if by end game you mean release features/mechanics: complex and authentic animal hunting in the woods. tracking, using deer calls, doe urine, things like that. maybe more dangerous animals like mountain lions, bears, etc. perhaps some wandering groups of zeds in the woods... generally i'd like to see the wilderness get filled in a bit more. ability to construct fortified encampments or shantytowns or something like that would be cool, maybe with mounted guns for defense. having the possibility to clear out towns, and then maybe have said towns come under siege from infected hordes occasionally. harsher environmental and medical conditions. psychological effects from stress, horror.
  2. i'm partial to the winny. 15 rounds, quiet, one shots zombies, ammo is relatively common. haven't even come close to trying out all the weapons in the game though.
  3. unfortunately i'm not sure you'll get that: The greatest threat comes from the breakdown of society and from other people, not zombies
  4. run to the outskirts of the nearest town. look for buildings you can enter. scavenge them till i have 1 food and 1 drink and whatever else happens to be in loot piles, head inland looking for deer stands and barns to get weapons. after that, plans vary.
  5. i think you may have that reversed from the initial intentions. could change though, who knows. relevant quote: greatest threat comes from the breakdown of society and from other people, not zombies: http://dayzmod.com/f...__80#entry67314
  6. difficulty. tension. frustration. map size. immersion. i've never had to orienteer in a video game like i do in day z. the rewarding feeling you get when you survive despite how everything is pretty much stacked against you.
  7. they should be all working now. those guys posted shortly after the forums transitioned to their new format. if anyone does happen upon any that are not working or mislabelled, do let me know please.
  8. only if you fully understand exactly what day z is, is supposed to be, and where it's going according to the developer. be aware that making you feel frustrated is one of the design goals. caveat emptor.
  9. these days i dunno. in fallout 2 you could kill pretty much everything though, children included. there's also mods for the pc version of fallout 3 that allow this behavior.
  10. oh, and for the record, the movie was salo, here's the quote
  11. very yes, flesh hungry murderous children-monsters racing towards you while howling inhumanly is disturbing. plus they'd be harder to spot. potentially adds another level of emotional complexity to the game. plus with no female zombies, and no child zombies, chernarus evidently had some serious population growth issues. country was doomed to collapse before the infection even hit. using firearms doesn't seem consistent with current infect behavior to me, plus arma 2's AI is kinda aimhackish at times. skins as loot? definitely. like this idea quite a bit actually.
  12. i would argue that multiplayer is a huge aspect of this game even without global chat or friendly strangers. the real danger in the game is people, not zombies. AI is easy to fool, humans are a whole different story. plus you can still meet up with people you know or have met via websites or clans or whatever.
  13. these are probably stupid and irrelevant shot in the dark questions, but do you have a firewall that could be causing any issues? are all the proper ports opened up for arma 2 on relevant devices between you and the net? have you tried running the ping command in a command prompt to see if any of your packets are being dropped to other servers?
  14. i'm assuming it was daytime in game when you played. they are pretty easy to avoid when it's dark out now.

    Rocket's overall plan.

taking a break from compiling quotes for a second to respond to this in a more in depth manner. first, things are probably broken, i haven't tested it in depth but so far i've done okay in game. either way, things will be adjusted, people should have some patience regarding this stuff and not fly off the handle after every update. rocket has said he set out to create an experience that was brutal, impossibly hard, and cruel. so your initial comments that pretty much use these words suggesting that this is some sort of experience killing surprise, or were not a clearly stated design goal are somewhat perplexing. that people enter this game expecting anything but dying a whole lot in very unfair circumstances confuses me. it has been said by him that this is not a zombie apocalypse simulator going for realism, but an anti game mod that strives for authenticity. you cannot say how you would prioritize anything if you have never coded anything, and have no idea how the whole system works or where exactly it's going to go. finally, if you are looking to make a legitimate helpful contribution to the community and developers regarding... anything, here's some things you should avoid: make accusations about design goals without researching make accusations about whether or not a build has fulfilled the developers design goals lacking any sort of patience while playing a work in progress pointing fingers at members of the community, calling them names and then expecting civil discourse (this will bypass any valid points you make and instead turn the thread into a useless insult battle between the two extremes) complain instead of providing calm feedback about your experience assume you know everything/anything (deliberately destroyed his own mod?) about someone you've never actually met in person in short, things are probably broken. you've likely raised some good points in your critique (complaint?), but you could have framed it much much much better with so many less accusations, assumptions, and name calling obscuring any legitimate complaints you have made.
  16. they can be tough to avoid/ditch, but there's tricks to get around them (for now). it gets easier when you learn these tricks. the biggest starting advantage we have is that we have brains and they're just AI.

