Another Hive Wipe for 0.59...? If so why?

How many more ways to say it? -
Trying to squeeze a few more fps - cpu upgrade?
jefc_uk replied to jefc_uk's topic in Technology/Programming
I was just using the charts - I haven't run any benchmarks on my own system. I note that you were ok on 3.4ghz. I think I'm going to try that since it's halfway between 3 and 3.8 and maybe I won't get the BSODs. I'm not bothered about fatiguing my CPU as I'm thinking of upgrading in the next 12 months anyway. Thanks for yout input. -

I just couldn't get on with newui, but thanks for the suggestion. I am happy with ~30fps on average and no BSODs at 3ghz in the last couple of hours. You're not entirely save to say I am making a lot of typos, though it would be safe to say I was a little bit unclear in my original post. 3,734 referred to a benchmark from the cited website. -
Trying to squeeze a few more fps - cpu upgrade?

Ok, so CPU cycles seems to be the answer. I overclocked to 3.8ghz and got lovely fps around 40-45, dropping to 20 at times. But.... I also got a couple of BSODs, despite CPU temperature being ok, peaking at around 85. Now am clocked at 3ghz which gives a fairly steady 30fps which I can handle. One thing - could my overclocking be causing rubber banding type effects? I'll be running along and suddenly my character will be transported back to where he was a few moments earlier. I'd call it rubber banding, others might call it desync I guess. I've always got a bit of that, but it seems worse now. Might just be the latest build (on 0.59). -

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully the new renderer will arrive and solve all my problems before I get a chance to try any overclocking. Hm. Maybe. -
Try heading to Severograd. I always seem to run into a decent supply of infected persons there in 0.59. Hardly see them elsewhere (though I avoid coastal cities).

Haven't overclocked my CPU at all. Tried overclocking my GPU (referred to in different thread) but didn't make any difference, which now makes sense. You've made me realise though that I should try overclocking my CPU. Thanks! I hadn't even thought of that. I think the i5-750 is pretty good for overclocking though my cooling is nothing fancy... I'll give it a try though. Would love to stay over 20fps. -

I get like 10-15fps in villages, towns and cities. It regularly drops below 10... Gotta be my CPU bottlenecking. Point taken about the 6 year old CPU though. -
I've read elsewhere that DayZ doesn't use GPU much, so rather than upgrading my 2GB GTX 760 I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU. I currently have an i5-750 which https://www.cpubenchmark.nethas at 3,734 Thinking of an i7-870 which can be had for about £100 and is benchmarked at 5,476 Anyone willing to hazard a guess at how much impact this would have on my fps? Should I get nmore RAM? I have 16gb.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
jefc_uk replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I played 3PP servers up until last night when they did the whole 1PP only thing, so I had a crack at pure 1PP and I have to say - it was way better (in my opinion). Put as simply as possible: it's more realistic (immersive, if you will). So why did I play 3PP before? Well, I'm a casual player and there are way more 3PP servers, in general (especially public ones on stable). So I just gravitated that way so I could get in to a well populated server easily. At first, I hardly used 3PP as 1PP just felt right and 3PP felt... silly / superfluous. As time went on I got more into the game and read on forums about peeking over walls etc, also watched Youtube videos and so started using 3PP to try to get killed less (I'm not normally a KOS guy, but happy to get into a ruckus). Basically - I followed the crowd. Many of the best experiences in life are borne of constraints (music production before digital, free-running, certain low budget films, certain art created under oppressive regimes, etc etc). In the context of computer games - part of the developers job is to artifically create and enforce those constraints (same with other software in some ways I guess) for the benefit of their customers. Lots of people would have M4s spawn all over the place, doesn't mean it's a good idea. I'm losing my train of thought. Maybe mods are the place for 3PP. TL:DR; would have been best if 3PP never existed then we'd all never have tasted the forbidden fruit. -
Anyone know if there is an issue with getting 'healthy' status? Or is it just me misunderstanding? Had a run in with some infected persons and now everything is grey. I've got dark green hydration and hungry status, but if I drink and eat just a little more it goes to 'stuffed' instead of light green hungry and hydrated with 'healthy'. As I understand it, I need 'healthy' to be able to regenerate blood.

This one? http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus They're the green dots, I think.

I tried a bunch of them too (assuming a feed shack is the little hut with the little ladder at 45 degree angle going up to it). I will continue to try both when I need to.

You could always try my method: Check about 30 hunting stands, even try a little loot cycling in the north and then feel soulless and regreftul. Find a nice pristine PU scope though, so head to NWAF to find an SKS but get shot at nearby and chased a long way. Then get caught up with and have two nice guys (German, I think) apologise profusely (they thought I had my weapon unhosltered - I didn't) and offer food and water, to which I said "How about a hunting scope", and they gave me a hunting scope! My Blaze is complete. I actually saw one of the two guys before they saw me (I think) but I thought they were a 'standing up dead person'. They were really friendly and said I should be more watchful and there was someone shooting at them at the NWAF and did I want to help. I was too worried about losing my new hunting scope (want to practise first - never had one) so off I went. Such a nice change not to be KOS'd (even if they did try). Thanks for the scope! This was on UK exp 05 I think.
