  1. i'm hopeful for multiple different custom maps. ideally i'd like to see an area of earth made into a map/maps, preferably incorporating the area i live in. i'm also kind of hopeful for community generated maps, though i could see this being abused unless there is restrictions imposed either via the stand alone's engine, or some sort of analysis/vetting process from the developers. it does also bring up an issue with moving a character from map to map when you switch servers running different maps though.
  2. wasn't so bad, lots of skimming for a couple hours here and there. all worth it if people have found it useful, which i assume they have based on beans given and # of views.
  3. regarding your signature op, last sunday, players in the last 24 hours was something like 160k, this sunday its at almost 190k. the consistent upward trend in the number of players in the game strongly disagrees with your assessment that the game is dying.
  4. i orienteer my way around the map. much more interesting that way. wasn't in the boyscouts though.
  5. silence here means he's busy, but will still read forums even if he doesn't reply: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/24765-rezzed-172/#entry264030
  6. not in the kind of darkness you find in the middle of the woods away from civilization on a moonless night they don't. if you don't believe it you should try it sometime, i can recommend a good spot.
  7. i realized last night while playing with some friends that this mod plays more like chess than any other fps i've played. i almost don't want to play other fps' in case bad habits resurface in dayz.
  8. that's fine, and it helps make this game the awesome emotional experience that it is. just don't have any disillusions about the fact that you're potentially having a negative impact on another person in reality for your own personal entertainment. if that's the type of person you want to be, so be it.
  9. well, if knowingly negatively affecting another person's mood in reality is worth doing for shits and giggles in video game, wouldn't knowingly putting someone in a good mood in reality by doing a good deed in a video game be even more worth it? i mean, unless you're an asshole. ultimately i wouldn't care though. i'd rather get killed by some selfish asshole in a video game than be a selfish asshole in reality.
  10. i've seen rocket talk about generator functionality being added in the future, and also(i think, don't quote me) those portable light stands they use in night time highway construction. dunno if that's still planned though.
  11. because most people dislike night time, there's less chance of this as servers that are night time are usually at like 10-20 players. shit, i've only ever been killed by players when it's daylight in game. plus you can just turn on your flashlight for a second, get your bearings, move for five minutes or so, turn on flashlight again, get bearings, repeat.
  12. very agree. and be able to run without the flashlight being rendered useless.
  13. yup, gets real damn dark up here at night. great for stargazing, especially in the winter. to those who say there's no incentive to playing at night - with zeds being more visually oriented now, it's SO much easier to sneak around them at night and maintain stealth. you can pretty much crouch-run within 10 meters of them the whole time (depending on the surface). if it's too dark, pop a flare and throw it nearby, you distract zombies, get some ambient light to help you see, you just gotta be cautious about bandits and quick to leave. you also get the benefit of the north star for navigation. i almost prefer to play at night at this point.
  14. responding in order: this isn't supposed to be a game unless rocket has changed his objectives. it's supposed to be an experiment and antigame that does something different from every other game out there, so that addresses whether or not it wants to become a real game. 1.) end game play only becomes hunting for better gear if that's all you can think of to do. other people have found other self made objectives to complete beyond gear. one of the major philosophical motivations behind this mod (as best as i could tell at least) is that the developer should not hold the players hand and dictate how they play the mod, what their objectives are, etc. if you're bored once you have all teh phat lootz, it's your responsibility to alleviate that boredom somehow, not the developers job to hard code objectives into the mod. players as zombies has been thought about and last i knew it was outside of the scope of the project. 2.) banditry will never be punished. adding AI soldiers would take resources away from other things, like handling more players per server or more zombies per server. i also don't really want the world populated by npcs that favor one playstyle (bandits vs survivors) over another. 3.) i think having all the good military loot in only a couple spots around the map does a good job of drawing players towards those areas. it makes these areas unsafe and increases tension and paranoia in these areas significantly. i wouldn't mind seeing huge hordes pop up every now and then, but again, i'm not so keen on the AI soldiers. 4.) i'm neutral on this as i haven't thought it through too deeply. would make sense i suppose, depending on how far in time we are from z day. not sure how it would affect resource allocation though, i believe there was some technical difficulties with vehicles in the past. 5.) load times seem to vary for me from server to server. faster is always better though. and finally, if you're bored and all you can find to do is kill players, perhaps you should try something different? perhaps you could try helping people instead of killing them?
  15. i've heard 80 meters for voice, 40 for text. haven't tested it for confirmation though. i think it's also directional.
  16. if the only thing you can find to do after you get basic survival squared away is kill other players, that's on you. plenty of people have found other things to do.
  17. there wasn't already targets painted on the heads of anyone who moved anywhere on the map?
  18. "No, private servers aren't allowed. ... So ask yourself, do you think you are really helping the project? Branching it right now? Is that what this needs? Why did you even do it? To make things better for a few people? This is a techdemo/proof of concept to, oh I don't know, do something really really special." http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/9875-kronzkys-sp-hack-removed-his-words/page__st__40#entry102912
  19. i was offended if that counts.
  20. nope, never done anything like that.
  21. Life expectancy on front page based on character alive longer than 2 minutes, there was precision error long time ago
  22. i'm a little late to this party, and it's 7 pages deep so i may be saying something already pointed out by others but... sounds like you're part of the problem you complained about.
  23. i don't think the leg breaking and one hit ko's are glitches, i think they're part of the game and part of the brutal, unfair, authentic stuff. i also don't think the aggro ranges are bugged, at least from my experience, it's just much more visually based. if you stay out in the open standing up while moving, while a zombie is facing your direction, eventually you'll get seen. if you stay pinned to the side of a building prone without moving the chance of being detected decreases significantly, but is still there. however, i've spent a good deal of my post update time playing on night/dusk servers, so that skews my perspective (MUCH easier to sneak at night than during the day now). i could be wrong though. i really really hate to parrot this regarding the rest of your post, but it is an alpha (i feel dirty), and a mod, and we are testers and we need to keep that in mind. it's better to have all this shit happen now and get locked down while we're playing for free than to have it happen post release when we've possibly paid for it. just gotta have patience in the meantime and find what enjoyment we can. if you can't find enjoyment, then i'd wait till things get ironed out to play. plenty of other things to do out there, it is summer after all. i have no problem with people expressing differing opinions, so long as they're informed. a good deal of complaints are about things that dayz wasn't meant to be about or address from its beginning (it may change direction though, who knows). examples of this are pvp complaints, zombies not being the primary threat, balance, and other things that try to skew it towards the safe, controlled, hand holding quest type end game stuff where everyone gets a trophy that pretty much every game adheres to today. i put time into the sticky in the hopes of diminishing these things and making that info more available.
