  1. Rocket himself has said that the main problem is people spamming enter to get into servers. Which isn't going to change anytime soon, since at peak times that's pretty much the only way to make it into a server (not to mention needing to get in for server-side assets like tents and vehicles), so really the only way the waiting for server response issue will get fixed is by the mod getting a lot more servers for people to spread out on.
  2. I saw it, and I disagree with aspects of it, specifically the lack of structure and balance. By virtue of it being a game, the rules of the game will inherently affect structure and balance, so he can't cop himself out of changing it by saying he wants to be hands-off. Not doing is the same as doing. He's the developer of the game, he's not hands-off, he just chooses a certain level of manipulation of the gameplay. By removing this feature you consider unrealistic he's just trading it for a different kind of unrealism. Yeah, eventually. Like really slowly, and he could just server hop anyways. And how is that realistic? In real life people don't respawn to tell their friends who shot them to death. And this is all assuming the murderers are outnumbered by people who haven't figured out that murder has almost no disincentive yet. If everyone's killing each other on sight, who cares about getting "outed" as someone who kills on sight?
  3. No, it's not, because it's a game. It will always have certain limitations that keep it from being completely realistic, and it's not unreasonable to have certain features in place that counterbalance these limitations. The bandit system was far from perfect, but it was better to have something like it rather than have zero incentive to not wantonly murder, because that's not realistic either.
  4. So, to clarify, there is now literally no downside to just murdering everyone you come across?

    US7 Down

What the hell happened? It's been down for over a day. We have stuff in a tent we need to get out of there since the guy who put it down died. Anyone know why it isn't back up yet?

    US7 Down

Okay, it was back up, but nobody could get in, and now it's down again. Does anyone know who operates US7?

    Tents & Vehicles General

Wait, so do weapons/packs take up the general item slots or are they separate? Because I could swear that mine had several less available slots when I put a rifle in. If so, how much do they take up?
  8. I completely disagree Slav. The game is still in alpha; it doesn't need this kind of attention now. The servers can't handle it. It's hard enough as it is to get into a working one. At this rate people could be getting sick of the game and forgetting it before it's even in beta. That kind of reputation could hurt it if it ever goes to a standalone game.
  9. I thought that was against the rules? Is there a reason for this?

    Tents & Vehicles General

Really don't think I like the idea of tents being completely doomed after you die. They're rare enough as it is, and often groups share use of them, so it's kind of irritating that when the one guy in your group who sets up the tent dies, your whole group is screwed. Really I'd like to see them at least spawn more frequently; I mean they're just tents. Surely they can't be that hard to come by.

    Trading post creation

People saying they don't want any artificial restrictions to enforce things like this are forgetting that there are already plenty of artificial factors in play simply by nature of this game being a game. Banditry is more appealing because there's no aversion to killing an artificial person. Taking risks like attacking a player-guarded trading post is nothing because you can just respawn if you fail. The degree of sentry shifts that would be necessary to guard a post in real life is impossible here because there's no way anyone playing a game for fun would want to do something so time consuming and boring. I don't know if pvp-free zones are the answer or not, or AI guards, but I do think it's pretty silly when I see you guys defending a level of realism in this game that frankly doesn't exist. Remember people, it's a game, not the matrix. It can only get so close to reality.

    MERGED: Everything about DOGS

Guys, come on. There's no problem with bandits being in game, but there is a bit of a balance problem. Right now there's basically no practical reason not to be a bandit. Quit acting like any attempt to balance them a bit is "QQing about PVP."

    Removing Locked Servers

US9 is still passworded? So much for "testing". Thanks for getting on this, Rocket.
  14. Good lord, calm down. Someone threatens your sacred sovreignty as a server owner and you throw a hissy fit.

    DayZ Update 1.5.6

I really don't get this decision. Is this just a temporary fix for the infinite ammo bug, or do you really plan on keeping this as a feature?

    Winchester rifle is wrong!

No, I really think the Winchester is a bit too strong. The Enfield is loud as hell, making it poor for zombies. CZ is practically useless in close quarters. Crossbow might be nice if it were more powerful and if you could retrieve the bolts more consistently; the benefit of silence only goes so far. The Winchester is ridiculously powerful, abundant everywhere, is great at close and mid to long range, and is surprisingly quiet. It's also unrealistic as the 1866 is not a shotgun but a rifle chambering .44. Plus, I could be wrong, but while it's still reproduced I think it's mostly a novelty gun shot for fun or historical value, not a common self defense or hunting weapon, and especially not in Eastern Europe/Asia. I'd like to see it drastically reduced to a relatively rare weapon, and in its place increase the likelihood of finding more appropriate shotguns like the 870 and rifles like the Mosin. It would certainly boost immersion if not balance.

    Tents

Do you have to click Save 1% after putting items in the tent for it to work or what? Because we have 2 tents set up at remote locations on seperate servers, and both were empty when we checked them today, just hours after adding stuff to them.

    DayZ Update 1.5.5

So the random mass deaths shouldn't happen any more, or might those persist?

    DayZ Update 1.5.5

Okay, so, when is the "bird simulator" going to be fixed? I feel like this is about as on topic as we can be right now considering the game is unplayable.
