Ahh I see, no peppers for you either then! Well these clowns were pretty gung-ho with their approach, all over the place with their shooting so definitely not snipers by trade. Although I was very slow in my reaction, I think I really just got lost in my peppers!
-
Haha, good one, you actually got me for a second... but it thought it was strange that someone would admit to KoS...then again, nothing technically wrong with it I suppose...
-
LOL, was that actually you? You didn't even say anything, was it just you by yourself? Two? Three? What was I wearing? I'm not sure I believe you...
-
Had something similar happen up at my farm in Sosnovka where the guy gave me a Sword! I was delighted, only the second time I'd ever had one. But of course it was shortlived as a couple of minutes later I got ambushed by a couple of KoS dicks... never even got to see if my peppers grew...
-
Yeah you're probably right, but the more of these spots there is it helps to decentralise the PvP. And I do like the idea of a car mechanics depot or gardening centre.
-
This is really cool idea. There really is room for a couple of small additional buildings spread around that would motivate players to travel across the map. An Ikea would be perfect for base building!

What was it like the first time you ever saved someone?
Konfucious K replied to Inception.'s topic in New Player Discussion
Well I've never had the pleasure of meeting anyone in danger who didn't shoot at me also but there was one situation way-back-when I was on the coast, coming to the end of my patience with DayZ and KoS, when some of the latter types started taking teasing pot-shots at me. They could have easily killed me but instead wanted to break my legs, which they did. But at the moment where I was going to just rage-quit or even turn to the Kill-on-Sight darkside myself; two Ghillies emerged from the tree-line sporting some very potent weaponry. Though it seemed like they didn't need it as with surgical precision they took all three of my attackers down with no more than 3 bullets. It was a beautiful symphony of skill, coincidence and karma. After they'd patched me up the two nice German Samaritans instructed me to stay down until they left and that I could take all the loot from the attackers that I'd wanted. It was that day that I really realised the potential this game has if you stick with it... -
Well done, nice catch. Hopefully this is enough to get the fool banned.

Perfect time to buy it as a gift for a friend! :) Not really anything strange here though, happens to me all the time on Amazon and is perfectly normal practice; when I buy something I immediately go back to the product page and often enough find that the price shifts, and most of the time it is downwards. Every product has a base price but depending on supply, demand, season, and special or geographic promotions it can fluctuate. In other words, anyone who bought the game at launch probably got it at the best price it will be for quite a while yet. Unless there is some crazy Steam -80% price day but we can't begrudge people those..

You'll be ok to run the game on low to normal settings I think. A bit more RAM wouldn't hurt and if you can OC the CPU a bit it would go a long way too.
-
That processor is nearly ten years old... it will struggle and I am not sure it will run at all.... sorry.... If, and that is a BIG if, it does run it will be on very low everything and I am not sure how enjoyable that will be. Edit: You might be able to over-clock it with a decent cooler installed which would give a boost. Considering how old it is I'm sure there is plenty of literature out there on how to get the most out of this CPU.

How do you craft a padlock? Anyone got a link to a wiki for base building?
Konfucious K replied to GrenadierTater's topic in New Player Discussion
Craft a padlock? I'm guessing wait for base building to be implemented into the game... there is a lock-pick you can use to lock yourself in a room? Here is a decent place for DayZ SA info. Not the most intuitive site but should have all the info there. -
Considering the geographic location and cultural norms in the area we are lucky to have as many weapons as we do. You'd be lucky to find one firearm for every ten houses in "reality". USA is the only place in the world with such a high frequency of weapons and ammunition. As for food, if you've ever worked in a supermarket you would see that the stock would not last a few days let alone a week before being virtually depleted. Non-perishables, chemicals and cleaning/bleach isles would probably have SOME stock left but the rest would be gone before the "apocalypse" would even start up properly. Naturally growing resources would not be maintained and be picked or die off quickly and animal live-stocks would be depleted within the first season as no laws or systems would be in place to control populations. Not to mention the infected would likely kill them too. Rats and birds will probably flourish - there is a good source I suppose. One thing I would say though, there should be a lot more crashed/abandoned delivery trucks and cars along roads which should be a good source of supplies and at least some farmhouses should have working shallow wells with suction pumps as they generally have independent water systems.

The biggest FPS drags in order for me have been 1) Shadows (always at low now) 2) AA (off) 3) HDR Quality (Very low) 4) Internet/Server connection (This can be number 1 sometimes) Edge smoothing can give a couple back too but generally if you're hitting 15+ in heavily populated cities you are doing well. :)

I'm starting to learn C++ because of this game - just loving the direction it's being developed. Infected are starting to sound more cohesive every month. But you really caught me out with the small object manipulation. i don't know why but I had never considered using a vehicle to smash barricades in this game. Those V3S's and Buses will become quite a valued commodity! Keep up the great work everyone!
-
Yes and no - the plan is to have as many zombies as is possible and this will be dictated by the capabilities of the game engine and your general PC hardware. One can safely assume if it isn't developed in time for release it will be one of the first DLC's/Add-ons/Mods. Best source for all the info would be status reports, the last 4 or 5 since August/September have been great and very informative on many topics. :)

Well any sort of rudimentary filing system whether customised or not can be used for identifying certain demographics/clans/individuals and you could be sitting in a bush at night without them being any wiser. Then once you had confirmed it was a safe/noob/gullible etc. you could decide to make your move. I'm also not seeing the link or parallel you're drawing between player identification systems and knowing the game map.... From the sounds of it you want a way to identify someone with little risk, otherwise why not just say "hello, it's so-and-so"?
-
I'm pretty sure he was indicating how far back this suggestion goes. If you stick around the forums or do a quick topic search you will see how often it actually is brought up.
-
Been suggested many times and I would be shocked if the idea wasn't one of the first the developers came up with. It's just a case of being able to handle so many dynamic events happening server-wide along everything else. Definitely would like to see it but haven't seen any comments about the possibility of it. That's not to say there isn't any.

An oil rig off the coast could be cool, could throw a couple of tankers docked if it's not big enough. I would imagine a creative individual could adapt a significant amount of the existing models from SA for this. In fact, come to think of it, it is quite surprising there isn't one already around Czernarus... or a massive pipeline somewhere. How does Elektro even run? Imported coal?

Revenge after getting Killed by a Player
Konfucious K replied to [email protected]'s topic in Suggestions
Get killed recently? Have a lot of good gear? It would be too easy for squads to abuse this and feels way too L4D to me too... -
"Nail Bats" and other (realistically) crappy weapons
Konfucious K replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
I'm just not a big fan of this weapon (IRL) in general, but it does have a certain iconic status so it would be weird to have an apocalypse game without it. Anyway it's in now and looks pretty cool, but when it was first put in it was quite overpowered, I think it may have been scaled back a bit because it took me three solid hits to take an infected down with one today. As for the original post, I've been hit by a baseball bat and I guarantee you that experience would NOT have been enhanced by several rusty nails sticking out of it, adrenaline or not. And I "won" that fight in the end! -
So does anyone know what kind of data usage DayZ needs to run? I'm on mobile internet for the next week and was wondering if anyone ever took metrics... Google tells me it works out about 130 megabytes an hour? Is this figure from 2014 still valid?
-
I'll start a log and see, (I have to anyway :P ) but initial figures seem to fall well below the above. EDIT: So pleasantly surprised and very happy so far. Over the first six hours I recorded 15 megabytes average per hour (+/- 10%) on a medium to low pop server with no player interaction. Though I did kill about 20 infected in Nowy Sobor. Going to need to get better software to adequately monitor DL/UP on each system process rather then all LAN traffic in one but looking good!
