Yep i am done, i quit

it certainly makes sense to think of things like that, and i can't fault anyone for approaching dayz that way. i try to avoid it though, because it seems like it could get frustrating that way (since death comes swiftly and easily). i try to think of each life as playing out the story of one survivor during the apocalypse, and that death will be inevitable (and hopefully unique) for every survivor i play.

Yep i am done, i quit

i'm not saying it doesn't look like a game from the outside (meaning outside of the inner workings of the development team), but i am saying that it was not designed to be a game from the outset by rocket. the major goal (as best as i can tell) was solely to generate emotion and experience for the players, not necessarily to have winning or losing conditions unless the players set them themselves. so if you see survival as the condition in which you are succeeding then sure, you're winning! if you see it as orienteering across the map in a certain amount of time without any help of maps, then you're winning! etc, etc.

it was never designed with that in mind. it was made to be an antigame, experiment, NOT a game. it seems to be a common misconception that it's supposed to be a game round these parts, but that wasn't the point of it from the very beginning. i can supply quotes if you want, or you can read up on it on your own.

put log out timer and make guns do less damage to players

log out timer like that, in which you log out but your body persists carries a serious possibility of body duping exploitation, so that probably won't happen. having to wait 20 seconds to log out doesn't sound terrible though. as for less damage to players by guns, i strongly disagree with that. death needs to be fast, easy. the experience needs to stay brutal, unforgiving. you take away that aspect of gameplay and you lose a huge portion of what makes this game so compelling.
  6. i'm a little biased here, but i'd love to see the white mountain national forest area, or a part of it that includes a city like north conway, made into a dayz map. pros would be the huts scattered throughout the wilderness, seasons, and tons of trails throughout the area. cons would be the scarcity of civilization to an extent... there is towns and cities on the outskirts, but there's a large area between them that's pretty much all mountains and forest. here's some pics to potentially support my bias:
  7. i whole heartedly support this sentiment and do not want to see it fade into obscurity.
  8. another part of what makes this whole thing different is the fact that it's on the players to shape the world. there's plenty of organizations out there (medics and freeside are two that leap to mind) that are shaping the world in a different manner than just KOS. if you're bored, try something different! we're supposed to approach this with a spirit of adventure and experimentation, to not look to the developers to necessarily shove things to do down our throats. that's part of what makes this whole thing great. at some point in the future, i plan on spending a day or week or something hanging around the coast and gathering and handing out supplies. if i get blasted repeatedly, so be it. i'm skeptical that any big name studio will actually be able to pull anything like this off. they're too concerned with money and disconnected from their players to try anything this interesting and different. at best i think it would be watered down, more safe, less evocative. but this is all speculation.

The sad thing about this game...

the awesome thing about this game is the arma engine. arma is to every other fps (pretty much) as chess is to checkers.
  10. in regards to all this smart businesses and money talk: paraphrasing here, but you can find this info in the sticky somewhere... rocket doesn't care about money or fame. he's already denied the money train in the past regarding dayz and other things. that is exactly why this mod exists, because he's not concerned with money. if he was, it'd be balanced, with quests, and refined loot systems, and all the other cookie cutter things all games have these days.
  11. as i said before, it bills itself (according to the developer) as an authentic antigame experiment that invokes an emotional response from its players, with frustration being high on that list of emotions. other words that have been used by him are brutal, unbalanced, unfair, and cruel. i cannot recall any instance in which rocket has said fun was a primary concern.

I love and hate this game.

