  1. umm... what? well i guess to respond to this post even though it does not address my question to you in the least... there used to be a "rocket said" thread that compiled a bunch of quotes by him, and if i recall correctly one of those quotes was him saying that he was eventually going to standardize the difficulty across all servers to get rid of the vet, expert, etc variations. my post was specifically addressing your accusation that someone making a free mod in their spare time would be stupid for developing it with an "I make this the way I enjoy it. Nobody is forcing you to play it." mentality and design goal. thanks for calling me a tool though, it adds a lot to any reasoned debate or discussion. and again, read the interviews, it's not being developed as a game so much as an experiment to invoke emotions in players.
  2. i would like to interject here that day z is not a game, it is an experiment designed to invoke emotions in the players. to that end, i think this thread, and most threads on the forums for that matter, prove that rocket has been extremely successful in his goal. a lot of people would be very well served by reading some of the interviews rocket has given, especially before purchasing arma 2 for the day z alpha mod. here's a couple links to interviews: http://gamersushi.com/2012/05/10/emergent-gameplay-and-persistent-worlds-the-day-z-interview/ http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/05/16/an-interview-with-rocket-creator-of-day-z/ http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rocket also, i'm still waiting to hear from daish as to why the "I make this the way I enjoy it. Nobody is forcing you to play it." mentality and design goal is "stupid".
  3. You could put glue on your tape but you'd still have to pick tape or glue im afraid. Tapes use a pressure sensitive adhesive which differs from glues in that the bond is formed by applying pressure to the surface of the tape. Although that does raise the question as to which is stuck to which. gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. are you sure duct is adhesive and not glue though? it's pretty sticky without pressure.
  4. krazy glue is good for sealing wounds, but you know the old saying, if you can't duct it...
  5. is the tape in question duct tape? cause if so, i gotta go with duct tape.
  6. why exactly is this mentality or game design goal stupid?
  7. to me' date=' communication and being able to communicate is an important commodity in game. having the option or ability to global chat makes it less scarce, less significant, and less valuable. you asserting that it should be available, even as an option, is just as talibanish as my saying it shouldn't be there. it's not a particularly constructive element to this discussion to label others of differing opinions as taliban, even if in playful jest. [/quote'] Lol, it's talibanish of me to suggest middle ground? Joking aside, however. I think it's kind of a disingenuous argument to claim communication is a commodity in game, when it is 100% acceptable to use out-of-game programs for communication, bypassing any and all in-game need for communication. It's a commodity or it isn't. If it's a commodity, it must be regulated somehow. Having it be a commodity, but turning a blind eye to the abuse of that commodity isn't exactly solving the problem. You can't have it both ways, while at the same time alienating with a poor excuse, one particular sub-sect of that communication... That presents only a rigged system. voice chat is usually premeditated by groups of players who know each other. consider it as though it's a group of people in real life who were able to get walkie talkies in anticipation of the apocalypse, realizing how important communication is. plus their voice chat servers do not broadcast/obfuscate the whole game servers chat, whereas side/global does.

[/quote'] Lol, it's talibanish of me to suggest middle ground? to me, it's not middle ground at all. you reintroduce side chat, everyone will be using it again. people will visually look for blue text for chat and ignore other colored messages in the lower left.. anyone with side chat enabled might not see your direct chat messages because there's fast spammish chat of people discussing the latest movie in side chat, swearing at bandits etc. you are not looking at it from my perspective at all, and are not getting the final point of my message: taliban accusations are not constructive. if there's server wide chat, it's less scarce, it's less valuable.

  10. you can throw them, and they do distract zombies. i've used this multiple times since they've gotten rid of starting weapons to keep me alive and allow me to get loot.
  11. game purchase only studio developed studio servers (preferably, but with game purchase only community servers would be better for the studio money wise)
  12. i very much like side/global/etc chat being removed and having to use direct chat. this mod is amazing exactly because of things like that. not being able to chat globally and only locally makes player encounters in which you do finally come across someone that much more valuable/unique/evocative (provided they don't blow your head off).