    Rocket's overall plan.

while i appreciate your consideration, lube is for amateurs!

    Rocket's overall plan.

i'm totes in! let's get this shit started!

    Rocket's overall plan.

would just like to add that i have never seen rocket use the word fun to describe his design objectives for this mod. i have however seen him use the word frustration in instances in which he talks about the emotions he's trying to generate. i would also caution people from speculating on whether or not rocket's priorities are good or bad or whatever, as only a few people really know what's going on behind the curtain. anyways, continue the love fest gents! HUGS ALL AROUND!
  20. system is modular, takes about 1 hour to have working on another map: http://dayzmod.com/f...t__80#entry9184 changes in spawn locations would be more sadistic if they change, more rp elements planned, selectable player models in future, alpha is to get features working, map issues addressed later: http://dayzmod.com/f...nto/#entry10169
  21. poe's law! oh god, i don't know what's real anymore!
  22. This guy right here' date=' stupid anime avatar and all, is exactly it: Even though DayZ is an alpha undergoing public testing, he says everyone should just stop complaining already. Be NICE to DayZ! no mean criticisms please! well, no, it IS an alpha, it IS broken, and people WILL complain about it. And they should. They really, really should. The first sign that a game's community is in decline is that it can't tolerate criticism and negativity. (see the Bioware forums for an excellent example) [/quote'] Sorry you are too young to know WTF Mega Man is...go listen to your Lil' Wayne mixtapes chav. "MOM, ITS NOT CARTOONS, ITS ANIME, GOD" This guy right here' date=' stupid anime avatar and all, is exactly it: Even though DayZ is an alpha undergoing public testing, he says everyone should just stop complaining already. Be NICE to DayZ! no mean criticisms please! well, no, it IS an alpha, it IS broken, and people WILL complain about it. And they should. They really, really should. The first sign that a game's community is in decline is that it can't tolerate criticism and negativity. (see the Bioware forums for an excellent example) [/quote'] i agree with you to an extent. however i strongly disagree that they should complain. they should certainly provide constructive feedback on anything that is bugged or broken, and continue to help evaluate the build and see if any changes in playstyle/tactics overcome any bugs. i think the reason the core userbase is less palatable than it could be is the general level of hostility and emotional posts made on both sides. These kind of hyper-sterile, 'be nice please!' discussions go nowhere. You're stifling actual feedback by demanding it be nice enough for you to accept it. no. what i'm asking is that people be civil to preserve civil discussion. if people post a hyper emotional, accusatory, complaint (not feedback) they cannot expect to have anything but similarly hyper emotional, accusatory, immature and unconstructive responses. THOSE stifle any sort of constructive discourse and derail them immediately into childish arguments. look if i call you a whiny child who's not playing as intended and that you should go back to call of duty, or that the game is fucking broken and the devs are terrible monsters who eat children and hate you and any concept of fun and anyone who says otherwise needs to stop being blind idiotic fanboys, is your response to come back at me with a reasoned, well thought out message that accurately defends your point of view and points out all the flaws in my argument and moves the discussion forward towards a resolution tot he conflict? or are you going to come back at me with insults because i attacked you? THAT's what's wrong with this community, if anything. note, i do not believe any of the above posted accusations of cod kids or fanboys, i am using those as examples.

  24. i was going to post a response, but really i think the best explanation is given by rocket in those links as to the meaning of authentic vs realism in this context. my interpretation would either be parroting what he said, or muddying it up and thus damaging.
  25. And the other person say this is a realistic zombie simulator. I don't know what to believe. this is what you should believe the game is supposed to be until the dev says otherwise: day z was designed to be impossibly cruel, not as a game, as an experiment, an anti game: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=588&pid=4431#pid4431 http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7740&pid=72431#pid72431 humanity system, not a game, emotions: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=588&pid=4468#pid4468 http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=6408&pid=60854#pid60854 this is not a game, it is art designed to generate real human emotions, frustration included: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=125&pid=6296#pid6296 his intention is not a simulation, or training us to survive zombie apocalypse, it's to force us to make decisions and generate emotions: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=125&pid=6280#pid6280 not realistic, authentic: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=672&pid=7367#pid7367 http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11283&pid=109345#pid109345
