    It's happening...

Well, that needs to be fixed asap.

    It's happening...

what? You can one hit kill cows with sticks and apples?
  3. Battery powered quadcopter/drones? :D With camera attachment being possible (must find a camera and controller first though) Also you should have to find the rotors, and other parts, then build it yourself. But, being more serious, there should be a civilian helicopter (no weapons attached) and a much more rare military version with some guns attached.

    Vision nerfed yet again?!

I actually prefer the zoom to be like it is now. It makes finding a pair of binoculars or scope feel like christmas! As it should be.

The new 3pp camera and FOV Slider

It's more over the shoulder than it used to be, but it took me a minute to notice aswell. Also, you can change "shoulder view" by pressing Q and E(Changes camera right/left), you now need to hold them to do the wiggle.

    It's happening...

I punched a cow to death earlier this morning, chased it through some fields until it finally got stuck in a bush/fence cluster. I felt kind of dirty afterwards. Also, serverside performance seems to be alot better, even with zombies. Which is good news.

The new 3pp camera and FOV Slider

Hey guys, just thought I'd leave this here. http://imgur.com/a/SoBY2 It seems that we can still look over walls, however, this is only the first implementation though. But, should we lock the FOV to a certain point like described in the last couple of pictures? It seems like a fair way to go? What's your thoughts about this?
  8. Julianwop (DayZ)

A hold-to-interact action button, and apple trees.

Would be a nice addition though.

    Trophies (kind of, pictures inside)

You..I like you. I'd imagine a couple of chops with an axe should do it though. But the hacksaw, machete and sword would also do the trick. But sure, why not scalps aswell!

Soft skill - Crafting and re-using ammo.

I'm sure 95% of the current population(as it is in real life right now) would have no idea how to do this, but you fail to consider that those remaining survivors we're playing in DayZ have already been surviving the apocalypse for a few years. (pulling this number from my ass) but look at the environment, the overgrowth, the rusty cars, etc, obviously the apocalypse isn't something very fresh. And I do believe they will add some sort of soft skills to your character creation menu later during development. It makes sense that someone who's been alive for years in an apocalyptic environment have picked up a skill or two, be it from other survivors, military personel, medical personel, and so forth. Also, in real life you can actually fire 9mm without hassle from a .357 revolver. No need to change cartridges even. Not necessarily good for your gun, but it works. So no, I don't see it as unrealistic or too easy at all, quite the contrary. I think you should be able to choose lets say 2 minor and maybe 1 major skills, out of maybe 10. It would increase the chance for people wanting to group up with players with a skillset they might be in need of. And all skills should have upsides and downsides. The downside of the skill I have created here would be the gun blowing up in your face, potentially breaking arms or killing you. Besides, you would still have to scavenge for everything, the way I put it it's actually harder than the vanilla gameplay, because you'd need 2 matching types of ammo to be able to create more of one. You would need x amount 9mm, tools, a workbench, + empty cartridges from the ammo-type you want to end up with. AND when you finally gather all this stuff (you have to remember, you have to carry this around, sacrificing valuable slots in your inventory you could have used to carry food, drinks, etc. Is it really worth it?) it could potentially kill you as soon as you try it out. Still too easy for you? :) edit: something happened to the format..

    Trophies (kind of, pictures inside)

