Please think about how you would confirm a kill IRL and then think about how the debug monitor relates to that. Then go ahead and delete your post... <_< -

Yes it is forbidden to play music while playing DayZ. Rocket himself will enforce it by flicking your ears everytime you do it. Of coourse you are allowed to do it, you just have to deal with the consequences. And please don't whine later about it here in the forums when you didn't hear the zombie or bandit behind you... -

Oh my god this forum is full of so many whiners. Considering the "I don't know how many blood I have" QQ: You don't know how many blood is in your body right now, do you? Sure an average number is out there but when you hurt yourself you won't be able to say: "I just list 2,343 litres of my blood." You would just feel bad and might lose concious. And that is what happens in the game. When you see that you are not at full colour anymore just eat until it does not get better. And if there is a sniper with a .50cal waiting at the NWAF for you; there is no difference what so ever if you have 10k or 12k. A shot to the body will either kill you instantly or knock you unconscious so the bandit can take the kill shot. No difference there. The "I can't keep track of my kills"-QQ: First of all, if you want just to keep track of your kills use a notepad IN REAL LIFE. That is how I mark things on the map, writing down the coordinates on a little piece of paper. Sometimes i sketch the grid square to not lose vehicles. So do that if you want. There is no need to implement a notepad in the game. And there is no reason this game should give you an indicator if you succesfully killed a guy. It doesn't happen in real life. If you want to know, go ahead and look for the dead body. If you are a bandit and you kill for supplies, that is the risk you have to take. Rocket said that he wants to go away from all those HUD things. If you are cold, you will move slower or shake. If you are sick, you cough. If you are hungry your stomach will have a growling stomach. So deal with these changes. -
Do vehicles disappear with server restarts?
flint (DayZ) replied to Shard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Same here. Tents are most of the time ok. Sometimes items are still there although we took them earlier, others are missing. But I experience the same thing you discripted with cars. And yes, it is sooo frustrating to fix cars over and over again. In fact, this is the reason why I don't play DayZ at the moment, because there is nothing else to do than fixing cars and set up camps... :( -

Do you listen to music while you play?
flint (DayZ) replied to chris p. bacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dayz is one of the few games (maybe even the only one) where I dont listen to music playing it. Hearing is just so important, maybe even more important than seeing, that you cant afford to be distracted. -
Hi guys. I need your opinion/experience on this. Currently I am playing on DE 1303 most of the times. Me and some other guys managed to find and repair a couple of vehicles such as ATVs, Hatchbacks, Dirtbikes, Urals and even a Chopper. But whenever the server restarts (which is at least twice a day), all of those vehicles are gone and found later at their spawn points, complety damaged just as they were freshly spawned. Others are turned into other vehicles and at different locations. (Hatchback turned into a Pickup). Of course we save the vehicles when we go off and in between a couple of times. So my question to you: Is this normal? Is there anything you can do about it other than changing the server? And is there a server you can recomment where this doesn't happen (preferbly a DE server or at least European)? Thanks in advance.

The server is beeing hacked right now. A guy named "[TWOD] Ben" is killing all the players consecutively. A buddy is recording it right now. Maybe we can get the footage up later.
-
You did the right thing. Hacking shouldn't be promoted. Although you wouldn't be banned taking the soldiers clothing, you would be having an advantage because of hacking. So you more or less support hacking, even if in a passive way.

afaik it is backwards compatible.

