I've searched alot on the internet and haven't found a straight answer, so what's better, DayZ Mod or Standalone?

I find alot of "Dayz Epoch" servers, what are those? When I try to join one it says that I have missing or deleted files.

I looked at them both on steam, the comments on the Standalone were all negative. While the mod was so recommended.