out of curiosity, why is this? what about making someone angry is a fulfilling experience to you?
  13. if you paid a dime for dayz you got completely ripped off. if you're referring to having to purchase arma 2 in order to play dayz, there's a whole campaign, multiple stand alone missions, and an extremely powerful mission editor that you paid for (and, judging by your reaction to his post, probably haven't even checked out) and is called arma 2. not to mention lots of free mods and missions available (check out armaholic sometime).
  14. on first point, i also regret that you will go against your nature. there are alternatives to succumbing to the wanton slaughter. i'll update this with some links in the hopes of you preserving your natural inclinations in game. links: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/32964-want-to-make-a-difference-in-dayz/ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/37592-join-up-with-the-abb-anti-bandit-brigade/#entry357167 there's also freeside trading co and the various medic organizations, but i have no idea if they're looking for more people or not. on the second point, lan, non hive, single player, may all come eventually, but right now they are not the focus as far as i know. i cannot speak to how difficult it would be to implement as i'm not behind the curtain, but i would caution against assuming it's easy, especially when you're trying to keep a mod you don't get paid for running when it has 200k+ players online in the last 24 hours. that alone is a full time job, let alone coding gameplay elements.
  15. in direct response to this, you have found out one of the early goals for the design of dayz: " But that's what this is, it is brutal, it is cruel. This is not fair. Maybe you will hate this game. Maybe you already do. It is an unforgiving environment with no structure. It is up to you to decide what to do next." http://dayzmod.com/f...__440#entry6898 and that's why it's gotten so much attention. this is why so many people have been impacted by it. this is why so many people play it even in its unpolished and glitchy state. because death comes swiftly, easily, and frequently. every second you stave it off is fantastic. i regret that you were unaware of this before you started playing, and instead expected more of an mmo coop type zombie game. authentic antigame experiment designed to invoke emotions in players (with frustration high on the list), not simulator.
  16. "You are the inhabitants of the world. I am the architect. You guys are going to decide how this world plays out. Don't compare this to other games and look for different balancing mechanics. This is an attempt at something different, it is an experiment. There is no balance, other than the balance you will put in. I will put in the features required for you to either destroy this world into mindless PVP, or create something else. Don't look to me for that balance, because I will not give you it. We started this in a particular way, we're going to finish in that way." http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3141-banditsurvivor-morphing-to-be-removed/page__st__160#entry32219
  17. because the initial design goal for this experiment was to avoid balance, fairness, and judgment/punishment. to be ruthless and frustrating. all the things that the modern gaming industry has added to every game they put out turning things into this stagnant boring mess. to have players be the primary threat to survival. for rocket to be an architect, and then to have us determine whether the game turned into nothing but rampant player killing or not. not for people to bitch about getting killed by players and demand that some sort of hard coded rules were put into the game to make everyone safe. essentially people say this because the experience the complainers are looking for is in so many other games out there already. this was designed to do something different, not fall into the same crap every major dev company puts out these days. if you dislike the pvp, do something about it, don't look to the developers for your solutions.
  18. trying to get people away from the usual, comfortable, safe and unchanging format that all games have fallen into over the years really is like trying to wean people off of heroin. instead of complaining about the rampant pvp, players should do something to fight it. here's a relevant quote regarding this topic since it's been discussed to death here: "The bad guys are doing way fucking better at this game than the good guys. Because the good guys keep coming on the forums to post how the bad guys win." http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6487-wtf-is-happening-to-the-server-community/page__st__40#entry67159 one guy has tried to initiate a police force, not sure how it's going but here's the link for those of you who want to actually keep in the spirit of the game and allow the players to shape the world in game instead of relying on EA/Blizzard style balancing: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/37328-rocket-said-its-up-to-the-players-to-do-something-about-bandits/#entry354755

absolutely goes against everything dayz is meant to be right now. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3141-banditsurvivor-morphing-to-be-removed/page__st__160#entry32219 http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6487-wtf-is-happening-to-the-server-community/page__st__20#entry67105 http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6487-wtf-is-happening-to-the-server-community/page__st__80#entry67314 http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6487-wtf-is-happening-to-the-server-community/page__st__40#entry67159 http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6487-wtf-is-happening-to-the-server-community/page__st__20#entry67114 http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3141-banditsurvivor-morphing-to-be-removed/page__st__220#entry32543

Well I just uninstall this POS

threads like this are bandits seeing people rage and cry at their actions, so they do technically get to hear people rage and cry. i would suggest joining up with a team dedicated to trying to act as police in dayz, such as : http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/37592-join-up-with-the-abb-anti-bandit-brigade/page__hl__%2Banti+%2Bbandit+%2Bbrigade otherwise i wish you all the best in your future endeavors. i would respectfully disagree with this. there's other things to do if you decide to do them. freeside trading and the medics are proof of this. it's up to the players to make their own objectives, not the developers.

    Breaking Point <.<

berezino isn't the safest place necessarily. safer than cherno and elektro sure, but a hospital, the apartments, and two grocery stores give it serious loot appeal. if you want to up your chances of survival, you're going to have to spend a good deal of time travelling, often taking circuitous routes if you want to maintain stealth. otherwise if you stick to the coast, you gotta get used to and accept dying. a lot.

    Breaking Point <.<

when i first started out, i would do what i'd do in real life in a situation like this - follow civil features like roads and power lines to other cities and towns. my life expectancy probably wasn't the best then, i can't recall at this point. the alternative is to use an online map like http://dayzdb.com/map to aid in your looting.

Why are people against the idea of NPC guards?

this is essentially my feeling on this. plus as others have pointed out, the npc guards would just get killed from a distance and there would be no safe zone. the developers forcing structure on the players is pretty much the opposite of what this was designed to be: are players too used to structure, tasks, rules and stories being shoved down their throats that they can't handle it when these things aren't? http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/520-the-pvp-discussion-thread/page__st__440#entry6898
