I'm getting tired of tank traps and barbed wire blocking most of the loot spawns on certain servers. It's fine if you're building a base somewhere but not for this kind of exploiting.
-
It wouldn't balance PvP at all. But, I do think it would be nice for roleplaying and being able to spot friendlies from further away.
-
I just turned the 'Music' volume slider all the way down. It was killing the mood when it sounded like someone was watching 'Lord of the Rings' right behind me everytime I played. Immersion breaking. I prefer to have nothing but the sound effects in the game. Makes it far more immersive.

I like the idea. It'd be cool to see this work. I wish more people would help each other, maybe make a small tent town, trade, etc. instead of always shooting on sight.

Where did you find your Ghilie suit?
m0ntag replied to LashUberAlles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I found one and it was on a barn, in a small building. Haven't seen one since. -
@Sparks - Yes, that's what a server hopper is. I tend to just move inland, loot barns and small gas stations, and stick to the forest. Staying away from large towns has kept me pretty safe and out of reach of all the bandits and such.

Luckiest loot you've discovered?
m0ntag replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In one life, I found a compass, a silenced M9, a revolver, Winchester, Double Barrel, more ammo than I could use, and loads of food and drink. But, I bled to death because I didn't have any bandages. Oh, well. :) -
Well, there are many silenced weapons that are legit and, in the right hands, could easily kill you from a distance. The only legit ARMA II silenced sniper is the VSS Vintorez and that is not in this. But, a silenced assault rifle could easily drop someone from a distance if you knew what you were doing.

I tend to avoid them no matter what. Players, Zeds, cows, anything. I prefer to lone wolf it through the forest and make raids towards small gas stations and such every now and again. But, it's not impossible to fight them in the open. Just shoot some knees and make a few of them crawlers and use headshots. But, the point of the game is survival, not just shooting everything you see. Fighting lowers your survival chances. Proves that fighting isn't always the best option.

I'm slightly new to this game but a veteran of ARMA so bear with me. Shoot or run...shoot or run... I was walking along, minding my own business, staying the wonderful Zed-free forests when I saw a small shack by the road. Around it was a little hopper and a shambling Zed. Okay, I thought, 2 of them. I can take 2. I raised my Makarov and took aim, dropping the hopper in one shot. The shambler heard me and started sprinting in that manic zig-zag pattern that they like to use. I fired off two bullets, missed, and managed to hit his leg with a third. He fell to the ground and started crawling. I executed him with another bullet. Right as I was walking to the shack, I saw a runner stumble out of it. His pale white eyes met mine and he let loose a scream, charging at me. I stood, raised my weapon, and dropped him with one bullet to the head. Finally. I checked the shack and found a Coke can but that was it. A whole mag for a Coke can?! As I was cursing my luck, I felt this searing gash in my leg and dropped to the ground. A hopper had heard me and snuck up while I wasn't paying attention. I fired, got up, bandaged myself, and ran into the forest. That was the last time I ever tried to fight those things. After a long walk in the forest, I found a pond. I filled up the two water bottles I had with me and kept moving, only fighting one hopper. I followed the road from the treeline, only trying to loot a few things when there was no Zeds there. I ended up back near the coast, somewhere to the west. I saw a town with loads of Zeds there and, in the distance, a gas station. I snuck my way near it and went into the small building. I found a bandage, a Coke can, and a Lee Enfield mag (despite not having a Lee Enfield). There was also an axe but I couldn't seem to pick it up. As I walked out front to investigate further, I saw 5 shamblers and 3 hoppers in a 5 metre spread, walking towards me. They hadn't seen me yet. I crouched and ran into the forest. I'm sitting there as I write this. I've got food and I've got drink. Now...a weapon.

I hate to bug you but whenever I tried to download 1.7.1 from the cdn.armafiles, it would go well most of the way and then tell me that it failed and I should try a force update and check my settings. Whenever I switched to mirror.tritnaha, it gets stuck at.. "Detecting .rar files at : http://mirror.tritnaha.com/" This was after a forced update. I also tried the Worrom but that instantly gave me a failed status. I find this program extremely helpful and useful as I've been having trouble with the manual install. If you could help me out or give me a solution, that'd be great. Thanks!

I like the update but have a few suggestions. (Don't freak out, they're just ideas) 1. Instead of absolutely no weapon, maybe a Makarov that has 2 in the gun and 1 extra clip. That way, you still have a challenge but you're not entirely defenseless. I like having to look for guns but this would be a bit easier and less frustrating. 2. The zombies run a bit fast, in my opinion. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't run in that manic zig-zag pattern they seem to like. So, if they were slowed down just a tad or ran in a straight line, that'd be swell. I'm not trying to make the game dumbed down, just slightly easier at the start. Again, these are just ideas so don't start yelling. Thanks for reading. -
I like the idea of some being slower and some being faster and all getting dropped by headshots. +10

It doesn't matter what you call them. The only good Zed is a dead Zed.

The issue regarding this mod, the people who bought the game for DayZ
m0ntag replied to privatewolf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I got hooked on ARMA by the RockPaperShotgun Steam group and have played the free demo on a few servers for a while. I've been eyeing DayZ and bought it not too long ago. It was the final push to get me to buy the full game. I already loved ARMA but DayZ is the icing on the cake. I feel that if you can't wait upwards of an hour just to clear out a small village or wait for a real long time coordinating with mates, then you shouldn't be playing this game. I find it far more engaging than CoD or BF and don't think they should change a thing :)
