  1. They were untouched for arround 4 hours. Had the same thing with another packpack earlier this week. This one was empty so I thought it might be dissapeared cause of the normal cleanup.

Hmm, I have had improvised backpacks, Taloon and Sposn on the ground untouched for 10 hours or more and they were still there. Are you sure they are well hidden? I mean far enough in the tree or wherever that they can't be seen by someone running by? I have one empty improvised on the ground as well, don't think it should matter if it has items in it?

Your spot may be compromised, might want to scout out a new camp...

  2. How is it that Dayz knows exactly what you are looking for, and makes it ridiculously hard to find, and then when you are not looking for it, it's all over the place (almost). The other day I was finding lock picks galore and now that I want one... nada.

Although, looking for lock picks and found a pristine hunter backpack, so I guess it's not so bad  :D

  3. Can you tell me, whether improvised backpacks are peristent or not? Due to the lack of other backpacks on my server I used them to build up a little camp, containing two improvised backpacks.

First I thought, that the camp was simply raided by other players but the backpacks are completely gone and I don't think thaht players would take the backpacks with them. (Camp at the far north, didn't see any newbies arround there since 0.58). The Server does not look like there was a peristence wipe today.

Can you say sth. about it or maybe test it on your own? Don't want to write sth. at the bug-tracker as long as I am not sure about it.

How long were they on the ground without interaction? I have quite a few improvised backpacks and as far as I can tell they are all still there, but I mess with them every day or so. Sounds like with the new exp build backpacks and guns on ground clean up a lot faster. Gonna have to prioritize my barrel inventories. Probably start using a few more tents as well. Wish the civilian tent wasn't so attention grabbing. A small military camo pup tent would be nice as well, like the ones in tent cities that are just for show.

  4. Personally I'd like to see wolves - big ones that are fast and quiet and leave a pile of human bones and steak at the kill site - we'll see those camps start freeing up their loot pretty quick I think.   :D   It would be humorous to see people try to get back to the camps in deep woods after being mauled to death only to be killed again by a wolf :)

Wolf packs - large mean Siberian type wolves would be awesome. But if we have to deal with them, we should be able to skin and quarter them, and end up with meat and a nice fur wolf pelt we can make into coats, hats, etc.

  5. Update it's not even in experimental yet, mate and this is not something that they can change without an update.

Hmm, so maybe all the unpacking ammo and seeds, moving mags out of barrels and backpacks and moving shit around did it then. Although it didn't seem like it. After I logged out of Dayz completely and it synced on my computer I logged back in and the lag was gone. Whatever it was, I'm just glad my camp is functional again. Gonna make a big bonfire and drink some peach moonshine.  :P

  6. Looks like the hotfix was applied to stable branch as well. I now have zero lag in my camp, and can move the trucks around with no problem.  :)

Correction: I have a small amount of lag still, but I can now move the two trucks that have been stuck in my camp. Barrel lids still not showing open or closed properly. Have to check on other things but I'm pretty happy I can now move the trucks!

  7. I too just had an odd instance of lag coming up to one of my sites. One thing I did have on me in my improvised backpack was two canteens full of water. Never noticed an issue before with water in canteens, but I will also this some more. Overall though, I am able to function at all my sites and I can live with this until the hotfix comes out.

Let's just hope they figured all of it out b/c there still seems to be some random lag at camps.

Do you have canned food and sodas in backpacks or barrels? I wonder how far down the rabbit hole we have to go. Ammo boxes, packets of seeds, canned food, canteens/water bottles, sodas, all are basically containers right? I moved all my loaded mags out of barrels and backpacks and am now unpacking ammo boxes.

  8. So containers with items in them, inside of other containers seems to be the culprit. I wonder if full mags in containers is also causing lag. Because I have removed all full containers in containers, except loaded mags in barrels and backpacks and I still have lag and sessions lost. Gonna try moving loaded mags out of camp next and see if that helps. Or maybe just drop them on the ground in camp first and see if it makes a difference.

  9. There is a town not far away with houses scattered about. No lag what so ever.

I also did a bit more testing with vehicles. A truck by itself with no items in storage; no issues / no lag near the camp site.

I tried it with a barrel in the truck's storage..........ANNNNNNDDDD LAG.  Nothing else in the truck storage; just a green barrel. Drove far away from the camp site, removed the barrel, drove back and lag again was gone.

Interesting. I hadn't cleaned out my camp of all containers in backpacks... no containers in containers but had a pot, pan and full ammo can in different backpacks spread around, 3 full barrels 1 empty barrel and some guns on the ground and lag was so so. Barrels opening or closing had lag. Didn't really want to spread my stuff out 500+ meters away, as I already got squirrely with one of my packs and it took me forever to find again. So against that backdrop I unwisely drove a truck into camp. Major lag again. Nothing in truck cargo, just camp stuff nearby. Read about shooting the tires out so it slides downhill, except I have a whole bunch of trees in the way of downhill so I thought I would try and push it out of camp with another truck. Now I have two g*dmned trucks stuck in my camp, which I have nicknamed Camp LagAlot. Sigh. Guess it's back to another server until the hotfix comes out.

