What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ
SniperV (DayZ) replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
Based on what I've seen so far, I don't think it has any future. The developement... it feels like we had plenty of status reports where great plans, ideas were announced, they either ended up being massively underhwelming (barricading, horticulture, cle, new persistence) or are just still work in progress that we don't get to see. Yet again, great things are announced for .60, but I don't believe it anymore. Too many disapppointments in the past. There are other concerns aswell. Supposably there are some builds that are only dedicated for internal testing. What's the point of experimental servers then? Why every single experimental patch comes without a changelog? Why not just list the new additions and let players test them? What's the point of players wasting all those extra hours on exp, trying to find out what's new? And if the SA actually is doing fine and you are confident that massive positive changes are just behind the corner, then what's the point of censoring negative posts both here and on steam forums? -
Some people are unhappy with SA, get over it. Right, lets just gather all the people that don't agree with your opinions and take away their freedom of speech.

DayZ staff/devs/Bohemia show their love.
SniperV (DayZ) replied to ☣BioHaze☣'s topic in General Discussion
How about they show us some real progress instead of love? -
Changelog?
-
Or maybe they just like PvP?

I thought that one of the greatest things about DayZ was and still is: play it the way you like. Moreover I would focus on the "fun" part. Obviously different people enjoy different things, but I'd really like the survival to be properly rewarding. I don't want to be forced into survival. I'm ok with the idea that we spawn hungry, without gear and we immidiately have to go and look for some basic items and food, but I don't think that getting from that to the point where our character is healthy and happy should be a massive challenge. There are some ways to make hunting, farming or fishing more interesting. I would definitely be more interested in farming if I could grow potatoes and then turn them into vodka, that can't be obtained in any other way. Hunting - I see quite some potential in leather crafting. What if we could craft clothing and backpacks with biggest capacity from leather? Just an alternative for people that don't want to rush into military zones to grab good clothing and backpacks.

At first I expected that SA will mostly just move the mod to the new engine and eventually maybe add some new features. I don't mind more complicated mechanics as long as they make sense and work at least decently. From my point of view the major improvements are: opening buildings, inventory system (that is still far from perfect) and that is pretty much it. They have worked on zombies and failed. Old mechanic of zombies spawning in the proximity of players was still better than empty cities and villages. Working on persistence and loot spawning was the right move, but so far it is a mess. Turn on persistence and loot spawning gets crazy with entire empty cities, yet lootsplosions in other places. New melee, to my surprise, is as bad as the old system. Medical system is just different, not more complicated. Crafting is fine. Vehicles are about 1 year behind the schedule. Hunting/fishing/farming is not far from being acceptable. One of the trully new mechanics is the equipment getting damaged. So far that system is broken as fuk. Right now it's difficult to say what future holds for DayZ. Status reports are always full of supposably brilliant new mechanics that are WIP, renderer is comming or not, nobody knows at this point. Hopefully, 0.59 will come soon and with awesome changes.

If you want more people to play 1pp, make it more attractive, don't try to force people to "like" them by removing 3pp options. The other option is to slowly make people get used to 1p perspective. Even on 3pp servers, when you aim down sight you are in 1pp. You could for example implement obligatory 1pp view when driving a vehicle (or just when you're inside one). Then throw in biplane - on 1pp servers only and people will have incentive to leave their usual 3pp and try 1pp, just to look for that plane. Carrot on a stick, not smacking someone with that stick.

It's not a bad idea, since there are no random spawn points yet. With random spawns you will have a risk of spawning in the middle of the forest, no clue where you are and no nearby buildings or zombies to kill yourself. Tbh, on full servers I'd rather spawn in the middle of the field than next to Electro, where everything is looted, all around the city are bambi snipers and few alive survivors are busy punching anything that moves.

One character per server. Would it really be bad? Server hopping is one of the main reasons why I exclusively stick to private hives. Tents, cars, loot doesn't teleport from server to server, so why can our characters do that? Just like you mentioned, loot on private hives looks much different than on public ones.

Imo, survival is just quite poor right now. Canned food is still too good to bother with anything else. You can craft improvised stone knife in the first minutes after spawn and that's all you need to open canned food. Picking apples and berries, which is one of the favourite activities of all the survival fans, is broken as fuk and I really hope that eventually it will have a different mechanic. Currently a single apple tree has infinite amount of food - so hardcore. Gardening can eventually become fun, but only if we won't have to find a special tool just for making holes in the ground. Why not use a stick and your bare hands? It will take much longer but should be possible. Same with watering plants. In theory I should be able to carry some water in my hands or just increase the spawn of empty plastic bottles ffs. They should be easy to find, right? Fishing is quite fine, but having to find or craft a fishing hook can be annoying at times. On top of that I'd like to have an option to dig for worms using a sharp stick. I don't care if it takes longer or has a smaller chance of success, it's still better than running around and looking for a hoe or similar tool. Hunting is just bad. Animal locations seem to be quite random. Just the other day I've encountered a herd of cows wandering on the starting trip of an airfield. I guess they came to eat some tasty concrete. There is no tracking and animal soundds are too quiet to be usefull. Anyway: both fishing and farming are more reliable. Why not make leather more important? How about using it to make extra pockets for your clothing? Grab some leather, sewing kit and upgrade your 4 slot pants to 6 or even more slots. Similar with jackets, vests.

Hello Just Bough The Game

Big mistake. -
New renderer would be a good start.
-
So, what is going on? 0.58 still not pushed to stable. Why is it taking so long? I haven't noticed anything impressive in the changelog so far, so why the delay?
-
Aha, good representation of how many people are actually still playing...