The Rainbow The last two days were the most terrifying of my life. I saw things that I have never seen before and did things I never could have imagined I could do. I was washed up on shore near a big city. I did not know where I was or how I got there. But I knew I was in trouble. After walking up a little hill I knew why. People were walking around in the streets, backyards and around the houses of this city. But not like I was used to. They were stumbling around, walking without a place to go to. Moaning, screaming! They looked dead to me. Far from any usual human behavior. But I see a place to go to. All the way behind the city is what appears to be a huge tower with windows in it. Although I'm not especially familiar with these things, I see some sort of a switchyard next to it. Without much thinking I make my way up to it, making sure to attract one of those...things. As I enter the tower building I am just astonished and relieved at the same time. There is stuff on the ground. Usefull stuff. I get my hands onto some canned food and drinks, flares, an axe and the best of all...a revolver with some ammo. As I climb up the stairs in the tower I realize I must be in a firestation. There are hoses haning down from the roof of the tower, all the way to the bottom. I freeze as I hear footsteps. They are slow but steady, comming up the stairs. I pull out the revolver I just found. The weapon is heavy and feels unfamiliar in my hands. I still can't quite recall what happened next. I started shooting at a man who came up the stairs. I don't know why. I paniced. Maybe it was the barrel of a rifle pointing at my face or the thought that this could be one of those things I saw earlier on the streets. Next thing I know is that I am lying on the floor of the firestation, bleeding. My ears are ringing, my vision is blurry and my whole body just hurts like hell. As I look down I see my left leg beeing heavily injured. Not having anything to bandage myself with, I start searching for something useful on the dead mans body. I find a bandage and patch myself up as good as I can. After that, I just grap all the things I can from the dead body and start running. Up another big hill, through woods and past fields. I run for at least one hour when I fall unconscious. It must have been a long sleep for me because when I woke up, the sun was already up. I slept at least 8 hours. Totally exhausted from the events yesterday. Still, I had to go on. My breakfast wasn't the best, but still better than nothing. I started walking. Now I am sitting here, under a big pine tree. It just started raining. I am frustrated. I didn't eat much. My leg still hurts and I think I am pretty much deaf on my left ear. I saw more of those monsters on my way up here. Still don't know where they come from. I think back to my family and friends, wondering what happened to them and if I will ever see them again. I wonder if this man I killed had family. Maybe children? Or a wife? What have I done? I doubt myself. Can I go any further? Can I stay alive? Will I meet other people? And how will I react then? Suddenly the clouds break and the sun is comming out, just a little bit to paint this wonderful rainbow in the sky. For me it is a sign of hope. I swallow my last bite of the caned noodles, pack my things and start walking. Although my body is still sore and my leg still hurts...I am confident. I see the rainbow.

I haven't tried it out ingame nor did i do the math yet. I just said I like the general idea. As Daddy'o said. It's nonsense that you can kill zombies with one shot to the body. Needing 14 rounds (if that is correct) to kill a player might be a bit much, though. I agree with that. And it is not about with what I want the be killed. It is about how I want to be encountered with other players. If I get killed by a sniper, well then he had a good postion or I was not careful enough. But when I run into another player in appartment building I wouldn't want to shoot him right away because I have to fear that he is going to kill me in one or two shots. I'd rather have the possibility to shoot back or run IF he starts to shoot at me. I hope you see my point.

I kinda agree with that and think that nerfing the weapons is not a bad thing in general. Lets face it. Zombies are not a real danger in DayZ unless you do something very stupid or have bad luck. Otherwise you lure them into buildings and shoot them. Why? Because you can do it, because you have the ammo. It is not that hard to find enough ammo to fight 50+ zombies. At least for the common handguns, shotguns and rifles. I think it is a good idea that you have to think twice about using your ammo, because ammo would be one of the hardest things to find in an apocalyptic scenario. It would make the game harder and would make zombies more of a threat. Secondly, I think it makes player interaction more passive. My reason to shoot on sight is not because for the fun or because I need the gear. Most of the times it is because I know that if the other player shoots I'm dead in 2-3 rounds max, having no chance to escape or fight back. With this weapon nerf this thread is taken away so now I can approach other players more trustfully.

Call me Day Z (music parody)

pretty fun video! :D -
My idea is to implement another status to your character...lets call it "morale". Morale works like hunger and thirst and has to put up from time to time. Things that could influence morale: positve: + special goods like: chocolate, cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, fruits, soap, etc. (should be rare though) + having players around you who don't shoot at you + beeing in non zombie infested areas + beeing near a fire negative: - beeing surrounded by zombies - beeing shot at (even without hitting) - beeing yellow on hunger/thirst - getting hurt - walking/running for a long time - just beeing in a zombie apocalypse (so morale should sink everytime) - killing a player for the first couple of times time (idea from Serpent10i) So the system should be similiar to the body temperature system, Lowering/raising morale under certain circumstances. Please vote and let me see what you think of it. I don't know how one would do the numbers on this, but the idea of having HUMAN needs in the game would be pretty cool imo. Another point is that it would make this game more difficult because you have to get more stuff now and maybe have to decide what items you do carry (soap or bloodbag). Plus you have more goals to aim for. EDIT 1: To concern the "bandits will shoot you for your soap/sweets" arguement. Bandits will shoot you anyways. They don't know what you have. They will shoot you and then look what you have. The more I think about it the idea is great for bandits too. They might have to put themselves more in danger for the need of "feel good items". But as listed above, those items shouldn't be the only way to raise moral.

Arma crashes after downgrading to beta 94876
flint (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hi guys, this is my problem: I tried to join servers earlier when I always got stuck on the "Wait for Host" message right after joining. So I checked the forums and one guy said i had to downgrade my beta patch to 94876 (I had 94945 before). I did that and I'm sure I did it correctly. When I am trying to join a server now, I get into the lobby, press OK and after some loading my ARMA II crashes. I just get the message from Windows that ARMA II isn't working anymore... Any suggestions? EDIT: My friend did the same and he has the same error. We both deleted the "beta" folder before installing beta patch 94876.
