrong with your text? It's a bit annoying. :) Item transfer has to have some level of awkwardness I think, but some sort of streamlining could be nice.

Unicorns in the forests. End of.
-
If you have guns I really don't see why you can't negotiate some food off other players  no need to take an arm and a leg, but that option is there too.
-
It's really not that dependent on your rig. I've played this game on probably half a dozen different hardware setups and generally found similar performance as long as the settings were appropriate. Some anomaly exceptions but nothing to write home about. To be honest, 25 FPS in the cities is pretty top (unless something changed in the last two weeks?) but you might be able to bump that up a little if you follow the advice given above, Nice rig by the way, not a bad investment at all. :)
