  1. would agree that it's a bit to frequent to be realistic or authentic or whatever. however it does add a bit more tension by creating situations that approach desperation if you start to starve, and forces you to get yourself into potentially deadly situations trying to find provisions. if it were closer to reality, you'd not have this anywhere as frequently or ever. personally i like it, but you have a valid point.

[/quote'] Ignoring the OP (He's really just trolling) it's already been explained that hackers do not develop on live DAYZ battleye protected servers. They just don't. End of story. Single Player was causing people to build hacks however and that is why it got removed. Security compromise? fucking please. Between the Russians shitting on HIVE servers and hackers turning this game into a joke (battleye is shit) I don't think you can tell me it's a security breach. I could script a hack blindfolded for the asseye if I was 14 and thought that kind of shit was cool and fun ruining peoples experience.   8. I quite agree it would ruin everything and kill the soul of the game. I love though how you think that because something would be insane and make no sense it could never happen. I am in a better place anyway now after being given the links to the thoughts of the man himself on pricing. As I said earlier lets not panic as interviews can often be inaccurate or quotes taken out of context. And still can't find the original source for that interview. :( i tried looking for the kotaku interview briefly as well to add to the sticky, didn't get too far though. if you find it, i'd be grateful if you (or anyone) could pm me the link.

  11. not within scope of the project afaik. any private servers out there will likely not synch with master server and are generally frowned upon. only advice i can give you is to make sure everything is properly installed and configured, and then look for lower ping servers that are half full at the most.

  13. that was not the initial design goal. the initial design goal was an authentic experimental anti-game/art piece designed to invoke emotions in its players. you can call it a game if you'd like, but you're imposing your desires and labels onto it and they do not coincide with that of the mods developer.
  14. hit f to cycle through your options for primary fire button, will display what it's bound to in the upper right. should say something like hatchet up there. at the moment you have to reload the hatchet before you use it.
  15. i don't think so... i know the average survival time only accounts for lives over like five minutes or something. and on the subject of numbers, unless i am misinterpreting the information on the day z homepage, and i have screwed up my math, 20.07% of all survival attempts (which i assume means characters that did not succeed in surviving, correct me if i'm wrong on this) have ended with a player being killed by another player ((bandit kills + murders)/survival attempts * 100). but based on above assumption, that doesn't count instant spawn kills.
  16. death match is primarily our problem to solve. you dislike it? form up a squad to police servers (or one specific server) and hunt down bandits, nothing's stopping you and it would be a much appreciated endeavor. bet it'd be pretty fun and satisfying too. disconnecting exploit will be addressed i'm sure, but it has to be addressed effectively without opening up more exploits. a lot of the people complaining that i've seen here (forums in general, not this thread specifically) did not do proper research on the mod before hopping into it. for example, the zombies aren't supposed to be the threat, people are. it's supposed to be brutal, impossibly hard, and unfair, it's designed to make you feel frustrated, the players should be the ones determining how the game world is, not the devs etc. to them: caveat emptor, before you buy anything you should research the product. as for private servers, might happen in the future, who knows. i like the persistence and planned standardization of the current model personally. single player is not currently within scope of project as far as i know.
  17. i think, but am definitely not positive, that if a server modifies it's night/day cycle such that it is constantly one instant in time forever, nothing will spawn as all zombie and loot spawns are based on time. that could explain why you enter servers with 0 zombies (i'm assuming the debug reads 0 in game). not sure about the groundhog day thing, sounds like the servers may not synch with the master server/hive/whatever.
  18. i support stealth fix wholeheartedly. regarding this post, i just unearthed the following regarding increasing persistence of body after disconnect: "The only reason it's not longer, is to avoid the issues of body duping. To get around this and have a longer disconnect time, I would need to add another level of checking. I don't have the time currently, so its something that can be expanded, but I need to do a first level test to see what the effect is." - http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10908&pid=100635#pid100635 and otherwise i'm unsure how the arma 2 engine handles alt-f4 stuff, or how easy it would be to modify. pretty sure it is a priority and will be solved eventually though from what i've read.

In all my time i have killed 3 people all in self defence, whats the big deal with hurr durr i'm gonna kill someone for better gear because i cant spend a few days gathering my shit? Lets see when you get killed for that one piece of equiptment that you have been spending literally days to get, see that rage? that would make me stop playing and i'm not stopping anytime soon. In the end its not really something you can change, say i find a nice spot to logout and my char stays there for x ammount of time after, whats to stop someone finding me and killing me in that time? death is supposed to come all to easy in this mod, and is supposed to have consequences. if you are using exploits in order to avoid death because the game is about gear to you, you completely miss the point of the mod. you may consider playing a game that is more loot centered where dying isn't quite as easy/sudden and has less consequences, like world of warcraft, diablo 3, etc (this is not a judgment on the quality of those games, and i don't wish to disparage you from playing, just to disparage you from exploiting).