  10. A tank would be fun actually its not that overpowered all you have to do is get some sachtel charges sneak up behind it and out on it and boom.

That would work but let's get some Javelin missile systems spawning at NATO heli crashes. Add a little pizzazz to the game! While we're at it, once base building and barricading is in let's have some AT4-CS in game as well. Heck I'd even settle for RPG's.

  11. snip

I played private and public hive and the private seemed to be a little less looted - but it was also less populated.

The private hive I spend the most time on seems to have a decent amount of loot. Probably only about 2-4 people on at one time max, out of about 10 people I've seen on the player list. When my camp was frozen up I went to another private with 20+ other players on at the time and holy crap, I was finding way more loot. Must have to do with more people picking up stuff all over the map, thus spawning more stuff all over the map. Went back to my normal server, got my camp working again and the difference in loot is very noticeable. Although, I'm geared up enough and with enough seeds, gardening stuff, rabbit snares, fish hooks, etc. that I don't really ever need to go into a town again. Until the next wipe that is.

Kind of at loose ends as to want to do now. Think maybe I will start hunting for the elusive boar, so I can make a leather improvised backpack.

  12. Did you actually somewhat manage to stack your backpack full of layers of clothes? heard it still somehow works.

I think containers in containers might be an issue, and possibly items in containers. Had deer steaks in a frying pan in a frying pan, and Cmags in a pot. Took everything out of containers and got control of my toon back. Went from 1 fps to average of 15fps. No problem moving or interacting. Got back to my camp, froze and lost session again. Gonna see what other containers I have with items in them, or at least containers in containers. Maybe try and move that tire out of camp as well.

  13. Did you actually somewhat manage to stack your backpack full of layers of clothes? heard it still somehow works.

No stacked clothes, or clothes with items inside. Going to log back on to that toon and see if I have any containers in my backpack and if so, if getting rid of them helps.

  14. Well I finally got my camp more or less manageable, lag not horribly bad with 3 barrels, some backpacks and guns on the ground, and other stuff stashed about 300 meters away.

Then I tried to bring a truck into camp. Didn't even make it in to camp, truck rolled over on a hill nearby. Took a wheel to stash as a spare (incurable horder disorder), got into camp, stashed the wheel in a tree and that's when all lag hell broke loose. 1 fps, frozen screen, Sessions lost, relog and stuck at Please Wait screen, relog and got 1-6 fps, toon frozen, then running, then frozen. Appeared that while I am seeing toon as frozen, the game is still registering him as running, as when he finally breaks free from lag again he is often 200 meters away or more. I was frozen in a forest, then after lag stopped was down by a road and some houses.

Truck was probably about 250 meters from camp. Wheel dropped right in camp. Private server which is still restarting every couple of hours. Hopefully the truck is upright again and I can move it away, if somebody else hasn't already. The wheel in camp was definitely not a good idea, hopefully I can move that, or even better would be the devs issuing a hotfix on Wed.

  15. Also hope they sort out cooked meat and fish making you sick. Have a ton of steak to throw on the BBQ but don't really want to get sick. Have charcoal tabs though so I probably will anyway just to have something to do.

Speaking of which seems like we should be able to make our own charcoal for use in fires or when sick. I'm sure everyone on here, including the devs have burned wood fires at some point, and ended up with leftover charcoal bits, right?

  16. Two barrels and a few backpacks seems to be the key to less camp lag. After I cleared out all backpacks that had containers, and moved a few guns from the ground my first two barrels functioned pretty well. After adding a third barrel (even empty) it seemed to induce lag again. Main thing is barrel lids not showing open or closed icon (barrel open, close it and it still looks open, but menu gives option to open). filled third barrel up no issues other than that. Leaving area to tend garden 500 meters away and upon return barrel lids show proper state. Have not Lost session again yet.

Hopefully they will sort out whatever is causing the issue. I like having a metric ton of stuff in one place.

  17. Holy smokes, camp got ridiculously bad lag, almost couldn't clean it out, kept getting Session lost. Finally moved enough improvised backpacks, one SPOSN and a few weapons on the ground far enough away from camp that I can now access the barrels without lag. Was feeling pretty happy with that achievement.... and then got Session lost again, while far from camp.  :(

This is really cramping my hording style. Also, I can't find one of the first improvised backpacks I moved, before I settled on another cluster of trees. Doh!

  18. Do that please, you know how DayZ is and unless several people try the same thing several times...

My camp is still laggy as hell but I only moved the improvised backpacks (with containers) to nearby trees. Guess I'll have to drag them a good several hundred meters away to know for sure. Damn Dayz is not letting me be Lazy!

  19. What you're saying about camp lag is reflecting what I'm seeing, containers in containers might be the problem. My first camp, decent sized now 2 full barrels, 2 full taloon packs and a protective case was fine even with a truck in the vicinity. My small test camp 2 child's brief cases and an improvised bag stopped acting up when I removed the fireplace containing a first aid kit from one of the bags and separated them.

Have to check that when I get back to camp. Think I had containers (pots and pans) in the improvised backpacks. Good catch if that's the culprit!  :beans:
