keep telling you man, it's not being designed as a game, but you keep ignoring me: intention is to generate emotions, with frustration high on the list: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/108-coop-server/page__st__20#entry6115 system allows you to play and experiment and will result in cruel, horrifically unbalanced situations, player behavior won't ever be regulated: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/520-the-pvp-discussion-thread/page__st__180#entry4344 impossibly cruel, dark, brutal, an antigame not designed to be balanced: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/520-the-pvp-discussion-thread/page__st__180#entry4308 mod about art, your story: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/261-a-plea-for-more-servers/page__st__20#entry2785 i don't think this mod is for you ultimately because you're looking for things that aren't intended to be in here.

i think when you get to that point, it's up to you to create your objectives. if you limit yourself to killing others that's on you. other people have started medical services, trade systems and locations, supply lines, etc. this mod isn't supposed to constantly shove objectives and gameplay styles down your throat, it's here so you can make your own.

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/888-if-this-was-an-actual-game/ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/5682-is-rocket-satisfied-with-us/page__st__40#entry59327 http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/8005-would-you-be-mad-if-they-were-working-on-a-separate-game-instead-of-a-mod/page__st__20#entry83157 game companies sell licenses and access to source code for engines frequently. look at the unreal engine as an example, many games have been made using that, which is essentially another game's engine. rocket is also contracted by BI presently so he's probably got some connections with them. i wouldn't be particularly surprised to see it developed by BI with rocket as lead dev. plus with all the attention dayz has gotten in the industry i'm guessing he's already gotten offers from companies.

WTH, teleported back to the south??
[email protected] replied to Stry423's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
this reminds me, i had to manually update battleye recently because it was unable to auto-update while playing and i would get kicked as a result... maybe that had something to do with it? -
WTH, teleported back to the south??
[email protected] replied to Stry423's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i do not recall if i was stuck at loading or not unfortunately. i do know that i've had seemingly longer loading times recently though, not sure if it's patch related or game server related. -
WTH, teleported back to the south??
[email protected] replied to Stry423's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
happened to me last night or perhaps the day before. logged out south of staroye, logged in and was near komarovo. not sure what happened or why. -
i agree, but a lot of the things he criticized were not relevant to the initial concept behind the mod to begin with as stated by rocket (whether zombies or people are the threat, this being a zombie apocalypse simulator, etc). plus there's tons of threads about these things. i think those things generate some animosity in people on the other side. plus some of the way he framed his criticisms ("alpha my ass") could be phrased in a much less incendiary way. personally, i don't really care either way, but if the point is to avoid reactionary posts, there's steps that could be taken to minimize them.

you might be in for some disappointment in the future: He is not trying to support/remove pvp, we decide how world plays out, don't look to him for balance, there is no balance other than the balance players put in He will not balance the game, feelings re:dm complaints, advice to those who complain about dm The game will not be changed to balance things, players need to change to the new environment

Night servers gone?
[email protected] replied to Caine Hollow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
same. pitch black, cloudy sky, no moon. so they're out there. -
on the first point, this was never designed to be a zombie survival simulator, so i'd think it's okay that it fails to achieve that. on the second point, the infected actually run faster than players. i would agree about infected all over the map. the mod was designed to have people be the number one threat, not the infected so seems like it's achieved its goals from your perspective. on the third point, i would say banditry and the threat from other players, the utility of others adds a whole shitload to the game, and as a result players actually make the game better, but this is opinion. i would not be opposed to increasing other threats like temperature, infected, animals, and so on. fourth point: i don't think its been in alpha too long at all, especially when you think about the regular dev cycle time for triple A games which have large teams, and then consider the fact that this started with one guy who made an alpha mod experiment that gained 400,000 testers in the span of 3 months. also i'm pretty sure BI has been working to squash bugs due to the popularity of dayz, but i could be wrong on this. fifth point: i'm not sure if the map is necessarily too large as it is too empty. i like the size of the map, but there's not much in between key points on it. i have mixed feelings on this point. sixth point, i did not buy this game because of the hype(however i did hear about it because of the hype). nor did i buy it because it was supposed to be fun. shit, i didn't buy this game period, i bought OA for dayz after researching dayz and finding out that it was not designed around fun, but around being dark, brutal, and impossibly hard. the idea of a game designed with evoking emotions(both extreme frustration and elation), sounded fantastic to me, and i've had an amazing time with it so far, despite the warts. i also sincerely hope that fun does not become a part of the vision for this, and that it stays true to its design pillars.

unsure, but i'd ask/search on the server general forums if you haven't already -
Temperature system either broken or pointless
[email protected] replied to Shag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
dropping some quotes on temperature that seem relevant to this discussion Temperature is a balance of all in game factors at the time, # is percentage not celcius, fahrenheit, etc How to raise and lower your temperature in game also, there's a slight chance to get an infection every time you take damage, and as other said to spread infection to nearby players. -
off the top of my head i cannot recall any direct quotes from him stating explicitly that it will be built on arma 3/RV 4. that doesn't mean he hasn't said it however. i am pretty sure that he's been contracted by BI to work on arma 3, and he has said: Has a hard on for Arma engine so it seems pretty likely. side note, thanks for asking this, brought to my attention that i had a link error in my post.

Dayz becomes stand-alone game, what happens to us?
[email protected] replied to erikgmez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i got about 150 hours of play time for free out of this mod which is more than i get from most games these days, so i'll be purchasing the stand alone to, if nothing else, pay rocket back. plus the i'd like to support the philosophy that day z grew out of. any extra playtime from the stand alone at this point is gravy. -
my head hurts because of this thread whatever happened to this? can we let this thread die now please?
-
respectfully, you pretty much missed the point of this mod, and i do not believe it is for you. reading a bit more about it would be useful i think.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
[email protected] replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
if i see you, but you don't appear to see me, i will not shoot you, and i will move away from you asafp, even if i'm need of supplies you might possibly have. if i have good gear and you have a weapon and see me, there's a good chance i'll open fire at this point due to sheer paranoia. my preference is to duck into cover and ask if you're friendly if i can though. if i'm met with silence after this, i assume you are hostile and will act as though you are. -
just some questions that will help me.

in case you have other questions regarding server naming stuff, this post should prove helpful: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/15359-server-tags-demystified-how-to-find-the-right-server/ -
DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
[email protected] replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
in order for a business to fail or be failing, it has to run out of resources due to releasing a product that no one is purchasing. i'm guessing BI is seeing record revenues right now and could probably even expand its team as a result of the increase in sales. if you want to say the engine is failing, it would have to see an ever diminishing player base, which also is not the case. i'm really not sure how you could look at any of the numbers for arma 2 sales or players right now and conclude that it's a failed project, even if it's all due to one mod for the engine. -
DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
[email protected] replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
even with all the bugs, i love the arma engine. no other fps out there does what it does. i'm really not sure any other engine could produce the same experience dayz provides. i sure as hell don't want the map divided up into instances in order to reproduce something the size of chernarus. considering that dayz has upped the sales of arma2 1000%, kept it on the steam top seller charts for weeks, i'm not sure how you could call it a failing series. -
World too big for own good?
[email protected] replied to Necrofix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i don't think the world's too big necessarily, i just think the wilderness is too empty so to speak. -
there's also hacks that spawn npcs out there, such as:

UnderGround Base or Living Area Disccusion
[email protected] replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
like the camo idea. haven't thought deeply enough about build location restrictions, but it might be cool to be able to build under a town, so i'm not sure about that. he's mentioned generators in the past, so i'm assuming they're likely to be included in the future. -