Hi guys, I have one last idea I just wanted to share with you all. I have seen in the games files the models of both a Wolf and a Bear. And it got me thinking; How about if we were able to skin them and actually wear their pelts as a cloak or a hood? Or have them as a rug in your base, or hanging on the walls. (for when basebuilding gets implemented, or you want to decorate a house) I mean, if you've actually survived a close encounter with a bear or wolf, it would be nice to able to atleast have a throphy of sorts from the encounter, right? A survivors badge of honor if you will, since when you live to tell the tale, why not be able to actually prove it instead of just bragging about it? Something like this This would be awesome for a hermit-like playstyle, combined with the improvised leather armor. And now to the darker side of things..... We already have the possibility to kill and skin humans, but, what if when skinned, we could keep the skulls or heads of the players, combine them with the long sticks, and have heads on spikes? I know, I know, it's a bit morbid.. But it wouldn't really be any worse than what is already in the game, cannibalism, skinning of humans, piles of rotten dead bodies, guts, torture, brutal executions, etc. I mean, this is an 18+ / X or R-rated(whichever rating scale your country uses) game already, right? Imagine the roleplay possibilities as a cannibal or psycho, it would be so thrilling. Just picture this... You're running through the woods, it's nighttime, apart from the dim light cast by the torch you're carrying it's pitch black. You think you see something up ahead in the darkness, when you get closer you can barely make out the shape of a base or a house, something. then suddenly they emerge from the dark, their rotting dead faces send a piercing sensation of fear throughout your body, as you realize you've walked straight into a cannibals lair. A shot is heard nearby, you panic and run, another shot goes off, then.. You are dead... WHAT A WAY TO DIE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN! I wouldn't even be mad, I'd be happy to go like that. Or just simple things like coming into a random house, or down a random street, to find a severed head lying there along with some guts. If that is not story worthy, then I don't know what is. Please, let's create a horror experience like no other survival game have done before. - Julian

Soft skill - Crafting and re-using ammo.

Hey guys, Julian here again, I've got another idea that I think might be kind of cool to have in-game. Crafting your own ammo - a soft skill What if they did like in Fallout New Vegas, gave you the possibility to craft your own ammo, from other types of ammo. Let's say you've found some 9mm ammo, but you need .357 bullets for your Magnum/Repeater instead. Take the gunpowder and bullet, find some empty/used .357 cartridges/shells, a workbench and maybe some tools required to do the actual crafting. Bullet dimension for 9mm is .356, bullet dimension for 38 special is .357. If you reload you can typically use the same bullets for 9mm Makarov, 9mm Luger, 38 Special, 38 Super, 357 sig, 9x25 Dillon and 357 magnum. I feel certain I missed a few calibers, but you get the general idea. It all depends on the caliber of the bullet, not the cartridge. And it should all be done with soft skills leveled over time, think Skyrim, the more you use the skill, the higher chance you get in successfully creating functioning ammo. Higher skilled ammo crafters could create f.ex worn (and eventually if skilled enough, and/or by a % chance) pristine ammo. And the other way around; Let's say you're a low-skill/novice ammo-crafter, then there should be a slight chance that you damage/ruin your weapon if using self-made (damaged/ruined, based on skill) ammo. Maybe even causing you to take damage because of it. Other additions to soft skill-crafting using gunpowder could be improvised pipe-bombs with triggers(tripwire, lead pipe, a battery, gun powder), improvised flashbangs, improvised flares and so on. Sky's the limit. - Julian
  13. Hey guys, I'm gonna throw a couple of Ideas out there, I'll make separate posts for each idea. Edit: Kind of did a 2in1 with this one though. This is how I imagine interacting with the environment or items (more specifically food and drinks) should be in DayZ. I'm sure you've all been killed because of - or have grown tired of being locked in place in a animation while doing mundane tasks such as eating, drinking, searching for apples and such. And with the current state of these functions, you only have the "cancel action" mechanic to abort said action, which with current lag and performance issues, really isn't all that reliable. A hold-to-interact-button (search/eat/drink/apply bandage, fill gas) mechanic would perhaps be better? When the apple-tree or food/drink/action is 100% done/consumed it auto-stops the animation, when you stop pressing the button down, it stops the animation. No more locked in place for x amount of time doing [insert game mechanic here], so that if you get shot at, you can instantly stop whatever you're doing and run away, return fire, find cover, etc. However, when engaging in an action such as eating, picking apples, drinking from a bottle, one should be able to move, but maximum movement speed should be walking. Having to stand still while drinking or eating doesn't really feel realistic. Drinking from/refilling bottles from a pond or a well would still require you to sit and hold button. For this to work it would have to be client-sided actions, I guess? And apple-trees should have a max amount of apples per tree, kind of container-like, with a respawn timer. Maybe with the possibility to chop the tree down, in order to reach the remaining otherwise unreachable higher growing apples? I think that would encourage players to go exploring around the map to find apple-farms, and maybe even causing small territorial disputes because of them. I can picture clans fighting over control of a city/town because of it's natural resources(apple farms, fishing ponds, etc), and I think that it would bring more purpose to exploring, and immersion to the game. - Julian
